  • 2gb is not enough - use 4gb enabler ... damn I have 3gb xDD

  • ... wait... how do you get windowed mode to fill the entire screen? mine is always in a square.

  • That's one of the best tutorials i've ever seen, really... you are very calm to explaining things, you speak clearly, you do a step-by-step kind of guide, really helpfull, thank you so much for this :)

  • That's one long lightsaber handle!

  • Wonderful tutorials Gopher, Your guides have helped me run a better, more enjoyable Fallout: New Vegas experience!

  • hahahaha I have 2GB of ram, i don't think that will works for me!

  • I get this error:

"Unable set current dir to FalloutNV dir.

The system cannot find the path specified."

I've searched for a workaround but can't find one answer. What should I do??

  • Very helpful video, it has helped me a lot, especially the fake fullscreen, but recently I have encountered a problem with it - my taskbar won't disappear, does anyone know why?

  • my game runs about 15 frames slower windowed but that might have something to do with optimus

  • i don't understand how the window mode is suppose to help the performance drop, after you talk/sleep to NPC i tried the Windowed mode with the MOD and my performance got worse, allso the game as far as ive seen uses mostly 1gig. ''Vanilla' FNV

Altho i have NVSE,Micro Stuttering Fix,and now 4GB(Mod) that is compatible with NVSE.

dont the 4GB load as much data as it can to be stored in you memory?

w it actually works besides just enables

  • @Ampex101 As I said, each system is different. I get different results using different systems myself.

  • @Ampex101 windowed mode forces your native resolution. So if you run the game for example at 800x600 but your monitor is 1680x1050 then it will run in 1680x1050

  • Performance Enhancing mod?

    Drd9="Slasher" Bloodrage

  • I'm having troubles, when I launch the game in "fake-fullscreen" mode, it just opens the fallout launcher

  • Oh the Crashes seem to come when my enemy's explode and their body parts fly everywhere, and also they come in the loading screens.

  • Whenever I open Steam or I get a message from Steam In Windowed mode, It's all white and It's the same when I play the game via 4GB mode aswell, and I double click the Fullscreen mode Icon and It doesn't load... My game keeps crashing and the loading screens take forever. I'm using a Windows XP.

  • 4GB improves game dramatically but Fake fullscreen makes it worse by about 26 FPS for me

  • @funnyjunk225

I have just tried the regular (non-Fake Fullscreen) mode.

In a full screen mode I had 60 FPS but in a window it immediately dropped to 35-45 FPS, so GO 4GB enabler :D

  • How to start game without Fallout launcher ? I have a problem..when i launch game from Fake fullscreen "The Fallout Launcher Window" shows and when I click play it disappears but in a second the window shows again and when i click on exit or play the situation is repeating.....

  • @Blackenedify I got the same problem: Steam launches the "FalloutNVLauncher.exe", not the "FalloutNV.exe" and with the "Fake Fullscreen" it just goes into an endless loop. Were you able to figure out how to fix that?

  • im getting an error with the 4gb enabler, NVSE and project nevada. it doesn't seem to work together.

  • @mymarshian whats the error they all work 2gether great as i use them and have done for a few months

  • @MrKendubz09 its gone now (coz i reinstalled the game and all the mods >.< ) but the error was when i try to open the game with 4gb enabler..NVSE doesnt seem to activate and makes project nevada to not work..im on fake full screen at the moment..

  • @mymarshian did you put NVSE and the fake full screen in the same folder ? and not the data folder ?

  • @mymarshian Are you using the 4gb enabler shipped by the NVSE developers on their own page? The one from Nexus wont work for NVSE.

  • my fake fullscreen isnt working, it says "couldn't retrieve EXE version information" then it fades out its just some ugly screen with fallout under it

  • @bDevZPREDA I got this one myself, just run it as admin and that solves the problem, or it did for me. Go into the fallout folder, r-click the exe file, look under the Compatibility tab for "Run as Administrator" and check it, then recreate the desktop shortcut. You'll get the retarded UAC-"are you absolutely sure you want the nasty programme to make changes" popup each time you run it, but it will function properly.

  • @sosolidshoe2 ok ill try that tommorow ty if it works

  • would you happen to have a steam because I would like to add you?

  • I have the same problem with FOMM as you do, for me it seems to crash every time I choose to make a copy of a file, but never when I choose not to. if youre problem is the same then this might save you some time in the future.

  • All your tutorials are really great, i love how you explain everything in detail. Now I'm stuck in this part of the tutorial(number 7). I downloaded the 4GB Enabler, i put it inside my New Vegas folder, i run it but i got no improvement in FPS and the game still runs with only 900MB-1GB ram. I tried both 4GB enablers from both NVSE and Nexus and they just wont work. My specs are:

    Pentium(R) Dual Core CPU E5200 @ 2x2.5 Ghz

    4GB Ram

    Nvidia 8600 GT

    Windows 7, 64bit.

