  • What was the song he played before this, that he said he actually enjoyed playing for the first time in a long time?

  • "...float down to the symptom and investigate

i proved/beat myself required in this event"?

Oh how i wish a studio recording with these vocals would miraculously surface!

  • I never knew how long he stayed in Texas. But, it just gave me some state pride. Hearing this beautiful, being say, "Alright Ya'll!"

  • I hear some of the lyrics a bit differently, although I could be totally wrong (much of it is so distorted, anyone's guess is as good as mine.)

    I hear:

"The problems I have with this old contraption"

"You live inside it, but you can't describe it"

"for the times that your problem is a poison dart"

"a proud friend's gonna see you shatter"

"a tired and ancient ruler might build, the labor of slaves who're hardly skilled"

"I know there must be something wrong with this as your story"

  • @Vamphaery (Continued)

"You don't have to live in a lifeless state"

I also don't think he's saying "I did myself a requirement." When I slow it down and listen carefully at various speeds, it sounds more like "To prove myself required ______" but I can't make out what it is. It sounds like "new" something, or "move" something, but it isn't quite clear enough to be certain.

Anyway, just some thoughts. Like I said, I could be TOTALLY wrong.

  • Really, really impressive. The original was more impressionistic; this one's more intimate. Both are amazing, but currently, I definitely prefer this one. So full of intimacy and emotion... I love it.

  • did he actually wear that shirt with the broken heart shown at 4:45? it made me feel sad / sick when i saw it

  • @baglunch65 it's a shirt that says "I </3 METAL" you'll find pics him wearing that shirt.

  • i love him live.

  • elliott smith is KING

  • Just posted a cover of King's Crossing on my youtube page...

  • I love how emphatically he's singing this... wow. Even if the lyrics are different from what's written here, just the way he's singing them is amazing. <3

  • the pic at 3.56, amazing

  • its really interesting how he could change lyrics like that.... "graft" as someone else said...

    great audience in this btw,,,,

  • good version

  • i would have loved to see his facial expressions in this song, i loved the other kings crossing so much but hearing this version and lyrics its so hard to compare! Maybe i shouldnt compare at all.

  • pipe down that song was actually fun for me!

  • "you don't have to live in a life's mistake..." </3

  • " 'cause this feeling of loving.. i felt it in my chest....like the nighttime footsteps of an unknown guest."

The way his voice goes so strong here is heartbreaking.

  • So much passion, tears cant help but fall.

    beautiful.

a proud fan is gonna see you shatter

i know that there really isn't anything the matter

nothing is gonna be crying words.. they only want their voice to be heard

  • did someone suggest Elliott play Pink Moon? Seriously? If you're in the presence of Elliott Smith, a Nick Drake song is that last thing you want to hear.

  • @lawna002 ahaha

  • i saw some pictures i hadn't seen before where did you get them?

  • Where we can get a version of this live with a right sound? Please

  • Nice Job mate, Love both versions of the song, appreciate hearin this version of Kings crossing

    R.I.P Elliott

  • awesome, ty so much matey :D

  • wow

  • How did you manage to get the full lyrics of this, just out of interest? It's extremely hard to make out from around the halfway point.

  • ask "snowballinhell" from sweetaddy, she wrote the lyrics, not me

  • Wow this is pretty awesome. I've never heard it before.

  • I been thinking about this all day. I couldn't wait to get home (1:12am) and listen to this again. Thank you!

  • so amazing what i would do for a cleaned up version of this song

  • I would seriously sell my leg just to listen to this on my ipod.

  • type "nd9ysf" into google, you'll find the song

  • @Lovegood44 i think somebody owes somebody a leg

  • @Lovegood44 If you search "youtube to mp3" in google theres a ton of website that let you download the audio.

  • This is a very powerful version of the song. I wish there was a true studio recording of it.

Ultimately, I just assume the lyrics were too personal for him to actually release. The final lyrics were actually very powerful and beautiful as well, no denying that. Just a lost treasure

  • @RyanDunchProductions

"too personal for him to actually release." Probably a good assumption, though we'll never know for sure. I think the original was more detached. Still great, but nowhere near as intimate as this one.

  • lyrically his best song, this and the studio

  • SIT DOWN DNUSUTH!

    Sorry I had to.

And anyone should be able to tell this is Elliott.

  • Yeah its not Elliot Smith, its Elliott Smith.

  • Comment removed

  • @Transmissionwould Steven Paul Smith*

  • @theshittykid Well yeah, I was pointing out that he misspelled Elliott.

  • @Transmissionwould his name is actually Steven Smith

  • @northkato Yes, yes I know. I was talking about the name he went by.

  • I felt the drums in the intro was a horrible touch, made it wayy too upbeat

  • My mates got some 290 pound sofware,i'm gonna see if i can get him to clean it up.Then i can upload,or he can upload a cleaner version.

If he can do that i know i for one would absoloutely love it.

    Thanx for uploading blueapparition7

"Never gonna know you now but i'm gonna love you anyhow" R.I.P Dude X.O

  • If you could clean this version up that would be awesome... These lyrics are amazing!

  • Is there anywhere I can get this song?

  • this is amazing:) XO

  • this is great!

  • Which version was first? This one, or the other one that starts off like: The king's crossing was the main attraction, Dominoes falling in a chain reaction..

  • the other version came first, not this version, he only performed this version once (2000-05-09)

  • ah, thanks! but still, i love these lyrics...

  • One of my many geniuses of lyrics and songs....

I Love these alternate lyrics :D

    RIP ELLIOTT

  • where can i find this show? that was AMAZING! thanks so much for posting this!

  • I would give anything for a studio recording of this version

  • holy, it was that old

  • There's actually an even earlier version from 1999 but the lyrics he sang were closer to the version from basement.

  • can someone please decode these lyrics for me?? i have no idea what he is saying :(

  • Wow.

  • the lyrics are on the side..

  • I love both these lyrics and the more popular version's lyrics. Elliott was a genious.

  • wow kings crossing is already one of my favorite songs. and this is fucking aewsome thanks.

  • p.s. holy shit that was distorted.. thank you for putting up the lyrics! they're gorgeous! oh yes, and the video too! I LOVE YOU! <3333
