my friend says that if you make your foot vertical when you use dwi chagi, it will have more damage than when your foot in horizontal position. Is that right?
Could this kick kill someone? I get bullied every yearand I've had enough of dealing with it and am deciding to take action. I've been taking Taekwondoe for 5 months and am determined to get this kick down before school starts. I have 2 weeks until school so I would really appreciate it if I got a quick answer. Thanks :)
i luv ur videos on these kicks i look up to u on these vids i have a question about ur ankle supports do they really support ur ankles well i use tape i hate taping my feet i want something to jus put on n start traning
Hi. I've noticed through all your videos you use your right leg a lot. I happen to use my left leg all the time and only. I want to use my right for the greatest advantage of both my legs. What would be a great exercise that would improve my technique in using my right? I have no balance as I try, is there any stance or anything that can help me catch my balance? I believe the usage of my left a lot takes off the center of balance from my right which allows me right to kick extremely sloppy.
@Deface94 Yes. And also I forgot to mention something in the video. Throwing a back kick from a neutral stance is different from throwing one from a side or back stance. Just before step 1 (the cross step), you need to pivot your rear heel forward. This will line your kicking heel up properly for when you throw the kick. If you were kicking instead from a back or side stance, the rear heel would already be in proper position (or near it) for the back kick, so pivoting the heel isn't needed.
hey Kwonkicker i have a problem with doing the back kick using my right leg. See im an orthodox fighter but i can only back kick with my left leg so to set it up i gotta jab cross into back kick. I dont know what im doing wrong but when i kick with my right leg i end up turning too much and hurt my right foot because i hit the bag with the middle or ball of my foot. Can i post up a video of me doing the kick to see what im doing wrong?
one day at school i was talking to one of my friends and this kid sitting in the chair to my left he pulled my pants down in class and it really pissed me off so i kicked him with this same kick, and i hardly kick him he went flying he flew out of his chair and the chair went flying lol i got 5 days out and im not allowed to fight anymore in school since i took kickboxing and bjj classes they called the cops and that cop understood and i didnt get into much trouble...
@UFCKID123 good for you! I would've done the same thing...I mean WTF?? Pull someone's pants down. What if you accidentally pull the underwear down as well. I would piss me off as well
@poopooizzy It can be used for both. However, it's much easier to land as an attack, since a basic back kick is a longer range technique. A jumping back kick can also be used for both, but is generally easier to land as an offensive counter attack, because of it's speed, and easily adjustable range. It's all a matter of practicing timing and distance for that particular kick.
@woreer9 It depends on what distance you use for your sparring... Are you a tall guy? Can you use long range skills efectively? Side stance is mostly used for long range kicks.
@woreer9 Yeah you should... And learn to always keep this distance... Learn a good jab too... Be accurate and fast... And always pack some good straights in your arsenal... Watch some Muhammed Ali fights... Especially the one he fights Cleaveland Williams in 1966... Using that kind of speed and packing some good kicks... Can turn you into some good average fighter...
Always think about speed, technique and accuracy...

