99-01 cobras 03-04 mach1's do pull on the Ls1 99-02 camaros/firbirds its true anyone that really ever raced the two will know this no matter what any fanboy says from the Ford/Gm ones this is a typical outcome. Outta the hole ls pulls till the end of second after that well you saw. I had many races like this one.
I have heard people stating stock Ls1 f-bodies running High 12's but never seen it stock. Seen them do it with drag radials and gears as I did, otherwise ive seen lots run 13.3-13.8 at 98-105 all the time just as I have completely stock. In all honesty 325fhp with 365ftq weighing almost 3700lbs (assuming coupe) is impossible to run high 12's. 03-04 cobras had 100 hp and 70 tq on those f-bodies and ran high 12's off the showroom weighing the same. Boosted hptq>NAhptq
@The2001cobra Our LS1's are way underrated from the factory, most guys are getting at least 310rwhp and there have been a few M6 guys to reach the 330 mark bone stock. My auto WS6 would run 13.0-13.1 all day when she was stock. Now with only an exhaust cutout, lid, and free mods i'm running 12.7 with stock gears and street tires.
Not sayin they weren't underrated but Ive seen alot of people dyno incorrectly and yield 65 +- hp rating depending on wheel positioning on the dyno roller. 90% of the ls1f-bodies ive seen dynoed have been in the high 270rwhp with a uncorrected dyno and yes any of the higher dyno's were ws6's. My cobra when bought new put 268rwhp down on a uncorrected dyno. Now I could vary the wheel positioning and gain about 30 more rwhp the 268 was dead center on the roller.
I still fail to see how you could be runnin 12.7 stock with only 310 rwhp with a 3700lbs car without driver not denyin it just never seen it. Like I said before 03-04 cobras run/ran high 12's stock and they where underrated also rated at 390fhp and actually came with 420+fhp. Which means they were putting out 390ish to the wheels. On any 99-04 mustang or f-body it takes a 400+hp or 350+rwhp motor to run 12's unless gears are utilized terminators and ls2 goats can do it stk
@The2001cobra what makes you think my car weighs 3700 without a driver? I'll admit it was about 45 degrees and our track is usually prepped pretty good. I usually pull a high 1.9 60 ft. I have several videos of my car at our local 1000 ft track if you'd like to check it out.
F-bodies ss that we weighed were near 3700lbs and the WS6 were around 3600lbs I wasn't aware of what you had and I was talking about the camaros since its a camaro in the video. Those where manuals, auto's would easily put them at 3700lbs ss and 3600lbs ws6. If its a 1000ft track its not a quarter your runnin your 320ft off and that would easily make you a 13.2-13.4s car. Real quarters are 1320ft without shutdown this would explain your times.
@The2001cobra That's not the same track, the closest 1/4 mile track is over 3 hours away. 90% of the time I go its to my local track about 15 minutes away. When I ran my 12.7 it was with a 10.6 in the 1000ft. And the weight of a trans am auto is 3517 while the manual is 3495...hell even the convertible auto only weighs 3627. Only takes about 15 minutes to take out an extra 50lbs or so out of that. Look up time slips and see how a 10.6 stacks up in the 1/4
One thing about your Lsx motor cheap cheap cheap to modify. 450hp can be seen with an HCI kit for what 3000 dollars if that. NA cobras and mach's will be twice that to see that kind of power NA. Only way for the 4v NA mods to build power is a 5L bore thats capable of 7.5+K rpm with cams head work and revised intake and you can have 550+fhp motor with a 430+ftq that is 90% avaliable throughtout the rpm band and youll have a low 10s Na 4v with 4.30 gears about 7k if you build
@The2001cobra machs can be cheap too especially if you hunt for a used centri or piece together an eaton swap that will max out on stock internals at 450-460whp. going na you can do midpipe catback intake tune longtubes and have 320-330 and everyone forgets doing a 96-01 cobra intake cam swap because they had better lift .200-.204 vs .184 on stock machs.dot to dot install has been proven for 20rwhp at peak and about 15 throughout the band mutiple times as well as no more falling on face after 5k
I am failing to see what your trying to get at. I built a 01 cobra up and it costs about 7K in motor work to have a 400-450 rwhp NA motor assembly done by myself with machine work sublet cams 1200 block prep 1000 rotating assembly 2000 revised cobra intake 1000 and head work 2000+ depending on port?My point was an LSx motor can do this for half the price.
