  • I love District 9. Best sci-fi movie in years. The aliens, especially Christopher, were alot more relatable than the humans.

  • district 9 is what i believe to be id one of the greatest movies of all time it has a superb story with great acting, CGI, it is also a very dark and depressing movie which i love about it, with a great script i absolutely lobe this movie to death it deserves more credit than what its given

  • The First Act is brilliant!

The Second act gets abit odd and B movie Silly

The Third Act is typical shootout that is horrible :L

  • I'm three quarters into watching this on Starz, and they had it as a four out of four star review. You must have to be a person that can totally suspend all reality to be able to think this is a good movie. Every single movie put out in the last 10 years, guy films have gone this way. As a woman in her 50s, I give this a true thumbs down. My star rating is one and half stars. You immature men looking for action and girls w/ tattoos in their 20s will get more out of it.

  • It's Neill Blomkamp, not Bloomingkamp, you idiot. Do your job, at least get the name of the director right.

  • FYI guys, 40 seconds is way too long for an intro. Around the 10 seconds mark and i forgot what the hell i was watching and 5 seconds after that and i was just about ready to change the video.

  • i didn't want to see this movie cause i thought it would be like cloverfield and i just got it and glad i did but i think with the cat food you can use it as bait to catch crabs and stuff maybe thats it but it was mean when he ate the cat food that was nasty

  • I'd like to suggest film critics try to get informed about filming techniques and crew member names, if it's not too much ...

  • i just wanted people who loved this movie not to get overhyped and be critical, cause there are many superior sci fi movies

  • @sancoandpanco like what.........seriously I cant think of any that are better. I can think of some I liked just as much.

  • Dont get me wrong its a good movie but its overrated as hell

  • Many plot holes, bad dialogue and

the motivation of the main character is often unclear.

However i really liked this movie

    3,5/5

  • I liked the fact that his motivations seem "unclear" for a simple reason - he is someone who is struggling between being selfish and doing what is right.

For example (SPOILER ALERT) he wants to get rid of his alien infection and go back to his normal life and is in a self-preservation mode . . . but then comes a point when he has to quit being selfish asshole and then do what is right and unselfish.

  • Yeah you are right, i watched the movie once again and got it. but there are still many plot holes

  • Well, maybe I didn`t see the plot holes. . . but I DO have one question which will resolve this discussion:

Considering all things, are you going to see the next part of D9 in a movie theater?

  • I will because i am curious how Neal Bloomcamp gonna do it. I dont think the mocumentary style will work in a sequel.. but who knows we gonna see. If movie gonna have big budget, the produsers and the studio will influence the movie, so it probably gonna suck...

I dont think the sequel will blow me away if the original didnt. But i gonna check it out

  • @sancoandpanco Dont take this the wrong way, but it sounds like you didn't understand parts of the moviie? if you think Wikus' motivation is unclear i suggest watching the movie again.

  • The mocumentary part doesnt tell any backstory about aliens at all its only like they arrived, they were put in dinstrict 9, thats all. Really... And how the fuck did people learn to understand the prawns language? I can understand how the prawn learned to understand human language: they learned it fron niggerians. And yeah why are aliens wearing human clothes?

  • Poeple how is it explained in the movie why aliens dont use their weapons and trade them for cat food this still confuses me...

  • If they use their weapons there would be 5 billion angry humans surrounding them

  • Well why doesnt people do any research . Why dont they sent scientists to district 9, why dont they make research on their spaceship. I mean there is no interest in aliens at all.

  • @sancoandpanco, at the beginning of the film it is shown that the humans are researching the aliens weapons, they then state the weapons are geneticaly intergrated, so yes the humans are researching the aliens.

  • Just rented it....and I loved it. Strangely enough, my cousin and his wife hated it. I agree that it's dirty, but it's meant to represent the slums, and I thought it was a very interesting look on segregation. Definitely a good comparison to Verhoven.

It's not racist. It's about racism.

  • i just watched d9, it was amazing

  • Great review guys.

    keep them coming!

  • Indeed it reminded of Verhoeven's Robocop, but also the social commentary Romero put in his zombie movies. These mini-reviews are fun, btw.

  • How about reviewing 70's sci-fi Zardoz and Silent Running.

  • A very good movie that has restored my faith that CGI can be used effectively.

  • I thought the idea was more interesting than what I actually saw. Thought the camera work was wanna-be verité. Don't care for grimy set design. The lead actor was good but what does that mean? Means he was good at being dislikable. So no, I wasn't rooting for him. Thought the story was long and plodding. Disappointed in final result.

Sould've liked to have seen more action. More government invasion. More all-out war with the traffickers. Utter prawn revolt. Fight their way off-planet.

    Boring.

  • This movie was better then I though and supprised me more then I though. I never though I would see a film about this. It was worth the time and money to see it.

  • Oh yeah I agree with you guys 100%! Mini-Reviews: A-Go-Go!

  • Hell yeah, I second that!

  • First!

  • When I saw the trailer for this movie, I thought it looked like a ghetto version of Starship Troopers, but people have been telling me it's really good so I plan to see it....if only it'd come to my theater!!!!

Good review, guys. short but sweet.

  • the best movie of the year in my opinion

  • great sci fi... great climax.

  • Peter Jackson has...Good Taste...perhaps....no?

    ZING!!!!!

  • Enjoyed the format switch. Thanks for the upload.

  • Eddie, I loved how you said Armond White is a shithead!

  • I only speak the truth. I urge you to read his review of District 9. It was more of hate speech than a review. In fact, it pissed Roger Ebert off so much, he wrote a response to his on his website.

  • @cinefiles Didn't Ebert defend White's review? Only to back-track later (calling him a troll!) after numerous fans emailed him (Ebert) with the lowdown on what White was really all about. But! still, he did defend the review.

  • @nookie077 He did until he read his other reviews. He wasn't familiar with his work until the whole controversy came up. At first he defended him. Then he was directed to some of his other reviews, which quickly changed his mind.

  • @cinefiles Cool, I'm with you. I think the reason he defended him in the first place was due to the intensity of the hate being directed at White - this guy seems to have real knack for getting under people's skin. Ebert calling him a Troll though, that was classic!
