@JacobHilbrich The only effect Ive ever used would be overdrive. (Fulltone OCD v.4). You can see and hear the pedal in the video here. (Ive probably got the crunch dialed at about 25% or so.) As far as chorus and tremolo... People use that with Gretches all day long with fine effect. I dont think I've heard any Gretsch with a fuzz pedal. I might give that a try with my Tennessee Rose.
Yes, th PB or even regular B do work. I also heard they don't work... but on this guitar they do. There's nothing special about the pickup other than it is a fairly fat single coil. Not as big as a P90 or even Jazzmaster coil, but bigger than a typical Fender single coil. So running into a clean Fender Twin, with just me, myself, and I... it seems to work fine. I havent tried it in a band scenario, or otherwise tried it in a mix.
Kur0y4m4 - I'm looking for a used G100CE and am interested if you are selling. I play a lot of acoustic so I'm wondering if the phosphor bronze makes it louder. Let me know if there is a case and how much you want, including shipping. Thanks. pekoe1111@yahoo.com
Yeah, the G100, and G400 (Pure acoustic archtops) will be harder to find and likely to be more expensive because of it. Ive tried the G100, using phosphor bronze (not steel) strings its got a nice warm sound I think youll like. Good Luck
I am wanting to buy either gretsch g5120 or g100ce. i am mostly an acoustic player, as in i dont even own an amp. hence i guess im looking for something with better unplugged sound. which would you recommend???
@jae0584 If you dont have an amplifier, I recommend the G100CE with Phosphor Bronze strings. It projects just as loudly as my Ovation Elite acoustic. If you want to use overdrive, or distortion in the future... get the 5120. The Synchro can do some crunch, but only has one pickup in the neck. The G5120 will give better crunch from an amplifier. What kind of music do you want to play?
@Kur0y4m4 thanks heaps!!! im into the living end, foo fighters, green day, etc.
I wanted a gretsch ever since i came across the living end. I only ever play acoustic, so i was worried about the sound projection. in fact, I just happened to try out a 5120 today at a guitar store (they didnt have 100) and i was pleased with the looks etc but rather disappointed with the acoustic sound... simply too soft. sounded like a slightly loud solid body guitar :(
Great video! This will be my next guitar. I couldn't believe how warm and responsive it was when I played it. Yours is the best demo I've seen on YouTube. You're using a Q3 recorder? The sound you get is fantastic. Thanks.
nice job. You have quite a collection of Gretsch's. Being a Gretsch owner myself, (G6128t-tvp), I def enjoy the vids. I assume your independently wealthy to be able to afford all those Gretsch axes. LOL jk thx again
@hagtar12 Hey guy. Thank you for commenting! Actually only have the two Gretsches now. I DO want to sell my G100CE and buy a G6040 MCSS... but that thing is really pricey. They key is...sell some guitars you dont use, to buy guitars that you want! :)
@Kur0y4m4 Interesting. I'd be curious to hear your opinion on the G100CE. If you're wanting to sell it, I assume you're not happy with it? I liked it. I expected it to feel cheap, being a sub 1k guitar, but it felt really nice, and sounded great through the Deluxe Reverb they had at the shop. It's the first archtop I've played though, so I have nothing to compare it to. My only Gretsch is a G6128T.
@rockinfinch Please dont misunderstand. The G100CE is a great guitar and given me nothing but good times. But, Im selling it for the same reason I came away from Les Pauls and to Gretsch. (Size). If the G6040 were the same size as the G100, Id have no reason to want to switch. The filtertron is a nice pickup, but the single coil on the G100 suits me just fine. Having said that, the G6040 is a bigger guitar. which suits me better because of my size.
@Kur0y4m4 Cool. Thanks for the reply, and good luck getting your G6040. And again, thanks for the demo. Based on my experience, this is exactly how that guitar sounds and until I get mine, I'm happy listening to yours. Cheers!
nice work...

You could dirty it up with more crunch. I used the bare minimum in this video pedal has the crunch set to like 6%. (Fulltone OCD v.4)

...i wonder what it would sound like Jack White ( from White Stripes) played
Death Letter...check out the video: White Stripes Death Letter live in Blackpool.

Do the phosphor bronze strings work while plugged in? I've been getting different answers, and you seem to know what you're talking about.

@rockinfinch Yes. I recommend the new HD Zoom Q3. The regular one is not so good in low light, but the audio has been good to me so far!
