  • Awesome, thanks man!!

  • Anyone know how this engine runs on the average pc? Is it anything like the unreal engine in terms of being very light & system friendly?

  • @rickford75 Hey Rick :)

The game engine in itself is not really the taxing part - it's how it's used that would make it taxing. I can tell you that BioWare has HEAVILY modified the Hero Engine to a degree where it's a whole new beast, and the game will be able to run on low end machines. Hope that answers your question - cheers.

  • @deaconx I hope so, cause i truly believe that the only reason WoW did better than EQ2 is because of the fact that it ran on pretty much any system as to wear EQ2 much harder to run at launch.

  • Third person perspective in space sims is for homos who want to play the camera following the main character. REAL space sim fans want to play the pilot looking out of the cockpit in first person.

  • @Essefen Being straight is overrated.

  • and being gay is a cult

  • @Kinkseraph Speaking of average IQ's...You decide to reply to a 8 month old comment by welcoming a 4 year old account to youtube.

  • @Kinkseraph Oh =\

  • @Kinkseraph whats a rail shooter?

  • @DrMeh3 Ever played StarFox? That's a rail shooter. Basically, imagine if you were on a roller coaster so you're not actually in much control but as you're moving you get to blast at stuff.

  • @deaconx Oooooohhh so you can't move your ship at all??

  • @DrMeh3 For several reasons. 1 - This is like 'Space Experience with Training Wheels' so people who normally don't do this sort of stuff are eased in. 2 - Space isn't the focus of the core game, ground combat is, so this is sort of an extra right now. 3 - This allows BioWare to at least test the waters to see how much interest there is in space gameplay. 4 - I've heard from sources that it was added late and wasn't even part of the original design so... there ya go :)

  • @deaconx Oh ok. Yea I guess it's better than no space combat at all!

  • Too bad we will get a tunnel shooter for Space Combat :*(

  • bha looks like crap in my eyes

  • Ctrl C + Ctrl V Galaxies Space combat before that crappy revamp 3 years ago. Best MMO space ever

  • @baryon15 Reading is your friend. Read the information.

Clearly, BioWare is not going with this sort of space content experience - though many wish we had more of a free flight simulation experience rather than a tunnel shooter. Either way, as PeaveyFury stated this is just a demo of space combat made with the same engine (HeroEngine) that SWTOR is build with.

  • @deaconx fake as hell i tell you, its fake, don't you get it ? just look with your eyes,, it's fake

  • @baryon15 youre an idiot, where does it say THIS is from SWTOR? It clearly states that this MMO was build using the Hero engine, and SO is SWTOR. So Open space combat in SWTOR IS POSSIBLE. He did not state that this was SWTOR. Moron.

  • this looks frustrating as hell

  • Why didnt bioware do this? well two reasons, 1. look at this game.. it looks boring as shit. the ship bounces around and seems very unruly to fly. it looks like eve with manual control. 2. bioware is trying to make game play exciting and action packed. tube space combat = more exciting and action based than this or eve online.

  • @DarkPagan2035 it a tech demo...not a game...you would think this would be obvious.

  • Comment removed

  • wtf

  • u can get the full version ?

  • Unfortunately they've decided to go with the "on rails" star fox experience, as a rail shooter goes the new space combat in SWTOR looks good, but it's still a cheap alternative considering this is what the hero engine can really achieve.

  • game?

  • I wonder. Why didn't Bioware do this sort of gameplay, and instead have shitty "LET'S GO PLAY IN A TUNNEL" gameplay?

  • @Sareth740 honestly i think they should hire these people that made this game and tell them to take over on the space work and let bioware get back to working on the ground game tbh.

  • i love the physics of the space flight, its so realistic how the ship just drifts when its accelerators are off

  • What they did so far when it comes to space battles is rather dull. It isn't free-roam it's more like a rail shooter... Depressing really. I really loved SW:G's space fight's. They were really accurate as to how it is in the Star Wars movies/books.

But not accurate enough of course lol.

I wanna pilot a freakin battleship! That'd be sick

  • I hate flight sims. I hope they never add it but I do like Tunnel shooters and I am glad BW went that rout.

  • Tor space will be a single player, railshooter minigame lol.

Bioware really is catering to the low skilled, carebear thundercunts with this game.

  • @Madzombie51 Or they are trying to make a more contained and cinematic experience for the player.

  • that looks horrid

  • i highly doubt that this is the way space combat will be implemented. i believe it will be more like kotor, with you just manning the cannons.

  • Any clue if the TOR space combat will be twitch or just eve style?

  • SPACE COMBAT IS OFFICIAL! Fans rejoice!

  • pace comat is official just read it on a website

  • BioWare has just announced that there WILL be space combat in SWTOR.

They were vague about what form it would take. No idea if you will be able to level up, win loot, or gain crafting mats from it.

Let's hope it is more than a reskinned 3D version of Galaxian.

  • It's been confirmed, Space Combat will be in SWTOR

  • Thanks Deaconx

  • BioWare has confirmed Space Combat, today in Comic-Con. :)

  • This space combat looks pretty difficult to control.

  • Look pretty ugly

  • could someone make a hero engine torrent?\

    much to expensive!

