Hola amm pues solo les puedo decir ke los felicito x seguir las tradiciones mexicanas, pero si necesitan echarle mas ganas, que no se escuche tan lento en especial los violines y si van a cantar las mujeres (muy guapas x vierto) cambien el tono para que no les quede baja la cantada creo que en DOm les keda bien n_n

U guys suck no joke I don't care if we can't play El Cascabel but we don't play it so we don't embarrass our selves that is a tough song and u need a good group to play it they we fooling around on the line and they were tryin the vighuela was nasty and not strong the trumpets were not a good duo at all the violins were ok the only good thing i'n the group and they changed the notes a bit i'n a bad way overall I give it a 2

theres too much goin on during the solos. Everyone's attention should b focused on the soloists. Seems like this group can play this song to the correct level. i suggest u learn the original version first and maybe just stick with that one. Vihuela guy is stealing the show. Pull up ur pants and shave man. Guys with the pony tails, try to keep more original and get a haircut:) keep representing the music and practicing

I think that you guys should play music that is within your reach of playing ability. Cascabel is not within it. The vihuela player needs to work at it. The trumpets were a little off. and That thing with the hand sounds horrible. It's ruining the song. The violin tunning is off. And it's not even the way it is supposed to be played. You guys can do a good job just practice more.

Vihuela dude is pretty smoking. I didn't know there were any high school mariachi ensembles of this caliber. Are all the students of Mexican ancestry or to students from other backgrounds join too?

Mostly all are mexican, but we are very proud to have two violins of asian backgrounds. But they, and others, graduated, 2 days ago. So now were all Mexican. =) Yes, the vihuela player is Gilberto Ferreyra. He's very good, and has strong vocals too.

Have you ever listened to the similar musical tradition from the eastern coast of Mexico, in Veracruz? It uses harps in addition (which I think mariachi sometimes does, doesn't it--I think Linda Ronsstadt did an album with mariachi musicians a number of years ago, and I thought there were harps in that ensemble that backed her up).

Yeah the harp is used in Veracruz. This form of Mariachi music (that uses harp) is referred to as Son Jarocho. This song in particular is Son Jarocho, so most versions of this song include harp.

Wow, thanks for this info! I just found an article online that said that they're using the harp in mariachi bands in Tempe, Arizona, and that is contributing to a revival of the harp in mariachi.

this used to be the group i played with and am returning to. i play harp and sing and know a solo for this. i actually specialize in sones jarochos and rancheras. my tio was a jarocho musician playing in the "golden age" of mexican music in mexico city in los nacionales de jacinto gatica and los riberenos de ruben vazquez. since ive been gone ive learned alot from the records of my tio and the groups he played in.

idonno what jarocho groups from jalisco are like cause ive never heard from any. they were a group from Mexico City. The harpist Jacinto Gatica was a man from Michoacan who played jarocho harp with Conjunto Medellin which was the most famous jarocho group of the golden age. My tio arranged and played jarana for the group in their famous years. There was also a mandolin player and a guitarrist. The mandolin has died out in jarocho music but was played like a requinto. Andres Huesca used them.

There was also a female singer and dancer in the later years. She to me was one of the best voices of mexico. She ranks up there with Lucha Villa and Lola Beltran. She, the mandolin player, and the guitarists were from Veracruz. My tio was a Mexico City native. They became the #2 jarocho group during their time. Conjunto Villa del Mar de Angel Valencia I believe is known to be second. I have 4 albums with my tio, one after he left, and one with the 3 guys playing with harpist Ruben Vazquez.
