@PairoftheSocks Luckily I haven't woke up in a sweat for a loooooong time now. Having blood sugar under control feels much better than being moody and "up & down" all day long.
I lost crazy weight by eating carbs...I ate potatoes and fruit every day, no meat and lost a pound a day. The key is to cut the salt out of your diet and cut the meat down. This really works. Potatoes fill you up for hours, low in calories and packed with nutrients.
@iamtashafierce Potatoes spike insulin through the roof. They can be part of a weight-loss diet, but for insulin resistant people? No. Potatoes gotta go. You can lose weight just by cutting carbs significantly. You don't necessarily have to get rid of them completely. But I recommend not eating any wheat, rye, or barley due to gluten issues (this goes for 80% of humans), nuts and legumes in moderation, sweet potatoes in moderation (did you know they're not even really potatoes?).
@iamtashafierce If you are an athlete, you need more salt than most people. Nobody should cut salt "out of their diet". Your body needs salt to operate properly. This whole "salt fear-mongering" thing in this country has to stop. But most people who don't exercise DO eat too much salt...because it's in all the GARBAGE, processed "food" they eat in MASSIVE AMOUNTS. Salt makes you retain water. It doesn't make you fat. And meat? I eat all the time and gain no fat. Carbs = to blame.
@lowcarbcory We can just agree to disagree...When i eat potatoes I always eat them with a little fat...this helps with insulin and keeps you full for hours. there is a girl on youtube named freelea who eat 5000 calories a day all carbs...raw fruit! Her body is crazy. I got some of my weight loss method from her...fast digesting carbs like fruit and potatoes is the way to lose weight fast. Meat takes a long time to digest but fruit takes about 24 hours
@iamtashafierce It's great that you eat the potatoes with fat (like butter), because that will render the insulin spike null. It's not the potatoes that make you full though - it's the butter. Trust me. Eating fat before bed always makes me sleep better, too. Organic peanut butter is amazing!
This freelea girl sounds crazy to me! Sounds like one of the potentially 20% of humans that can actually thrive on carbs. I am not included in that percentage. I respond terribly to carbs.
@iamtashafierce And I would argue that fruit is not a fast digesting carb, on account of it's fiber content (depending on what fruit we're talking about). Now, white bread, white rice, table sugar, etc.? Those are fast carbs. Potatoes? It really depends on what kind of potato. White causes a bigger insulin spike than sweet potatoes (again, which are not really potatoes anyway). But eating fat with all of these things will void the insulin spikes anyway. Balance is the real key.
@lowcarbcory You should check out her videos. freelea...she does raw vegan vids...I still eat meat just not every day. The carbs I do eat are not processed...so only potatoes, brown rice, and fruit. It's been working very well...great for digestion. Oh and about the salt...I do eat a little salt, but only in the morning.
Nice sign lolol I have a question are these snacks healthy?(Quaker yogurt vanilla bar, nature valley almond, newtons fruit thins) & maybe if it isn't healthy my brain says its definitely more healthy than chips, cookies etc lol thanks :D
@maliaX3girl I won't eat any of those things, because they're made with wheat, and I'm gluten intolerant, as are 80% of humans (probably you included). Do you get moody, have loose stools, painful gas or stomach cramps when you eat grains? If so, you're probably are gluten intolerant, too. And all that stuff you asked about? It has added sugar, on top of the harmful wheat ingredients that already break down to glucose (sugar) when you eat them. I say they're no better than cookies.
@MACastaldi2 Usually yo-yo'ing is a sign that you are insulin resistant. Do you have the amount of carbs you eat a day tailor-fit to your activity levels? Weight-training REALLY helps with insulin resistance, and so does going super low carb for about a week to empty out your glycogen stores (stored sugar) in your liver and muscles.
It's amazing how Drama & crap happens in the comment section on you tube lol crazy. Anyways dude I think your cool there's always people out there that will come your way to cut you up and say shit. Ignore them & keep doing what your doing.
@MACastaldi2 It's cool. People are allowed to argue my points, but I'm allowed to argue back. Some people don't like it when I cite actual scientific studies. I'm all about real-life experience and trial and error, but I research things before I do videos. I don't just wake up and think, "You know, this is what *I* think...and I'm going to go present it as the only truth in a video!". I've been mislead by people I thought had my best interests at heart, too.
@MriBackup No, really any pure carbs, even whole grains if eaten by themselves. The effects on insulin can really be controlled by eating the carbs with fat and proteins, though. I've tested this myself by eating pizza with whole grain crust and lots of meat and cheese recently...no hypoglycemia in the the middle of the night, no fat gain after eating whole pizzas for dinner every night for a week while building muscle.
