  • Good vid!

Heh, I was just in that elevator about 4 days ago and oh god it scared me! lol

  • Thanks, and were you really in this thing!!, do you live on Long Island?

  • Indeed I do ;)

  • Oh wow, you do live here, do you think you can tell me about any other elevators on LI that I should know about. Send me a message if you do.

  • I am really not sure about any elevators here man. However, I was thinking of recording a couple of them at my college and showing them to you :)

  • Please try to record them.

  • It sounds like it's REALLY straining as it reaches the third floor.

  • Yes, it sounds straining really badly.

  • This is your typical A&S Elevator!!!!! What a surprise that they were too cheep to replace it!!

  • I know, its stupid. What do you think they would have replaced it with?

  • 1980's-Westinghouse

    2009-Schindler or KONE

  • The reason it shakes going to three is probably becaujse this was only designed for three stops (B, 1, and 2) when it was installed in 1962. The third floor was added on, but they didn't bother replacing the elevator. Pretty cheap.

  • the 3rd floor was added in the 80's

  • No, it has nothing to do with its former distance that makes it shake, its just old and crappy.

  • That too. It's been a piece of crap for a while, I used to ride that thing all of the time. They need to replace it.

  • actually Dan, this elevator was designed for 2 Stops(ML, and UL in the day) , and it the store was expanded to the basement shortly after the store opened, about 2 years later. Then in the 1980's, the 3rd Floor was added, and this elevator was expanded to the 3rd Floor, since A&S WAS Cheep

  • Dan, they couldn't have made it go to the basement if its hydraulic. I think it always went to the basement. Especially the fact that the machine room is in the basement.

  • the basement could've been there, but was not made a store floor until a few years after the store opened

  • The main panel wasn't changed in 2000 but the fire service was added.

  • The floor indicators are like Schindler.

  • Yeah it does, but its really an Epco part.

  • The pannel was replaced in 2000. The Epco InchLine was added in the 80's

  • Nice elevator, and I too like Otis Elevator, as well as Epco fixtures, since they're very high quality, and aesthetically pleasing.

  • Nicholas, I wish Jon got a video of the machine room, it sounds SCARY. This elevator is 1000000000000000 times worse than how Jon's camera picked it up. If I go back to Walt Whitman Mall, I will film all the elevators, as well as the machine room for every elevator(except Bloomingdale's, which IDK where it is)

  • Well I would make it an "ok" elevator because its a death trap, but not bad because it has my favorite chimes. And Otis is my favorite brand. I also like Epco fixtures.

  • I agree with you too.
