M4A1 has a shorter barrel, gully automatic fire capability, and I'm fairly sure is illegal for civilian ownership. An AR-15 is semi-automatic and usually have a 16" barrel, normal US legal length. There's plenty more differences, I'm sure.

Your words show jest what I mean. You know nothing about long range shooting much less shooting in a match. An AR-15 with a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7.5 inch twist [if you know what that is] will shoot a 85 grain bullet very well at 600 yards. The saying at Camp Perry now is "shoot an AR or get beat by one" not my quote. Sure a bolt gun in .308 or or .300 Win Mag. is a bit better but that not what is shot in those matches. So go play with your toys and try not to shoot your self.

Dick head kid, well no I am 67 and I shoot rather well. If you care one drop about your firearms you might think of trying to care for the barrel. But it does not matter the way you all shoot. Try 600 yards at Camp Butner for the spring matches and then come and shoot your mouth off. By the way get a new barrel before the match you will need it.

M4A1 has a shorter barrel, gully automatic fire capability, and I'm fairly sure is illegal for civilian ownership. An AR-15 is semi-automatic and usually have a 16" barrel, normal US legal length. There's plenty more differences, I'm sure.