Actually, carbs will put you to sleep and help with rest. Just because you are sleeping doesn't mean carbs turn straight to fat, it all depends on your glycogen levels. Carbs make you not release GH? umm, wow maybe you do need to listen to Ian because you are a moron broscientist.I suppose fats make you fat? Generalizations like this are the reason why idiots like you shouldn't be allowed on Youtube or any platform. And according to you, you should listen to someone who looks good and you don't!!
@jhomstad Okay, first of all - yes, carbs make you tired. Everybody who's ever had "that 2:30 feeling", as described in 5 Hour Energy commercials knows this. That's called a BLOOD SUGAR CRASH, my friend, and it follows an INSULIN SPIKE, which is what happens when you eat a lot of carbs (especially fast-digesting ones like refined grains). Carbs MAY stimulate melatonin release in the brain and help one fall asleep that way, but this has yet to be proven. And you're getting off-topic.
@lowcarbcory why do you assume that normal ppl will have this huge blood sugar crash and or and insulin spike will store fat...Protein spikes insulin did you know that? Do you eat protein before bed? Obviously people shouldn't eat sugar before bed I think we can all agree on that. But again worrying about nutrient timing as opposed to overall 24 hr macro consumption is mental masterbation
@jhomstad Define "normal people". "Normal people" in America appear to be overweight, fat, and/or obese, insulin resistant, and diabetic. And yes, I know that protein CAN spike insulin, but the effects are MINUTE compared to refined carbs, and I don't eat refined carbs. I also eat low-carb vegetables every night with protein and fats (olive oil or coconut oil). Don't worry about my diet - I'm doing just fine.
@lowcarbcory It's funny how much some people subscribe to the idea of radically different being better just because it was 'discovered' recently. I'm wondering if you have seen anything from Nick Tuminello? He wrote something about the fitness trends recently.
We're living in a weird time, we have access to so much information now but we are living such unhealthy lives compared to a few decades ago.
@57worldwide Nick's name sounds familiar. I will look him up. It really is disturbing how much common sense has gone out the window with regards to eating. I believe we all need to go back to eating as our grandparents and their parents did.
@lowcarbcory I have sent you a message with a link to the article I mentioned.
Going back to eating as our grandparents did is possible, but simply not as 'convenient' as the instant dinner generation wants. During the WWII era, there was a campaign in the UK called "Grow for Victory". Pamphlets were produced by the government teaching how to grow food, how to use what we now throw away. the 40s era wasted far less food (proportionately), and produced higher quality food.
@57worldwide Yes, people have certainly become disconnected entirely from their food. They don't even know where it comes from anymore. I hit the salad bar at the grocery store after the gym today...but even I have no idea where the food came from. Also, in WWII, we started making canned foods for the sake of convenience. I have no problem with canning really, but I don't eat canned veggies anymore since frozen tastes way better (and fresh even better than that!).
@lowcarbcory I think it comes down to options. When the UK government started rationing the food, it was in everyone's interest to produce their own food. We have obesity epidemics because we have the choice now. We can choose to drink high sugar energy drinks at the office desk. We "don't have time" to grow our own, cook our own, etc.
A good movement would be to form a neighbourhood grow operation. Like neighbourhood watch, but a communal garden plot where everyone does what they can.
@jhomstad My video is not about how carbs do or do not aid you in falling asleep. All Americans know carbs make you sleepy. Been to Thanksgiving much in the last few years??? It's not rocket science. The point of this video is that insulin either directly or indirectly suppresses, blunts, or inhibits (use what word you prefer, Webster) the release of HGH (Human Growth Hormone). You want to call this Bro-Science? lol I've got scientific studies right in the next comment to back it up:
@jhomstad We know that refined sugar in the diet makes the body increase extra insulin to combat the additional sugar in the blood. This increase in insulin causes an increase of a hormone called somatostatin. And somatostatin shuts down exercise-induced growth hormone released by high-intensity training.
"Somatostatin (SRIF) was discovered in 1973, in Roger Guillemin's laboratory as a Growth Hormone (GH) inhibiting neurohormone," (Somatostatin: a ubiquitous peptide, 1998, Epelbaum).
@jhomstad Researchers report that elevated insulin levels increase somatostain and this blunts the release of growth hormone. "In conclusion, our data indicate that in the obese, as in normal subjects, the GH response to GHRH is a function of insulin levels," (Elevated insulin levels contribute to the reduced growth hormone (GH) response to GH-releasing hormone in obese subjects, 1999, Lanzi).
@jhomstad In another study, researchers report similar findings, "insulin exerts a negative effect on GH release," (Evidence for an inhibitory effect of physiological levels of insulin on the growth hormone (GH) response to GH-releasing hormone in healthy subjects, 1997, Lanzi).
