  • The baby example is a little flawed. Most adults wouldn't need that much protein to grow either if they matched their hormone profile to an infant. Plus, the amount of protein is determined by the weight mostly, not the percentage. My son got quite a bit of protein per day from mothers milk for his weight.

  • pause at 3:58, dude on the right got lost on his way to an AA meeting but is so drunk thinks this IS the AA meeting.

  • Sit down dude !!!

  • DOWN IN FRONT! please.

  • Powerful presentation. Definitely appreciated as I have read "I Live On Fruit". Most people don't realize that the high recommended intake of protein is due to the fact that meat is a very poor source of protein and all eight amino acids get destroyed during cooking.

  • @grandpied Where did you hear that "all eight amino acids get destroyed during cooking"? I assume you're referring to essential amino acids, not the rest. But, cooking denatures protein, but they aren't destroyed. And your body's more than capable to break those down. Like any food, bio-availability varies.

  • he looks ill

  • @RustyIronloins Seen a picture of Doug with his shirt off? He's almost 60 years old man, I want to look that ripped at 60!

  • He's conflating "fuel" with building material. Muscles are made of protein, to grow strength you need to rebuild muscle, ergo you need protein. Not as fuel, but as growth substrate.

  • Has this guy ever heard of ketosis and the pathway of burning ketones?

  • His right pinky is making me cringe.

  • thanks for the good info. i subscribed please return the favor :)

  • 7:20 so true hehehe

  • Good question, good answer.

  • Dr. Doug rocks!

  • is it possible to get ur glycogen from dried fruit (raisins etc) instead of fresh fruit?

  • why is it that raw foodist don't look much healthier than the average person? His skin looks dehydrated, and wrinkly. Am I wrong?

  • @zestrus11 You are aware that he is 64 years old?

  • @777TylerJB : He is 57.

  • @zestrus11 Yeah, I'm afraid you are wrong. My skin looks radiant and that's happened after cutting down fat to less than 10%. I look 10 years younger than most women, so I am repeatedly told... and of course I'm full of energy and never get sick...

  • @wglianimaliliberi ...me too but from cutting grains and dairy...

  • @Naanoux : Ever consider that its the grains and not the animal foods? I don't eat grains either. They aren't food for humans nor cattle. They should be grass fed.

  • @auggiedoggy .... I know ... If everyone replaced grains with veggies and fruits, pretty much all would be healthy.

  • who gives a shit whether or not protein is used as an energy source at all. If you exercise, you burn glycogen as your fuel. Yes you should replace that glycogen. But you also cause micro trauma to muscle tissue, which is repaired by the body utilising AMINO ACIDS - these are from protein.

The argument he is puting forward misses the point of consuming extra protein in order to maximise the repair of muscle and avoid muscle catabolism - something which any athlete would consider important.

  • @jrumbel

and his point about mothers milk being the primary food source that fuels the growth spurt of babies - they put on fat! mostly fat! - not muscle

  • @jrumbel : Vegans and Fruitarians always downplay the need for protein in order to support their dietary choices. They know full well that their diets are deficient.

  • @auggiedoggy LOL, you're kidding right ? Deficient? As in, deficient in cholesterol, saturated fats, mucus, toxins, refined crap, uric acid etc? Oh, right, true, we are more deficient.. thanks for reminding me :)

  • @wglianimaliliberi : Cholesterol is natural and absolutely essential to be healthy. If you were deficient you'd be dead. If you reduce your dietary intake of cholesterol your body simply increases its production of it. Your plant food also contains toxins, both natural and man made. Compare a raw foodist to a modern day hunter-gatherer. No contest! The H/G is infinitely more healthy than the RF. Enjoy your high sugar diet.

  • @auggiedoggy I'm afraid you're very misinformed. The cholesterol the body makes is the exact quantity we need. We don't need to add ANY to that, and vegans don't. So my cholesterol is perfect but it isn't "zero" ! As for the toxins plant-food contains, of course it does, but animals are fed 15 times the amount it takes me to feed myself, and then when YOU eat steak, you eat 15 times more toxins than me. So veganism wins on all accounts. As for a high sugar diet, I hope you're kidding.

  • @wglianimaliliberi : It is a high sugar diet, whether you want to admit it or not. How long have you been on this diet?

  • @auggiedoggy : Shun fruit? I eat more veggies than meat and more meat than fruit but I still eat fruit and very few grains. Fruit just forms a minor part of my diet.

  • @auggiedoggy Check out ANY table on the glycemic load and index, fruit is invariably at the bottom. The gentle spike in sugar blood is so fast that insulin is never upset, unless you eat a fat diet, then insulin gets stuck much longer and cause problems. The sugar i eat is the perfect amount and form for my body to use it perfectly. It's not vegans or fruitarians who have diabetes problems, it's omnivores eating a lot of fat.. Get your facts before you shun fruit. Fruit is heaven on Earth

  • "It's not vegans or fruitarians who have diabetes problems, it's omnivores eating a lot of fat.. Get your facts before you shun fruit. Fruit is heaven on Earth"

...it's the omnivores eating a lot of refined carbs, grains and unhealthy fats... I would say.

