The Gun Line: I 've been studying elements of poetry that may help people accept Common's use of the word "gun." The elements are "Symbolism" and "Comparison." The gun is just a symbol for power and also a metaphor for his poetry. Note how he refers to his gun as a "black strap." This means urban poetry, which is a "weapon." Also, note the juxtaposition of the "peace sign" and "gun." He acknowledges the threat that his words pose, despite the peaceful intentions. Maybe I helped clarify?

I have no clue why everyone thinks common is such a good rapper. His words just don't go together very well and he flows in that simple one syllable end of a sentence predictable rhyme scheme. Also that ending gun line was just awful and in bad taste. Look up Monch's when the gun draws instead.

The logical fallacy here is that you are equating cops with safety and that it is the actions of the minority community that have caused the cops to stop caring. How can we follow a leader, when there's a corrupt one".....obama, is our first black president, and unfortunately he's a puppet. as were many before him, and many to come. His agenda comes from those above him. Our presidents are pre-chosen, by the elite. Sorry to say how voting means nothing!! tricks people to make them think they are doing something. It's really time to wake up, our government isn't ours anymore. They are they're own entity now, influenced by the most powerful.

Businesses = Jobs
Jobs = Money

Now, if Obama destroys Businesses, then there will be a reduction of jobs. If jobs are lost, then there is no money being made. If no money is being made, then another great depression begins.

@sammyjs1983 The ways in which you're wrong are staggering. Most notably that last sentence. The logical fallacy here is that you are equating cops with safety and that it is the actions of the minority community that have caused the cops to stop caring. That's not how it's seen in the community. The cops don't exist for protection. At least, not protection for the minorities. Also, the poem seems more reminiscent of "speak sofly but carry a big stick" than it does a call to war.