@jhomstad So there you have it - scientific studies which back up my point. Maybe you should get your information from someone other than Ian and stop being such a condescending little prick. And also, you've clearly not watched any of my other videos, because if you did, you would know that I've already done other videos on how fat does not make you fat, and you would know that I actually ate 6 melted tablespoons of virgin coconut oil on camera to prove my point.
@jhomstad And one last thing, tough guy - anyone is allowed to post videos on YouTube. If you don't like my videos, don't watch them. It's just that simple. No need to get your tampon twisted up in your vagina or your panties wadded up in your ass. Just don't watch. And I assume I look much better than you, so please, for your own sake, stop talking shit. Go post your own videos, show off your AMAZING PHYSIQUE which is so much better than mine, and THEN...and ONLY then...talk shit.
@lowcarbcory glad you wasted your time posting all that...I could care less about you or your channel...I couldn't bare to watch another video of your ugly mug...Yes I am bigger and better looking an you. Keep googling your information and copy and pasting everything. Chronic elevated insulin can lower GH but normal spikes you will see no difference. I'm a clinical pharmacologist and i'm pretty sure I can talk circles around your nutritional knowledge. Here is a tip read a little Lyle Mcdonald.
@jhomstad I didn't waste my time posting it, because unlike you, I actually have subscribers who like what I have to say and appreciate that I give advice and share my experience for FREE. And those people are who my response to you is really for. Obviously I don't care what a shit-talking know-it-all like you thinks, because YOU DON'T KNOW. lol Trying to tell me I "probably" think this or that...get the fuck out of here, man. lol And I'll google actual research anytime I like. Thanks!
@jhomstad Oh...and I already read Lyle McDonald. i read everything and anything. That's where all of my knowledge comes from. That and personal experience, which is something your hero Ian McCarthy hasn't seemed to have developed much of yet. Mr. Pharmacologist, will you please go share your wisdom with Ian? I'm sure he'd love to have you teach him to lose that fat he can't seem to lose. I'd help him myself, but he ALREADY KNOWS EVERYTHING, just like you. lol
@XrandomkX Fat. Eat string cheese, organic peanut butter, some coconut oil, maybe a little turkey, chicken, or tuna. Fat will keep you full longer and help you sleep longer and more uninterrupted.
Hey nice video again? Question: are dried banana chips healthy? I thought about buying them straight from market. Nuts are f*ing expensive here (you wouldn't believe me if i told you). I really need some snack foods and thought banana chips could be the best choice.
@Pirispanen I just ate some whole grain snack bars with dried banana in them earlier this week, after my weight-training. I really don't eat much fruit at all, but bananas are cool. Just like with anything sugary, though, don't overdo it, because fructose, the sugar in fruit, goes right to your liver (and your liver can't store much sugar) - it's more likely to be stored as fat than other kinds of sugar (like table sugar) for that reason if your liver's already full of glycogen.
@Pirispanen And oh yeah, I know how expensive nuts are...but really? From a nutritional point-of-view, they are far superior to fruit. Plain old peanuts are way cheaper than almonds, pecans, cashews, etc. and I buy peanuts when I'm broke-as-a-joke.
@wmbgcoupon Night time hypoglycemia is what he definitely has. It has to do with carb intake too close to bed and eating too many simple sugars/refined carbs. Tell him to switch eating fat before bed: Organic peanut butter, string cheese, a little turkey, chicken, or tuna, or maybe some nuts/seeds or coconut oil. It'll completely stop the night sweats. I guarantee it!
@KissFromDaddy By itself? Yes. If you have to eat grains that late, eat it with some fat and protein, like some beef, chicken, tuna, etc. Or put some olive oil all over the sandwich you make with that stuff. The protein and fat will slow the absorption of the carbs/sugars and stave off a big insulin spike.
@IaMmE920 I could try to do that, but honestly, I don't even count calories really. I just switch it up between beef, poultry (chicken/tuna), and fish (usually chunk light tuna), mixed with cheese (like string cheese or Swiss), some nuts/seeds, organic peanut butter, etc....but if you're trying to go SUPER low carb, you need to cut out the nuts/seeds and peanuts and replace them with low carb veggies like broccoli, green beans, zucchini, and cauliflower.
I totally feel you on the hypoglycemic. I would wake up, zero off switch, eating whatever the fuck kind of carbs in my pantry.

The protein and fat will slow the absorption of the carbs/sugars and stave off a big insulin spike.

Can you put together a 3 day reotation of all 3 meals a day no snacks of super low carb?

@IaMmE920 I could try to do that, but honestly, I don't even count calories really. I just switch it up between beef, poultry (chicken/tuna), and fish (usually chunk light tuna), mixed with cheese (like string cheese or Swiss), some nuts/seeds, organic peanut butter, etc....but if you're trying to go SUPER low carb, you need to cut out the nuts/seeds and peanuts and replace them with low carb veggies like broccoli, green beans, zucchini, and cauliflower.
