This was one of th 1st games I got for my import PS2. I would say the Kengo series is to Samurai games as the Gran Turismo series is to racing. Definitely the most in depth of the Kengo games. Bare in mind this is nothing like Bushido Blade or even Way of the Samurai, it's much more realistic. Oh and don't let the life guages fool you either. Most of the duels are over in a flash. Definitely a good buy if you can find it amywhere.
if you can get over the low res character models and back grounds as well as the repetetive death screams and have the patients to learn the combat system then yeah, it'll be the best game you ever buy.

The heads and their 2nd's appear randomly and the 2 best ways to learn any techs are. 1: Getting hit by a tech gives a huge chance to learn it, but can be dangerous. You dont need to lose to learn it either. 2: Perfect defence, you know when you tap block at just the right time and your character steps away from the strike rather than blocking it with his sword. Its not as big a chance as being hit but it still works. To learn the hidden techs you will need to master this as most are 1 hit KO's
The govenors tournaments "should" appear at a set number of days like the Shogun tourny does. As for the Dojos you can only ever join one, you have to learn the techniques from the other 2 schools by challenging them. Sometimes the schools head instructor or just his 2nd will be present and those two are best for learning the harder "hidden" techs of that particular school.

You may need to beat him a few times.

If you defeat Jubei in the shogun tourney with out some of the kengo defeated he wil never even speak to you. I still play this game at least 3 times a year, still love it :D
Although the main reason i love Sots for its realistic gameplay, i still like "way of the samurai" 1-2 and 3 is due in OCT which should be GREAT. But i will tell ya my hope, a combination of Way and sword of the samurai, mixed with the kind of world in assassins creed, huge mutli citied maps with lots of roads. A sweet sandbox world in early japan. I wait for the day someone makes a game like that. T_T
Also, its random if yagyu jubei will even be in the tournament so save before you fight and just reload if he isnt in the line up, plus it saves you wasting however many days till the next one.
Did you ever master the battogiri stance?. it takes ages but when you master it you can draw slash stances and even strikes, my mates hate it, i will either use hydra dance to assualt the crap out of em, my defensive stance to make em feel useless and slow, or change to battogiri to make em nervous and afraid to attack or even approch me mwahaha, great damn game, i will never sell it :D

I live in Australia so im not sure if its the same, but check computer markets, computer swap meets, we also have them in local buy and sell magazines as modifications, these days it should be cheap to chip them mine cost $30. Living in the UK i imagine it would be similar, even ask around at your local games stores, some private owned shops that offer "repairs" often do them.
where do u live then? if ur in sweden then there is alot of places. plus i got that game but the first kengo is alot better. i dont know about kengo 3.

Just keep fighting the 3 dojo masters over again and you'll improve. Another way is to save after losing to some pretty good opponents in the tournament and then assign and practice their moves.

This is the only game in which they tried to recreate a real combat.
In most games, they tried to recreate cheap films childlish stuff (like in "Way of the Samurai 2").