    Thanks in advance.

  • @Isilendis right the 4GB enabler will not give you any more FPS unless you got a really old PC. and no fallout only uses under 1GB but if you have alot of texture and mods on your game it will use alot more while playing.

  • Linked here from the Steam forums, these actually improved my gameplay very slightly, and every little bit helps. Thanks for making this~

  • @PhantomRenegade You are welcome :)

  • @GophersVids one question i got the fnv4gb.exe file and the dll file done but when i tried it it couldn't find the steam_api.dll file. i have in the same folder but it cant find it still. how can i get the fnv4gb to find the steam file?

  • Thanks to you Gopher for these vids. I ran a very heavily modded FO3 but we all know that NV isn't quite as stable. Hopefully your tips/tricks will help.

  • I like your voice, and no I'm not gay :P

  • wow you're fucking awesomeeee!! thanks for taking the time to make such informative tutorialsss!! the community needs more people like you =D

  • when i use play with fake fullscreen mode and quit the game, restart the game. it changes my resolution into the highest. Is there any way to fix this? :l

  • @THEFREAK4498 Ahh, the fake full screen thing seems to force you to native resolution for your monitor. I never use anything but native resolution so I did not realise.

  • When I use the fake fullscreen to run FalloutNV it doesnt detect NVSE, any suggestions? Please?

  • So when I play the game through Fake Fullscreen mode, my Steam Community comes up as a completely blank white box. Whats that about?

  • Eliminate crashes in New Vegas? They should hire you.

  • gopher, I downloaded the 4gb enabler and followed all of your instructions and for some reason when i go to task manager (ctrl-alt-del), it says im only using about 2gb of ram.

what am I doing wrong? Im playing new vegas through steam and is up to date.

    my system specs:

    windows 64bit home

    i7 965ee

    12gb ram

    600gb raptor (gaming drive)

    asus extreme 6 mobo

    msi 6950 2gb videocard

  • When I use 4GB I have DarnsHuD and it doesnt have the ui changes

  • i was using fake fullscreen and it is fantastic but now it refuses to start new vegas

  • I have a small prob

my fonv 4gb does not read nvse for some reason

    i get an error saying

    Coudnt retreave exe information

  • Sorry for two Post but the limits of Words on youtube. And i have a Really good Computer the Game runs almost 60fps all the time. And i d'ont know Why after a random period of Time Bang Fallout NV The window 7 Crash window appears Damn i hate this Error so much and i have to Close the application. if you Have a magic Trick tell me please because its very Boring to play Fallout without Mods. And its one of those Game i can'T get bored of it

  • Hi I Really like your Video they are very usefull for those who they work with their Games. Unfortunatly it d'oesnt work for my games i Still Have a lots of Crash make the game unplayable. It make me Sick Because a Really enjoy Fallout NV more Than Fallout 3 and for no reasons. I can mods my fallout 3 with over 100 mods and no Crash. But Fallout NV Crash every 20 minute maybe more if am lucky and i have almost no mods at all most of them are Armors mods and texture for them. Maybe 56 mods

  • @GophersVids

Great Tutorial, one question tho. Can you think of any reason that CASM_NV would cause the vanilla launcher to crash? I have to deactivate it in FOMM before i can open the Vanilla launcher. FOMM did crash on me when i added it. Could that have something to do with it?

  • Your videos are great. After I saw these I thought "I wonder if someone did an FCOM tutorial like this for Oblivion" and sure enough there is! And with the Morrowind Overhaul, modding Beth's amazing games is easier than ever! You should do a series for Falout 3 with FOIP-FWE-MMM-Weapon mods when you're done with this!

  • @Browncoat1984 I don't think it would be going too far to say he should do a series on everything. :D

  • I will probably find a solution for this soon, but the fake fullscreen mod (I have tried both) is causing my fps to drop and fluctuate wildly. I imagine it is some setting in the control panel. I am using an i5 at 4 ghz and a 6950 2gb, the FPS is around 80-90 in Fullscreen on my current settings.

  • I'm glad I found this, as I also have a 5970. I hate how most games can't seem to squeeze out the full potential of this powerful card. (I was getting sub 30 fps and frequent crashes just from having ojo bueno and a depth of field mod, wtf? My system should be killing this!)

  • Do i have to run NV through the 4GB enabler, or can i run it through the mod manager and still have the effects of the 4GB enabler?

  • @GOXSTRAP it is possible to do so, but I have never done it myself. I am pretty sure it is easily done though. If you cannot find a link to it, post back here and I will try to figure it out tomorrow.

