Anyone wondering where Anti-Flag got the opening quote should go to wikipedia and search for "First they came for..." (periods including but not the quotations). It really wasn't referencing the Cold War, but Nazi Germany. So really comparing Nazi Germany to what we're becoming.
@watchthiscityfall Thats because america is becoming nazi germany. I see it all around me... in my friends and family... everyday.. growing more hateful, resentful, and brainwashed by the day... I think they are gonna target the Mexicans because of the immigration problems... It's sad when you have to watch the country you live and grew up in turn into what it fought to protect you from not too historicaly long ago...
@DjStoner96 It's also about standing up and speaking for people that your government or someone else is persecuting, you might not have that specific ideology, or something something completely different. But when everyone else is gone, who will stand up for you when everyone else is gone? "Then they came for me [and there was no one left to speak out!]) was somewhat how the original quote went, paraphrasing of course.
@watchthiscityfall I understand. I think if there wasnt a government or media or selfish greedy people to brainwash the middle and lower class into hating certain groups within themselves we wouldnt have this problem.. I know anarchy wouldnt last or realy work on a large scale, but realy any type of government? We wouldnt need things like religion and government to set us straight if we could act right in the first place.. I might sound crazy to you, but I think humans are a bunch of sick fucks.
@DjStoner96 No you don't sound crazy what-so-ever. Humans are a bunch of sick fucks, but it's a shame the majority of us who do have good intentions and can help humanity achieve the greater goals sit by idly watching us destroy one another .I think anarchy would be able to be achieved on a world wide or large scale. But the thing is, if there was a large push for a anarchist society, it would have to probably be a worldwide revolution. Dissolving borders/states globally.
@DjStoner96 Check out Anarcho-syndicalism, I don't know how much you believe in socialism and/or communism, but yeah. It's pretty interesting stuff, even check wikipedia if you want, they have a page for it too just to generalize things.
"first they came for the communists, and i did not speak out"=reference to the Cold War. The US wants to control everyone and wants fear in people. So they make other countries seem "bad" to scare people into putting their trust in the government, when in reality there's nothing to be scared of. This song is talking about having confidence in yourself to speak out against the government.
@punkrocker828 My chemical romance actually does not, it's just music for girls and people who like a different kind of music than you. Trust me I do not like them at all, but my girlfriend does & I finnally understand why there still even a band... Because little girls need there "punk rock" too, & honestley stuff like GBH just does not apeal to them, I can get her to come see local bands with me, cause she likes seeing me happy, so just let the little girls be unhappy/ happy with there shit.
