If you want to be really impressed, watch this piece being performed by only ONE person. The most difficult thing these guys are doing is just staying together. Go listen to the man Vladimir Horowitz himself perform this. Now that's amazing! Volodos gives a fantastic performance of it too. And, you get to see his hands move. Wow!
@Beethovenfan12 I agree, Horowitz's version of Stars and Stripes is amazing. I'm a huge fan of it, and it's insanely difficult. But in all fairness, this version IS different than Horowitz's version, not in difficulty but definitely in texture. This arrangement has features that one person could not do by him/herself (esp 2:22-2:38). Again, I'm a huge fan of the Horowitz version, but this piece is not simply a "spread out" version of his.
@becauseiplaythepiano I can agree that they have modified it, but it is still amazing that ONE person can get (almost) the same sound as the FOUR. I think the solo version is better. These guys muddy this up too much. There is so much sound going on that the tune is almost lost. I think it might have helped if they had taken it a bit slower. On a positive, I do think they are good pianists, and it was fun to see their hands from above.
Stop commenting that they're "playing too fast" that just shows they have enough TO play it that fast. I doubt all you people that comment that couldn't even play this song
im learning this song for a camp thingy. i personally feel that these types of "march tempo" songs can be played and sound good at any tempo, especially fast. it also makes the song more interesting to listen to when youve heard it the same way over and over in the past.
Very good, that is for sure, but a march tempo is not like "Allegro" where faster is necessarily better; a march tempo is generally a distinct, specified tempo of about 120. You guys pull it off, but maybe a little too much allargando before the final strain.
great talent...just a little too fast for a march!! I'd hate to be marching down that parade at that tempo!! Great for a aerobic marching maybe! jejeje
i totally agree with DFDalton1962 about the speed. it is extremely fast for a march, and the finale is just plain ridiculusly fast. it is a march, it is supposed to be played at walking tempo. listen to horowitz, who actually arranged it for piano solo, AND was one of the greatest pianists ever. it sounds very intriguing at this speed but it is empty of any musicality. 2/5 for technique alone.

Nice arrangement and excellent playing. But it's too fast!
I do realize it's a little much to expect these pianists to appreciate and convey the true spirit of an American patriotic piece like this, however. So I'll cut them some slack for not being an American brass band and rate it 4/5.
WOW!! That is SOOO cool!! I am actually practicing for a piano quartet that my teacher is doing instead of a recital!! She has a TON of students so if she did one whole recital it would be wayy to loong!!

Really good from a technical standpoint of course, but it could have been better artistically -- by SLOWING DOWN a little. Like ragtime, people seem to rush through marches. Playing this fast is just showing off unnecessarily.
interesting^^;

Yeah, the modulation was quite horrid, it seemed like everyone fell behind/ahead in the tempo. Other than that, it was pretty good. :)

Oh Jesus, that horrible modulation at the end! But I have to say, the ensemble playing was very good. The arrangement, not so much!

What's really scary is that four guys at two pianos can't even hold a candle to one guy at one piano.
Of course, that one guy being Vladimir Horowitz, I can't really blame anyone.
BenMcCormack91 2 years ago 6
no this is a two piano arrangement, a little different the horowitz solo
xskysealx 2 years ago
That's... um... exactly what I said.
Like I said, four guys at two pianos still can't make as much sound or play as well as Horowitz at one piano.

judging from the support-arm-thingies though, it seems as though the covers were removed alltogether.