somewhere at 5:50 - 5:55, you slow down and I notice that, as you kick, you "fly" as in your foot leaves the ground. Is that supposed to happen when we do the kick?
@TheMarvinJoseph The basic version, you throw the kick where your supporting foot doesn't leave the ground. Once you've mastered basics of the kick, you can begin adding a skip with the kick. This will allow your body weight to move forward unrestrained by a stationary base, and significantly increase the power of the kick. Not only will you have the power of your leg and hips in your strike, but you will also have the added power of your unhindered body mass behind your strike.
@kwonkicker Damn you kick that hard? i would have one but i don't have the space or the money. thanks for the heads up and i appreciate you not being a bastard about the whole not reading the description thing. my bad. [subbed]
when this kick lands, is your foot straight up and down ( like a backwards inverted push kick) or is your foot side ways ( like a side kick)? or does it not really matter?
@SaucySasquatch the foot thats kicking should have your toes aiming towards the floor and your heal up as much as possible, usually you'll end up having your foot in a slight angle on impact which is fine, the reason for this is to allow mainly your glutes to generate power at its fullest, the main reason why this kick is very powerfull.
very nice vids and kicks. I am karate teacher who also studied taekwondo. I try to teach kids the correct way of kicking and how to be more flexible. Your vids rili helped me in explaining the technicals of kicking easily. Keep it up man:)
I don't know if it's possible but it would really help me out with some of your videos if there was a view from above. That's the way I look at my feet and practice my foot position so I think it would help to see what it looks like when you do it. Other than that your videos are awesome and your technique is pristine. Thank you.
@mrdhk93 i find it useful to put my front leg about 7 inches foward and then execute it very quickly. I find that a very effective technique, that can catch even the fastest of opponents.
You know what's weird? i can throw this kick 1000 + times and hit the target every time with my left leg, but i cant aim this kick for shit with my right leg. i end up hurting my right foot cuz i hit the bag with the ball of the foot from spinning too much i guess. I have to throw a right cross and hope the opponent moves back to then create space for my left leg back kick since i stand orthodox. I wanna kick with that accuracy with my right leg too though. What am i doing wrong?
Oh and another thing it is necessary to provoke your opponent in the direction the kick is coming from in order to increase the power of the strike and catch them off guard. Usually if you attack one side with either punches or kicks theyl tend to step the other side, at this exact moment is when the spinning back kick is released.
Very nice technique. In kyokushin the spinning back kick is completely different. Since we can come closer in range the back foot comes in a circular path rather than a linear. Any of these spinning back's connecting to the plexus or liver will put you down for good.
I saw this other tutorial where this "master" was doing a spin kick and it was fucking terrible. And what's worse is that people who are new to martial arts were praising it and saying "i'm gonna try this today" etc...etc
those type of garbage ass tutorials needs to be removed from YouTube or be put in the "garbage" section.
This tutorial however is excellent. I hope people new to martial arts or just want to learn this kick for the hell of it, listen to this guy instead of some other jackass
@kwonkicker I disagree with the earlier response to mrdhk93. While much of this kick is great, letting the arms flail like that is bad form, first because if you happen to miss, the next kick will be a skipping roundhouse to your head or chest, and second because the reverse torque of those flailing arms actually cancels out some of your force.
Otherwise, though, there are some really good bits of advice here, and it's a really nice looking kick.
Also good advice if your having troubles getting a full extension, try jumping higher. When I first learned this kick i couldnt for the life of me pull it off, my leg always did some weird half kick. Then I realized i didnt have enough time and tried jumping higher than i normally did with great results!

hey i got one more question: u mentioned, that the back kick and the spinning hook kick are different. i watched the hook kick tutorial but couldn´t figure out what the difference between the two kicks are concerning the FOOTWORK.
if the situation was in self defensive. and this kick was delivered to an opponent un expecting this kick. would it take him down completely if performed correctly?
Great video. I have boxing, bjj, wrestling, but I never trained my legs vert well. Thanks, I have been practicing this for a while, but I will now tweak the kick.
Bruce lee is kung fu this is Taekwando and you heard him he said it was "tested", but who know who tested it; I would like a source, but I beleive him
@krusher611 no, bruce lee is jeet kune do. It's tested in the nat geo fight science program, you can see it on youtube but they didn't test the flying side kick
VERY nice, thanks for posting.I fight Muay Thai and want to learn this kick ,one to change it up a little and get em thinking about it,two because I think this kick is a sneaky hard attack that is even more devastating then the push kick's we do.Thanks again dude.
Thanks 555 I will give it a go.I have been trying the spinning back kick in sparing.I'm having trouble with the timing a little, but it's working.I like it on dudes that are good at catching my round kicks .Fake the round then spinning back kick, BANG.

if the situation was in self defensive. and this kick was delivered to an opponent un expecting this kick. would it take him down completely if performed correctly?
mtizzle06 1 year ago
@mtizzle06 well, yes but you would get charged (if caught) for disproportional self-defense :P

VERY nice, thanks for posting.I fight Muay Thai and want to learn this kick ,one to change it up a little and get em thinking about it,two because I think this kick is a sneaky hard attack that is even more devastating then the push kick's we do.Thanks again dude.

i like 2 use a right push kick then pivit on my left foot landing this kick with my right and deal a huge push kick 2 the mid section
mikee555 2 years ago
Thanks 555 I will give it a go.I have been trying the spinning back kick in sparing.I'm having trouble with the timing a little, but it's working.I like it on dudes that are good at catching my round kicks .Fake the round then spinning back kick, BANG.
