Actually in NHRA they get $40,000 and in IHRA they get $23,000, which is chump change compared to NASCAR

In Pro Fuel (AA/FC or T/F) racing, it's not about the purse of the event, it's about the corporate sponsorship in which many teams, if they don't annihilate too many parts, have budgets (and paychecks) as large or larger than many NASCAR teams. It's much tougher because of the number of entrants and well-financed teams to be competitive in NASCAR but I agree that prize money easily trumps NHRA and IHRA. I happen to like them both.

I think he had 1 tire that was a winter studded tire and it grabbed more then the all season on the other side, that happened to me one time on my peugeot the one side hooked and i did a 1/4 mile wheelie got real scarry so i had to switch back to pump gas because the Alcohol just had WAY to much power .Mine you it could have been the combination of having the Huge 67hp Briggs and straton modified motor or the soup charger i had plugged into the cigarette lighter .

plastikseraph, they use very skinny front tires called "Steering Specials" because they actually help to keep the car straight by not over-gripping the racing surface as well as they are more aerodynamic and have much less tendency to 'balloon' and come off the rims. NHRA & IHRA Funny Cars use wider tires but if you saw them in person, they'd look about half the width of an average automobile tire.

they have 2 gears fast and faster after about a second u see the engine speed slow slightly they aint timed the guy has control it does have a shifter but all u do is pull it trust me i know i seen the insides of one up front

the gearing is done in the rear end, the have a reverser and at the line when u hear the engine drop A lil they have released foot clutch engaging several clutch stages

By the way,, could you even imaging shifting while going 330 mph? These cars have no shifter, no air shift either. They have 1 single gear in which the power from the engine is calibrated for conditions, fuel intake is also adjusted +or-, the gearbox is also calibrated for conditions, torque from the wheels to the pavement, and tire pressure is lowered, or raised according to track temp. If you listen, there is NO shifting going on on these cars on a fast run.

I thought they had two hydraulic clutches that were controlled by a pre-set electronic fuse, so the first clutch is used to leave the line, and then the fuse triggers the second clutch (with a longer gear ratio) after a pre set time, i think you can hear on some videos the engine note drop for about half a second while the second clutch engages :)

they are not allowed to use electronic clutch management, its all pnuematic and in multiple stages that can be applied or eased up on at different places on the track
