This movie is so epic because it's battle scenes are long, and it has great plot and actors. I get very dissapointed by other movies because of this one, it sets norm for a good movie very high and only movies that even come close from what I watched (and I watched a lot) are 300, braveheart and gladiator. Other movies from this genre are nowhere near IMO. I will rewatch this trilogy every year atleast three times (probably more) until I die. It just never gets boring :)

If anything, LOTR inspired Harry Potter and Star Wars. why? which came first as far as books go? I know Star Wars is not a book series but still, Lucas borrowed things from The Wizard of Oz and other epic fantasy tales to make the greatest space adventures that have ever been seen on a big screen. Dumbledore a huge reminder of Gandalf? hmmm I wonder why. I love all 3 epic franchises SW, HP and LOTR. However, fuck twilight and Star Trek.

@TheNobleteam07 and the fact that the 6 movies were split into to different generations not only in Special Effects but actors, and the state of mind Goerge Lucas was in because he was definitely more money hungry for 1-3. I haven't seen LOTR but I'm guessing it'll be better that doesn't mean SW sucks. I actually saw a little bit of LOTR:TKR and it was pretty cool.

@sagqe that doesn't mean it's garbage. You can only adapt a book to movie as far as the medium allows it. Having Saruman die in the Shire, hell even having the battle in the shire in the movie would've been so anticlimatic after the destruction of the ring, that it would've killed the entire movie. Even the long ending sequence was a big stretch as far as the audience's patience goes but it showed the dedication to the original and I would've been angry had the movie not ended with Sam's line
