  • You're awesome! You are a hero! Thanks for sharing your story.

  • Thanks for the video Carolyn. You're such a brilliant writer! I'm surprised that you buy into this butch/fem notion. I'd love if you explained sometime. I think most lesbians are too complex to fall into "masculine" vs "feminine" categories according to society's constructs, which is basically what butch/femme means, no? But given the labels, I'd say you were a femme, even a superfemme. "Bette" on L word was a butch. There were others too. To me it's not about lipstick. Running out of space.

  • thank you for not just the vid but for pointing it at butches

i remember how rough it was growing up this way...

    but...

damned skippy! really does get better!

  • I love butch women.

  • what's a butch lesbian?

  • thanks for sharing your unique story and i wish continued success in theatre. just goes to show you that stereotypes exist in all groups, and being yourself just rocks. have a great week!

  • I used to do community theater but I ended up quitting because I was tired getting costumed in dresses ("Yes, I have boobs. No, I can't walk in heels. Why is this revolutionary to you, dude??"). I haven't been onstage in three years. I do miss it.

Anyway. Until just now I thought I was the only butch lesbian who was a theatre junkie. Thanks for making this video. It seriously made my day.

  • in the 1990's i started noticing Boston butches transitioning identity.

Femmes who loved their butch/femme relationship were sometimes left behind when their partners came out as gay men and dated bornmen or each other rather than femmes. ow... something of a shake up and maybe a tad ....trendy.

    LOVE YOUR BUTCH BODY.

Please know you dont have to get operations to be fully fullfiled in life.

I love ALL OUR FOLK, and TransMen and Butches are not interchangable.

    LOVE YOURSELVES, & LIVE LONG!

  • People who commit suicide are killers. By definition. There is NO excuse for suicide. There is no excuse for killing one's self.

We should love others, and love ourselves.

  • You're an inspiration!

  • Carolyn, dear, I liken your work and attitude to that of the late May Sarton... Why should one settle to be a Homer when one can also be an Odysseus with decent journaling skills and a clever publisher. :-) You help us remember that it's about the experience itself, not ruminations of the past. Warmly, N.

  • Great video!

  • I'm not exactly a baby gay - I'm thirty years old and came out when I was thirteen, but your words still had a great deal of meaning for me! As an actor I can relate *perrrrfectly* to a great deal of what you said. I've been lucky to do a good number of lesbian plays and one acts, most of which I've played butch lesbians (although I was a pretty hot goth femme Vampire in one of them...rowrr) and it's so refreshing to find characters that look like me and talk like me. Thank you for your work!

  • Right on, Carolyn Gage! I second all of that!

Stand up, be butch, claim it, own it, do it!

  • Nice video - I had to chuckle a bit when you talked about butches being in the booth - I am a butch lesbian & also a stage manager. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be an actress but was discouraged by my parents so I got my degree in theatre management and became a stage manager.

But recently, because of a project called the Vet Art Project Seattle (pairing military veterans w/artists), I came out from the booth & have been performing a few spoken word pieces - it's been wonderful! :o)

  • @parkerwolf8 You know why butch lesbians are in the booth, right? Because they're the most reliable staffers EVER! If you want something done and done right one would be wise to assign that responsibility to a butch woman. That may be a stereotype, but I've never had a butch friend who I couldn't rely on completely....

  • I love lesbian butches!

  • Thanks for your supportive message, Carolyn. :)
