I tie my horse at the same length and with the same concept. I just really add loops in the quick release, one of our horses actually figured out how to untie himself O.o we nicknamed him Houdini. :P Also, you can tie your horse to a rail, especially if it's a thick Cedar rail. I wouldn't tie my horse to a post because there is no room for a quick release, or for it to successfully happen.
ok., why so much negative feedback?? well am watching these vids couse i just got my new horse and i dont know how much about the care he needs., why instead of the negative comments ya dont post the right way (to you) on how to do this., so newbies like me learn what to do.,
You actually happen to be genuinely gorgeous, thanks a lot for the video recording. its miserable i'm located within Leesburg considering that i cannot end up getting very good make-up, but i get 100 % free samples of makeup through "GratisMakeupSamples". i love L'Oreal make-up!
ok give her a break, in case you guys dont listen at the start of the video, these are her OPINIONS, they arent necessarily they way you have to do it, they are just the way that she knows how and it works for her and her horse. it may not work for you, and thats fine, but dont go insulting her for having an opinion.
@kazziejazzie08 well my opinion is that they should put the tires of the car on the roof that way they don't wear out. the thing people complain about is a lot of the stuff they show is wrong. there are diferent ways of doing things some i like and some I don't but there are somethings that are wrong others just plain dangerous. now excuse me while I go put some tires on the roof of my car.
limitedchoice is right; rather tie a weak knot so the horse can get away if he's spooked than one too strong that wont give if he pulls. THIS LADY DOESN'T SEEM TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HORSES!
no kidding. i know a horse that had to have its eye removed because it spooked while tied to a fence rail like the one in the video. the horse that i am talking about is bombproof btw. always ties your horse to baling twine! you are right, she doesnt know anything!
PLEASE DON'T EVER tie a horse the way in which this lady is describing. NEVER tie directly onto a fixed structure or tie ring. AWAYS USE BALING TWINE. I have never seen anyone succesfully manage to undo a quick release knot WHILST a Horse is pulling backwards. The pressure pulls the knot tighter. I have witnessed numerous accidents to both Horses & people as a result of tying to fixed objects without using baling twine. Even a nail from a tie ring in someones eye. TRUST ME IT HAPPENS!
Baling twine are you kidding me? All you need is a rope halter. I hate those this nylon halters. A rope halter will break if it needs too and doesn't look tacky like orange baling twine. Expert village is stupid because they take anyone and say they are an expert. I do agree though that we do use baling twine if we are trailing a bunch of horses together. We use it incase one gets in trouble it will break easily.
oh & plus you should not tie to a fence unless there is no other option. if you take some baling twine and ties it around then its an easy realase if the horse gets spooked etc but not too weak.
Trust me, I rather have the baling twine too weak than too strong! Invest in a good quality quick release lead rope. They undo automatically (make sure the lock is off when you tie up) when pressure is applied by the Horse pulling backwards. BUT never ever lead a Horse with one, unless it is the one of the more expensive versions that incorporates the locking mechanism for leading purposes.
@breyerhorsegirl37 it is one way of tying a quick release. I use it all the time and it works quite well. you might be thinking of thehighway mans hitch witch is better if you have a horse that fights since it will release under presure more effectively.
I agree that most of her advice is not what I would consider decent.
Not so great... I'm still not sure how to do this properly. Your arms sometimes got in the way and I couldn't see how you did it. It seemed to me like you did it diferently the second time too.
that's the worse knot I have ever seen. the second time it is not even a knot. Leave the horse tied with that knot, go for a pee, and you will return to an empty fence! And you tie the horse slightly longer. And you want to have it tied to the post. Swining I wish I knew how to make a video to show you how it is done! Sorry, she is really bad, but technology is not my strong point!
Welll unless your horse is so quiet it wouldn't even turn its head, I would tie to the post. You should tie to the post because its the strongest part of the fence. If you tie to the board they would be able to break away easily.
If you were a "seasoned horseback rider", as you claim to be, you would know not to tie the horse to the board. Anyone even lightly educated in the area of equine tying knows that you are supposed to tie the horse to the post.
I don't really have a problem with the knot she's tying. Whatever works... but... tying to a fence rail??? That's a disaster waiting to happen.

@kazziejazzie08 its not the right way to tie a quick release knot tho
breyerhorsegirl37 1 year ago
@kazziejazzie08 also at 1:23 she would still have to take another 10 second to pull the lead rope over the bar

but then you can't grab the horse with anything. the horse doesn't even have a halter on.
xoSiNgInGiNtHeRaInox 1 year ago
@NeveseveN777 yes, but if you use bailing twine, it is less likely to break the halter. A leather/breakaway halter is safer than a rope one

with that the last loop she left she should have pulled the rope through again cause the horse will just disappear with a knot like that.