It will always cost more money to make alike power outta a smaller cube motor example a 281ci mod to a lsx 350+ci motor NA trim. Keeping displacement stock Mod motors can outperform stock displacement Ls1'2's, mod (4v) heads flow more and a stock intake ported or a Fr series intake will outperform any Lsx head or intake combo.
Here's where displacement matters a maxed bored and stroked mod 323 ci motor regardless of head design port or intake work will never draw more air into a cylinder than a lsx motor that can max out a bore and stroke to a 400+ ci motor even with the 2v head design the lsx can pump more air in simple mathmatics. However Forced induction the 100ish+ cube advantage with lsx motors means nothing a 4v mod will make more FI power than a Lsx motor simply because of head design.
@cozzey05 theres videos on here of guys doing just that. stock mach 1's with a good driver or D/R's jump into the 12's easy. Paul Svinicki of Paul's High Performance did it right when they came out. but mach 1's were underrated after the 01 cobra recall & complete revision of the 32 valve & spin around 325-330 - N/A cobras R junk & cant be compaired
Please post correctly 99 cobras had a recall not 01. They had two main problems the intake manifold poor casting, exhaust system restrictions which could knock the hp down by as much as 50hp. This is why there was no 2000 cobra model. The 01 cobra and mach 1 motors are damn near the same 01 cobra had better cams and intake where as the 03-04 mach's used the terminator heads both the 01 cobras and 03-04 machs where underrated not as much as ls1's though.
01 cobras and 03-04 machs cam timings varied greatly any of the vehicles that had a cam timing of 107 degrees had about 30 hp on the others. If any one of them put down near 270hp on a uncorrected dyno then they where degreed at 107 its called human error since all where hand built. Mach's typically have about .2tenths on the 99-01 cobras in the quarter due to the irs on the cobras. The machs for the average driver still takes gears and D/R to hit high 12's as do 01 cobras.
@The2001cobra car and driver test the 99 cobra against the ls1's those were not faster, the 01 cobra's can beat an 01 camaro stock but it would be from driver error in the camaro. Both will run very close, but the ls1 are so underrated in power the cobra's just don't have, a couple of mods and you have a door to door race. Now the mach 1's were never tested against ls1's at least I never found the show but I wouldn't doubt them being able to slightly pull an ls1 car.
Mach 1 and 01 cobra motors where near identical. 01 cobras had better cam profiles and intake while the 03-04 machs had terminator heads. Also, each one of the 01 cobras and machs have different power outputs and anyone that had a cam degree of 107 from the factory was a better performer hand built variations yielded up to a 30 hp gain. Quick way to tell if you got a good one run regular gas in it if she pings then you got a good timed cammer.
@The2001cobra I found two races of and ls1 racing a 01 cobra both modded like , cai and exhaust and the camaro was able to edge the cobra, once again those things were so under rated in power, it just isn't fare. The 01 cobra deserves a mod or two to be even. I really would like to have an 01 cobra but if people around here are wanting over $6000 just for a 99-04 gt I don't see myself getting one. My dream is to do the complete cobra r body and rims, also with a 6 speed swap.
Mach 1's redline at 6800 rpm, it's up there. To the mach 1 owner, love your car bro. I am about to pick up a zinc yellow 03. But the terminator front bumper is overkill
God i love mach 1s they look so awesome, 9/10 times its a drivers race and there almost exactly equal but i have to admit the 1/10 time it goes to ls1 but 4.6 vs 5.7L not bad ;)
Since there are no mods listed, i assume they're both stock? Haha jk. But a list of mods would be nice.
