  • at 2:05 isnt it possible to just play a4? preventing ab5 and giving the bishop a scope in a2?

  • What's your ELO or ECF rating, Sean?

  • I don't have one just yet buddy - I have to play 20 official games to get one and thus far I have only played seven. My score so far is 5/7 so it's looking pretty good! Going by my opponent's Elo, I would say mine would be around the 2000 mark. I will let you know! All the best,

    Sean

  • Love the Corus coverage... good picks

  • wonderful position shirov achieves

  • Bishops rule ! very nice idea !

  • Awesome video! Quick question: At 8:16, how does f6 prevent Shirov's crushing attack?

  • Well, if f6 instead there is no Bxg2 combination. The main point is that the white queen is still covering the g8 square, preventing the other rook from coming over into the attach. It's quite surprising that Tiviakov missed it; he's a grandmaster after all - but then perhaps he hadn't considered the Bxg2 line. Glad you enjoyed the game!
