? Who is this? I'm trying to remember who all was with us that day? Didn't see any info on you on your YouTube page... so figured I'd write here. Please respond. I'm VERY curious! :-)
:-) Got it! :-) Yeah, I can see that in the wording now of what you wrote... but, when I first read it it sounded like you were there... and the only person with us that day (that I remember!) was a father & son camping next door - and my boys (11 & 13) and him hung out allot that week. Sooo... I was wondering if you might be him! :-) Anyways... thanks for the reply. Settles my curiosity! :-) Oh... and, it was a fun day flying! Thanks for the nice post - I'm glad you enjoyed the video with us.
I'm about to buy a slow stick plane.. I was wondering how difficult it is to fly, i currently have a hobbyzone plane that i can fly pretty well. THe neighbor has one and i decided to upgrade, how long does it take for you to get used to flying a slow stick? Are you satisfied with it too ?
It is by all definitions, a trainer plane. So, if you've got any experience at all - then you'll find the slow stick to be an enjoyable plane / easy to get used to after flying any hobbyzone plane. I am definitely satisfied with mine. Fun plane - and - lots of "upgrades" you can do to it! :-)
Uhm... not sure. I switch gear between planes frequently - and as this plane I only use in the summer... :-) ...I have flown it with diff setups. So... I can't remember for sure which setup I had on it when I made this video.
Hi Mark, I'm Tim Peterson, from BBC. I was looking for slow stick videos to show my son Joshua, because we plan on getting one and working on one together for him to learn to fly on. Anyways, I came across this video, and looked up your blog. I was amazed to realize that you are the Mark Ferry I know. I have been flying rc stuff since last Christmas. I started with a Esky Robins 22 and then went to a honeybee fp. I just started with planes in October. Cool to see we have much in common.
I didn't. The way the floats were angled water splash didn't hit the electronics usually. Motor got it allot though... but I had no problem with the motor. Still flying it! :-) Yes, not waterproofing in some way creates a "risk" - but - waterproofing prevents cooling / air to get to the parts needing cooling / ventilation. So - either risks the parts. My two cents! :-)
I can see that the floats were a bit heavy, and the plane was diving, raising, diving, raising.. A brushless engine would probably work better. But hey, it worked! Thumbs up! ^^
Sorry man - but, the floats are made of pink foam - very light & I am already using a honking big brushless motor. This plane will fly straight up easily. :-) What you are seeing is trim problems. Floats were mounted in the wrong place AND angled wrong for landings. Fixed now - but haven't bothered to do anymore filming. There's more details on my blog.... but, this was maiden flight / 1st battery through it. I posted this vid ONLY because its more interesting to see BAD landings! :-)
Also - notice the 1:26 to 1:30 section... and you'll notice me trying to "harrier" a landing... so to speak. This was done using less than 1/2 throttle. If you listen just afterwards you'll hear me laugh & say, "It worked!" :-) If it had ailerons it would have been prettier! :-)
Sorry! I meant to emphasize the fact that the many landings on this vid were more like crashes than landings. Didn't mean to imply a crash crash. :-( Sorry about that!
Yes for 1 summer. 2nd summer esc went bad. No proof it was water but thats the obvious suspect right. The way the floats were angled water splash didn't hit the electronics usually. Motor got it allot though... but I had no problem with the motor. Still flying it! :-)
What did you make the floats out of?
CorMc09 8 months ago
@CorMc09 Pink foam core insulation from Home Depo. A sheet of it was like $12... so I've got plenty left over for more floats! :-)

@3DpastorDOTblogspot Thanks, they look really good :)

Neat... Makes me want to try some floats myself. I like how you were able to stick the landings.!

QUACK QUACK funny ducks - good idea i can save $19 if i make some for my slow stick too
santatigerclaus 1 year ago
Very cool. But the surface tension makes it hard to have really smooth landings.

for a 1st flight with custom plane id call that pretty good! it was kinda cool how it just plops in the water. nice work.

Looks like a fun and easy to run plane.
Never saw one of those before.
Was it home made ?

angle up your floats so that you dont have to stall each time you land.
jjswimmer2014 1 year ago
Very nice, but try and fly it without stalling it on landing.

I really like the look of this plane. Is it a custom build? Are there plans on the internet? Thanks

Yea, I'll agree the floats did look to have a bad angle. It looked difficult for you to put the aft end of the floats in the water first.

No crash !
Nice plane. Try to keep straigh during aproach for landing.
