I realize this video is old but how did you not anticipate the weather changing and temps dropping? Are you a fucking idiot? I t seems like your basically saying y our afucking moron, good job. Way to do enough research and planning. I would call the humane society and report you for animal cruelty.
It is almost like you should build a greenhouse and put everything in there, it could be temporary or something, just plop a hoophouse over the entire thing and take it off in summer?
yeah, I've gotten away with this year... Maybe in my new location; if I can ever make THAT happen, in these times.
I'm going full green house and will take a small corner for self, not very sexy but I guess I'm over that Chase now. It's 10K for the slab i want, that's without plumbing & power.
2 more years of saving, i hope we last that long in a free-enterprise system.
I've been here 4 years and this has been the coldest winter so far. A hoop-house would work well in the interim. thanks.
I hope you can make that dream a reality! I don't know how much time we have, I think we may have more than we think, but then again, I'm an optimist, viewing the world through rose tinted glasses. So, I guess we will find out.
Colorado is usually cold, but it has been a hot winter, so much so that I've already planted, and now we get a cold front in, go figure huh? :)
I think the idea of a glass house is a great idea ... maybe clear plastic corrogated sheeting is bettter ... not sure on that one though.
Even a still to make alcohol as fuel for your car ... I've also seen clips by Rick Simpson suggesting that cannabis oil cures cancer (fungis) and all blood diseases.
You are on to a good thing ... infact theres many things we should be able to do.
I'm thinking we have 2-4 years up our selves before the system totally collapses ... thats a complete guess.
Freeze survival: Get some plastic sheeting and make a box tent over the pond (about 10 x 10 x 6 feet high). Make a wire frame around the base of the tent and loosely tear up a couple of straw bales between the wire frame and the pond sides, as if you were composting for mulch. Throw one or two survival foil blankets on the straw ring to reflect heat, but leave gaps. The decomposing straw will keep things warm at night, or during a prolonged ice storm, in case your power goes out. Squirrel
fish need oxygen/food no matter what and moving water will keep a hole open in the ice. How do I know that...we ice fished as kids (Dad made us) and once I fell through ice as I was messing around next to a "spring" and Dad told us to never go near that spot because it was not solid ice and he was right. Anyway the spring water was rising all the time in the one particular spot so the water could not freeze up unless it was like 10/F below zero.
yeah, down to 10 here the other night, and I have a few feeder goldfish in my pool out back. there's just water in the deep end of the 30K gallon inground pool, but almost all ice covered except for where the pump is flowing the water. I'd be carefull of that easy set up pool getting ruptured, as they are economically made, I'd imagine it could rupture from the freezing damage...
Ill have to look back in your videos to see what kinds of fish you have , but I remember a friend of mind had goldfish in an old bathtub in his back yard and it would freeze solid. Come spring when it thawed they were alive. Though that was amazing. But still its a risk. The heater you get should go the trick nicely.

yes that's a great construction idea. I would have never thought of insulating a temp structure in that way.
Smart, thanks Squirrel

Wow! that is some cold water! Remember I have a "fry daddy"!! btw, the goldfish in my little system are hunkered down.

It maybe to cold for it but what if you made a solar hot water heater (many how to vid on you tube) for it to help out the temp. just maybe...