  • @GOXSTRAP hi that is easily done what you have to do is go find the 4GB enabler copy its name with its. EXE bit at the bottom then go to the mod manager go to settings go to Fallout: New Vegas the look at the command box put the full name off the $GB enabler there and evey time you tell it to play it will play using the 4GB Enabler i use the fake full screen and works the same way :) hope i helped u :)

  • @MrKendubz09 Thanks!

  • @GOXSTRAP Hey did you find a way to do it?I'm kinda looking for a way to load this mod without doing that too...

  • Thanks, Gopher! Following your tutorials, I went from a totally unplayable (albeit awesomely modded) game to a non-crashing, ultra stable experience!

And it's crazy some of the mods you talk about aren't a Nexus staple...

I hope you do a "personal favorite" mods showcase in the future.

    Cheers!

  • @spartan300 I totally agree. Gopher, you should do one about your personal recommendations.

  • computer specs?? Your videos are a godsend...btw

  • another great vid Gopher, Been making all my own fomods since you showed how and my data folder is so clean!

  • does archiveinvalidaton work with the fake fullscreen?

  • @Armonia94 Yes.

  • @GophersVids do these types of options work for fallout 3? because i cant run it on this but i have 4gb of RAM, and a 1.6 ghz processor. are there any options like mods and other things i could use to run it on at least minimum settings?

  • @falloutseriesftw most of this works for fallout 3 as well yes the fake widescreen also if you game crases/ freezes alot in fallout 3 put thew multicore fix if you have more than 1 core

  • @MrKendubz09 thanks, but my cpu is only a 1.6ghz single core, thats why i cant even run fallout. hahaha

  • @falloutseriesftw ouch lol mine is an i3 2.49ghz :)

  • Does the 4gb enabler work for the 3g ram?

  • @Nic3Mr As long as you have a 64bit the 4gb enabler actually gives you whatever RAM you have I think,. But yeah, 3GB will work.

  • Thank you so much for making these video's. I always run my fallout games with a ton of mods and these video's are a great help. So keep up the good work!

  • You should do a lets play or similiar, Your voice is very soothing (I hope I don't sound gay here :| )

  • @MrAndyasteroids His accent is awesome

  • @MrAndyasteroids You do, but that's ok. Nothing wrong with that. And I agree. Gopher's voice is calm, his explanations are clear, and that is soothing.

  • @MrAndyasteroids I woudn't say soothing :D but yeah he sounds like he should be reading story books, not modding games XD

  • Good I had to learn all of this things by myself in Fallout 3 and although it was pretty easy to learn what you should and what you shouldn't do , it was extremely time-spending . Everyone who learns something new from these videos must give a thanks in advance !

  • You're running nvse with the 4gb alternate? how the hell is that possible when you didnt download the nvse beta 9 file. you need to download btoh the nvse file and the 4gb alternate to work

  • @DangerousNewb I already had NVSE installed :)

  • Comment removed

  • wow thanks! this helped my crappy computer a lot! hehe

  • So many new juicy things learned! Thanks, Gopher. Will definitely be trying the fake fullscreen and CASM now that you recommend them. Don't get me started on installing straight from 7z... oh how I wish I'd known earlier. Looking forward to your next videos.

  • In a no homo way i love your voice man :D and nice video BTW it helped me out a lot on my poor PC :( my vids suck

  • I'm currently using the mods showed in these tutorials, plus some smaller ones. Then I stumbled upon nVamp, which merges NP, FOOK and some more. Have you tried it? Any thoughts?

  • @Landhow

I meant PN ofc, as in Project Nevada. Not NP.

  • @Landhow i have tried it bu i dont use it anymore as its not been updated for project nevada whitch if used with both it gives me no menu.

  • everytime i watch ur vids i think im listening to a college professor, good show mate.

  • Great tutorials. Thanks!

  • An excellent video Gopher .. I'm adding this to my site's 'New Vegas Help' section .. thanks! +liked

  • Another great video in what I can only hope will be an ongoing series.

  • @BlueLucky125 One more is planned for trouble shooting. Then I think all the basic things will be covered and people should really be able to install more or less any mod out there. I will stop making the tutorial document downloads at that point unless some obvious gap needs to be covered. But I may make more videos for YouTube covering mods that take my interest or my own mods etc. Not sure if people are interested in that though.

  • @GophersVids Sounds great to me :) Also I've noticed the alt-tab fix changes the resolution to your Desktop's resolution. Is there a way to fix that? Because it just creates a ton of lag for me :/

  • @BlueLucky125 Probably not :(

  • @GophersVids I would be interested in that have thoroughly enjoyed your series even though i'm an experienced modder