  • @noname390

it wouldnt matter if you had the software from a torrent, the hero engine requires you to log into a development server hosted by the company to even use it. in other words, even if you had the software it wont function without the license and even if you cracked it to pretend to funciton without the license you would not have access to the database on the dev server to access your created files without paying for it

  • SWEET! So I can fly spaceships in this game and fighting aginst others?????? :O

  • looks pretty fun, they had me with being a jedi/sith but this is a whole new level

  • I don't think they'll have space combat in vanilla TOR.

But I'm willing to bet we'll see it in the first expansion.

  • finally i've been asking myself if there would be space combat added to this game and now i know that they added it

    yay

  • We don't know if they will add space or not for sure. This isn't FROM TOR, it's just a space demo using the same engine TOR is built with :) to see what it could be like.

  • well it would be very stupid if they didn't add space combat

  • @deaconx Fancy seeing you here, apprentice.

  • @deaconx yes indeed.

but you have to agree that if they want to make this mmorpg game succesfull they simply have to add space combat........pyon

i mean they did the close/ranged combat awesome so i mean come on.....pyon

(sorry i'm an anime-fan,due to all the ''pyons'')

  • @deaconx They have however said that space is a huge part of Star Wars and they are addressing it :D

  • @deaconx

As of today it has been confirmed there will be space combat

  • @deaconx

As announced today, space combat WILL be in TOR!

    Just a heads up.

  • @deaconx yes, we do know. it's just been confirmed :D

  • @deaconx You'll be happy to know that space combat was confirmed just today! :D

  • @deaconx They recently confirmed on the official SWTOR site that space combat will INDEED be in the game.:)

No telling how - if at all - it will be similar to this video. Still, if this video is any indication, space combat could be incredibly dynamic. In appearance, at least.

    Great vid.

  • It's been confirmed at Comic-Con. Good News

  • @deaconx Well, we know now that there will be space!

  • @MJimiD I never doubted it mate ;) it's all about marketing. Especially with anything Star Wars related - then you take into account how secretive both Lucas' companies and BioWare like to be... let's just hope it's an awesome space experience :)

  • @deaconx I know a lot of people are UPSET at why kind of space content TOR will have but really, it's a GOOD CALL. The 'rail shooter' experience will allow them to cater to people who are totally new to MMO's, deliver a cinematic experience as well and it's not a HUGE dev focus right now - the rest of the game is. Expansions later can expand on space, hopefully providing a more free roam experience. Consider this SPACE EXPERIENCE WITH TRAINING WHEELS ;)

  • @deaconx Funny I seem to be the only one who noticed that you replied to yourself...

  • This video really does a great job of making star trek onlines space combat look horrid by comparison. If only they'd done something even close to this for STo...

  • @vampirefredrik space combat will not be added in the initial release, although the Bioware considers it to be developed into a future expansion.

  • @nemury Incorrect. It was just confirmed to be in at launch at Comic Con today.

  • @ethanownz well yes, and my comment is 6 days old, i hope you noticed that, nobody could have known that except what they told us before Comic Con.

  • @nemury Of course I noticed, I just wanted the information in the comments page to be correct.

  • @vampirefredrik NOW we know it was and is ingame

  • @vampirefredrik It's been confirmed now. They told the masses at Comic-Con.

  • i no its old, but the SWBF 2 space battles looked better, just the way the ship moved felt smoother

  • @jaklz111 i dont understand why BW needs this engine when the one from Battlefron 2 is perfect.

  • are you serious or sarcastic?

  • @jaklz111 seriously.

  • Why is it perfect? BF2 is not an MMO after all and Hero Engine is built specifically for MMO creation.

  • @Ranziel1 i believe that the mechanics and controls of the spaceship in BF2 are perfect. Yeah its not an MMO BUT IT HAD MULTIPLAYER space battles UP TO 32 players, theres not much of a difference.

  • I'm pretty sure that there is a lot of difference. The servers have to support characters and objects all around the place and the overall strain on the server is much higher. But I've no true idea, that's just what I've been hearing in game betas from various developers when the "why are the graphics so bad" argument would rise.

  • Finally an answer to my question. Thanks to bioware. Please put some end game PvP too so we can fight with our star ships and swords and guns to the death. ! yey

  • Very nice indeed.

Looks very promising for any space-based combat TOR will have.

Nice upload Deacon, cheers for the link on TOR forums ;)

  • cheers for this post

  • I know people keep referring to swg but that space engine was, to me, awesome. I'll wait to see more footage and to see what bioware does to it. Hopefully there is a system where you can target each component and destroy it like you could in swg.

  • Thanks for posting this.

I feel bad for Colony Studios, though. Practically all 3D game engines can be used to create this type of space-based gameplay, but the Hero Engine is not really the best for that. Sadly, I don't think that "Universe Online" will be able to compete with "Jumpgate: Evolution".

But for "The Old Republic", there's some fun potential there. I hope Bioware will eventually explore it.

  • @noblue4u You are neglecting the fact the Hero Engine is specifically built for online games and specializes in MMO's.

  • looks awesome

  • Thanks Deacon. I guess this game isn't actually coming out? Still it shows the engine can handle space combat for The Old Republic.

  • Looks good ... :D

  • thx deacon for uploading this.