  • @auggiedoggy whats the medical term for Cholesterol deficiency? oh wait there isn't one.

  • @Danos138 : It must be a lonely and socially awkward life living in your shoes. I only said that to to make a point to you cholesterol and fat phobic raw food religionists. Rather than listen to what your body needs you let your dietary religion rule over common sense. Enjoy your raw rabbit food.

  • @auggiedoggy im not on this diet. you just sounded like one of those high fat diet people , goin on about cholesterol when there is no medical term for medical term for a lack of cholesterol. and i dont think a high fat diet is healthy.

  • @Danos138 : Nope, I'm not a proponent of a high fat diet. In the 60's my father had ulcers. The medical advice he received was to drink 3 glasses of full fat milk daily. He also ate steak and eggs several times per week. He was driving through the city one day in 1982 and felt chest pains. He was close to a hospital and was able to get there in time to be checked out. A day later he was recovering from a double-bypass surgery. He was 60 at the time. My diet is largely plant-based.

  • @auggiedoggy LOL, you're kidding right ? Deficient? As in, deficient in cholesterol, saturated fats, mucus, toxins, refined crap, uric acid etc? Oh, right, true, we are more deficient.. thanks for reminding me :)

  • Awesome video. Brotha could a picked a shirt that fit him tho lol

  • although i usually agree with him. i just did some math and mothers milk~: 39% carbs, 55% fat, 6% protein.

  • listen to this advice if you wanna become a huge faggot like him...

  • Doug forgot to mention that breast milk is mostly fat. Yes its low in protein, but it' predominantly fat. Breast milk is not 80 % carbohydrates, 10 % protein, and 10% fat.

  • He didn't forget; he was making a poin about PROTEIN: our fastest growing years were on 7% protein.....so.......adults don't need more percent. of calories from protein.

  • wtf is up with his pinky?

  • @Njubish gymnastics accident

  • @durianriders

    wow, never noticed that!

  • Comment removed

  • Oh god is he fucking serious??? lolololololololol

    nothing but BS

  • So tell us what specifically is BS?

  • I put in my daily intake on nutridiary and the protein kept ending up around 5-7%. I'm not sure what else I need to add to balance it to the 10%. Are there any fruits that are particularly high in protein? or do I need to up the greens to more than 3 cups a day?

  • watch the video

    PROTEIN MYTH

  • When I make green smoothies, I put in the seeds from my oranges. I always peel off the tough outer layer. Inside there is a soft white peanut looking seed. Viola, protein. I've never liked the way nuts make me feel but using the seeds of the fruit I eat is an easy way to add protein.

  • I tend to put the whole oranges in lemons in my smoothies as well.

I think I understand now how to get the 10%. If you eat enough Carbs with fruit and veggies you will natural get to the 10%.

  • Yeah! When they tell you the protein content of the fruit they assume you'll leave out the seed which is high in protein. So many fruits are being grown now that are bred to not have seed. Like naval oranges or watermelon. Bring on the seeds! LOL. I do eat closer to five cups of kale though. Love, love, love green smoothies.

  • @angelbe88

10% is the maximum protein on 80-10-10, not the number u should be aiming for.. the recommended amount is between 3-9% as Dr.D saids in the video. 5-7% is perfect! :)

  • @mckeownluke0 When is it best to eat small portions of nuts? i.e. how long before and after should you wait to consume them after eating fruits?

  • @angelbe88 you probably don't really need more than 5-7% of calories from protein if it's high quality from fruits and greens

  • I'm sorry, but he doesn't look healthy.

  • But I feel very powerful raw vegan energy inside of him.

  • watch vids by

    LIFE REGENERATOR

  • Because his hair is thinning and a little messy? LOL!

  • Mother's milk gets provides most of its calories via fat.

  • @PiedPiper97601 That mother's milk gets most of its calories from fat is not the point. This video is about protein, and that data is used to show that protein needs are exaggerated in our society and even at a point in such high growth and development protein needs by calorie are fairly minimal. Remember, mother's milk (or ANY milk) is for the animal's young, and needs at this age are way different (low-fat doesn't apply). But since most of are past that stage (lol), this advice is important.

  • @BrianonHealth I am aware of what the topic is about. However, if the good doctor uses Mother's milk as an example to make a point about protein and our needs in that regard, then I think it's fair to point out some of the other features of milk... one of them being it's high fat. I'm not recommending high fat, nor high protein diets.

  • @BrianonHealth, have you ever seen how fat a baby is?

  • Thank you! Great Video!

  • Awesome video. Thank you!
