  • Am I the only one that noticed Dean at least wore dark sox in this interview? lol.

  • book is fantastic!

  • FourSeasonRunner......shut the fuck up. How can you sit there and say he's slow as shit? I don't recall a time he ever said he was fast. You dont have to believe him, but if it makes u fell better to talk shit on some ppl's hero, then go right ahead you worthless fuck. call him up and ask him to go for a run. bet you dont last very long. his easy runs are your toughest workouts. sounds like someone has a pretty low self esteem.

  • Dean, you are slow as shit. Everything you say doesn't count because you haven't provided us with evidence of your 10 consecutive marathon runs. I claim I have run 20 consecutive marathons and if somebody doesn't believe me they can fuck off, this is what you sound like lying snail.

  • "Team Dean!"

  • Actually the soldier who died from the run from Marathon ran only 24 miles not 26.

  • Dean the "Beast"!!

  • Wow!

  • 15 DISLIKES? PROBABLY FAT PEOPLE

  • @CubanLUVash probably people who know what Dean is all about.

  • i found this guy through superhuman he is ridiculous!

  • how does he keep pizza down while running, i'm stunned

  • Comment removed

  • 10k is enough for me... hell the hardest race ive done is 800m

  • Someone should let Dean know about Yukon Arctic 430, I don't think an american has finished it yet.

  • I dont care what anyone says about DK, he is some guy and has inspired me to run 50 marathons in 56 days this year, best wishes Dean! Mark

  • DK is more about what the human body can do when it's pushed to its limits, rather than what it could of done or worry about the Kenyan having a faster marathon time or a 5k time 10k etc. Now if you can run all the runs that he has done and finish with a faster time then has in all of them by all means bash at the guy all you want. At least then you have some kind of foundation to criticise.

  • DK misses the point on recovery. Elite marathoners do 2 a year because they sprint them & try to win. They need a training program with speed sessions, not long marathon distances every day.

They race a mara at 3 min/km pace. Thats 30min/10kms, or 18 secs for every 100m for the entire 26 miles / 42km.

They finish around 2h 06m. 1 hour faster than DK. In his 50/50, his last mara was his fastest. I'm sure he could have done his 51st mara the next day but doubt he would have gone faster.

  • First of all, he probably gets the point, he just does it his own way. he's probably ran atleast one fast marathon in his life, probably a couple at great times. he should be admired for running these many marathons back to back without much rest because no one else is or has done it, on record atleast. plus he has run 100-199 mile marathons as well. once again he should be admired

  • DK trains for endurance, not speed. Elite marathoners train for speed. They pick out 1 or 2 events a yr & train to peak to win. Training like DK would increase their endurance but decrease speed, no point in that if you want to win gold. Ultras and marathoning are 2 different disciplines, they can't be compared. The results you get depend on how you train. Thats why his comment is misleading.

I enjoyed both DK's books. He is a great promoter of running. Good on him.

  • dean is, what's the word... AMAZING? can't find the word

He can literally say "I run marathons as my wake-up runs"

  • Every run is hard if it's a race.

  • First of all, Dean never puts down any lesser distances, exact opposite, he specifically says that he never meant to do that. Second of all, I have run short distances and long distances, and there is absolutely pain in both due to different intensity. However, the mental torment of the first time I ran 19 miles is still the most painful mental moment of my life, nothing I did 2 or under could compare. NOt to take away, the athleticism is different, but the pain is no comparison.

  • look at the guy, he has no body fat on his face

  • HS star Jordan Hasay would beat Dean K in any distance from 100m to marathon.

  • You train for what you want to be good at, so yeah of course i bet he could.

  • haha are you retarded?

  • Yeah, he talks too much for an interviewer.

  • This Interviewer has got skillls...

I enjoyed the book and enjoy the running.

  • One thign really anoys me and that is these guys juding intenstiy soley based on distance....There are people who would leave him behind in a 5k race. Not a lower level just a different event.

  • One thing really does anoy me though and that is judging the intensity/level/ahceivement soley based on the distance. He says people runnning a 5k are in a lower league this is not true it is just a different event there are loads of people who would leave him behind on a 5k race. Just a different event not by any mkeans a lower level.

  • Didn't you listen? He said he would never discount anyone who races in any kind of long distance events.

  • I really admire and respect Mr. Karnazes. What an inspiration.

However I don't agree with the anchor's comment that regular marathons are for whimps because of what he has accomplished.

  • Seriously. A single mile race can hold extraordinary pain within it, any distance is tough and none should be discounted. Dean SHOULD be admired for his mental toughness though, that's what puts him above other athletes imo.

  • Resting heart rate of 30... I wonder what his heart rate is while running? ....Thanks for posting this.

  • 150 bpm

  • Depends how hard he is going, idiot.

  • don't really really picking up the fullov'em self vibe from this guy, but honestly even if i did, he's pretty much earned it in my book. the man is an ICON!

  • Runners as a rule know nothing about strength or size, but I wont hold it against them. Cyclist have big legs? There's an example. That said, 300miles is huge, even for walking.

