What a play by LaFontaine to get the puck to May who then undresses Borque (Who was ver overrated as a defender...don't get me wrong, he was a great player...but in his own end, he got a lot of credit for work done by guys named Wesley and Sweeney) and scores a great goal.
@pajinski1 NO, he DIDN'T ruin the atmosphere. How would YOU react after witnessing an OT winner, would you just sit on your hands & have NO reaction at all?? LOL
BOB Sweeney. It wasn't as nice as game 4, just him spinning from the corner, pivoting into his right handed shooting position and blasting a slapper that Moog let through his pads because of a screen in front of him.
I remember this in 1993. I honestly though the sabres were going to win the cup in 1993. With lafontaine mogilny and hawerchuk and with fuhr in net. Lafontaine and mogilny were both injured half way throught he second round against teh habs and fuhr was playing with a groin terror. I still think to this day if sabres were healthy they would of beat the habs then isles and kings as well. 1993 should of been buffalos cup!
Sabres sweeped the heavily favoured bruins and with lafontaine mogilny and fuhr all playing hurt and mogilny and lafontaine not playing for half the the series we could of won the cup that year. Sabres get by habs if they were healthy all they had left was islanders and kings. Sabres very easily could of won the cup that year! I think with the team they had they would of ran over islanders and kings!
if buffalo's ENTIRE starting defence didnt die in the playoffs thery would have beat carolina for sure and then obviously beat edmonton.... still, at least edmonton didnt win!
I know I'm 5 months late, I agree that the Sabres could have won in 93, but their best chance was 99. That in the crease rule screwed them that year. In 93 the Penguins were the best team, but lost Lemieux for the playoffs. There were alot of 2nd best teams that year Leafs, Sabres, Canadiens, Kings, but the Penguins were the best that year.
Yeah but look at the team lafontaine hawerchuk mogilny then you also had second teir scoring from audette khmylev wood, ect ect. We had a decent team in 93 and if they were healthy i think they would of beaten montreal and who would they have had to play after the habs?
The isles and kings? The most talented team they played that year wasnt the habs even though they lost to them it was the bruins in the opening round!
raj2007ca, I agree that Buffalo had a great year. The final 4 teams were Leafs and Kings in the Campbell's and Canadiens and Islanders in the Whale's. Buffalo was better than Montreal that year, I can't argue that. Roy was the reason they won that year. I think that when Lemeiux being hurt for the playoffs made the playoffs more wide open and up for grabs so to speak. I hope Buffalo wins a Cup soon. I can't wait to hear Jeanerett's call when that happens.
Buffalo's upset was shocking considering they ended the year 6 games winless. They had underachieved considering their talent up front, with the best C-RW combo in the league arguably. Healthy, they might have stretched the Habs out but they were swept. Sure it was close each time but Lafontaine did play in 3 of the games, sore knee or not. Mogilny got hurt in game 3 when the Habs were up 2-0. They were pretty healthy in losing the first two.
True but lafontaine wasnt healthy throughout the whole series and mogilny missed pretty much the final 2 games.
Even fuhr was not healthy if u remember the boston series he got injured in game 4. He played awful against the habs compared to how he played against the bruins and boston had much better scorers then the habs.
Im still saying if that team was healthy they could of won the cup. They had the islanders and kings after if they beat the habs. That team should of won the cup!

Whatever happened to the Game 1 OT goal? I believe it was Dave Sweeney who scored it.