  • shouldnt u eat foods that are nutrient dense but also high in carbs n calories instead of shit food thats just really high in calories

  • the more processed foods have simple sugars and lots of fat, the key for him is eating fats because fats have 9calories/gram whereas carbs have only 4 cals/gram, also nutrient dense foods that tend to be high in energy also are hard to come buy, i guess you could say some fruits, but mostly you would be talking nutrient dense foods with fats, such as beans and other unsaturated fats, but thats where the slow digesting fiber comes into play which is what he tries to avoid

    hope that helped

  • kdc1937 lets see you run 300 miles non-stop

"hes a loser" yh whatever dont contradict yourself coz that sounds like loser talk to me

well done you can call someone a loser what an achievement.

  • Ha ha I can tell some Letsrunners have been checking this video out.

  • It's not about finishing the race, unless you weigh 300 pounds or are 89 years old.

If you're one of the highest paid runners in the world, you should be able to beat p diddy or oprah's time in a marathon. You also should not get beaten by hundreds of girls.

  • Some girls run really fast... His book was a huge inspiration to me... I'm 6' tall... before reading his book I was 270-275... really fat... after reading his book I started walking, then jogging a mile (barely)... after practicing and following Dean's example I could go 5-6 hours doing 8 minute miles.. and weigh 180... So I appreciate him... no matter what the critics say...

  • 5ks are about winning, marathons are about the experience. Completing his personal challenges takes an extraordinary amount of athletic prowess, and mental reserve. You can not run a marathon with the mantra of wanting to be better than others-let alone 12 consecutive marathons-you must want to better yourself.

  • u try running an ultra

  • Actually I've seen marathoners run slower than him, he has a good rate for distance. Is he a good sprinter? Unlikely, but I bet he has a great marathon time.

  • ...mediocrity? how many hundreds of miles can you run, douche bag? I'd like to see you even run 50k. You would fucking melt.

  • Dean is my hero

  • yeah well, fine. I run marathons and i know that this guy kickd a major fuss when the irish guy beat him in the antarctic. farce!

  • The fit was pitched because the runners participating had agreed to finish the race all at once due to the conditions. The 'Irish guy' sprinted ahead to finish first....I think I'd be a bit pissed too.

  • and dean was the only one in just running shoes, the others used snow shoes.

  • Man the harpoons! Sequence his genome! Michael Phelps has nothing on this guy, but seriously he is utterly inspirational and amazing.

  • This guy has had a massive influence in my life. If you have read the book, then you all know how keen you are to lace up and get outside!! I agree with all of you who say its all about trying, the hardest part is putting on your shoes!!

  • how the fuck does he protect his joints?/? how the fuck??

    ?

i meen no disrespect to him but seriosly

  • I've always wondered the same thing....

  • Really great interview, thanks for the post. Wow,100 miles.

  • He Ran 350 consecutive miles

  • He will kill a woman having sex, lol.

  • What a smart thing to write.

God some people are not meant to have computers.

  • Notice that he mentioned that it's about FINISHING the race, not winning the race. His accomplishment of 300 miles of running at one time is undeniably prolific.

  • this man is my hero

  • what a man i have read the book and its brillent anyone can read this book and be inspired.i know i was.

  • me too

  • When you try and achieve your personal goals, it gives you an immense feeling of self confidence and self belief. Dean Karnazes' personality is a product of what he has achieved in life. He might come across as "full of himself" to you, but you need to put his comments in context; he is talking about a subject that he loves and one in which his record speaks for itself.

  • Anybody else think this guy is totally full of himself?

  • I read his book, and yes I think he is full of himself.

  • he's really modest about everything, he never says "yeah, i ran further than you" he encourages everyone to try even a mile

  • I think that the only prize you are running for is the Kids K at your local 10K. I think that if you could run with dean for 10 miles I would kiss your ass. I would say that you need to get off your couch and spend less time on you tube being a critic.

  • how do you reach that conclusion? he was willing to admit that he does fail to finish at times and is sort of self depricating

  • nope

  • I went out and bought the book after watching this video and stayed up all night reading it! This guy is the shit! I'm gonna go run now..

  • Read his book and it's soooo good.

  • Inspiring Story...

If you get a chance please check out our promo trailer for our documentary titled, "MY RUN".

A story about Terry Hitchcock, a man who ran 75 consecutive marathons in 75 consecutive days... to bring awareness to plight of single parents.

We would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

  • Sounds as though we should have him on the show!

  • arrow dynamic?? wow

  • Dean rocks!

  • This dudes head is arrow dynamic. Thats cheating, I think.

  • Aero Dynamic.

  • hahahahaha.....whats wrong? jealous? Marathons are boring. It's not about the distace...it's what happens during the run. Try one before you comment numb nuts.

  • I would try to do what he has done before you speak.

  • polar1126, I hope that was a sarcastic comment. If not your an idiot.

  • wow this guy is awesome! i love the book. a sefinate read for all runners!
