  • Okay folks.... to me this looks like Joe hasn't really ever thought about exactly what his backstage warm up is.

    Have you??

Me? I like a pint of Stella Artois chased down with a large Irish Whiskey (Bushmill's if I can get one, no ice) and to shoot the breeze with my fellow musicians. It works for me. For anyone to criticize this clip leaves me baffled.

  • so many musicians from new orleans were bangin out classics and flyin under the radar cause they weren't media drivin and shoved down ya throat. the effect that N.O's jazz blues and funk had on the industry was and is unknown to the the common listener. perfect example here, u fuckin clowns dare open ya mouth about ziggy mac. ha ha ha silly fools. I guess Travis barker is in your eyes, the king right? ha ha ha ha comical. chumps learn somethin. we bred different round here podna! :)

  • Second line first!

  • @doctordark are you kidding me??? Do you know who this is???? How ever it is that Zig is playing is how a hall of fame drummer would do it. A drummer that invented a sound, that is copied over and over and Oh yeah, this is the real dude that invented it. You lack the respect bow down to the master? You must post a video of you drumming, I must see how your Interpretation of drumming has evolved? Cissy Strut will make you cry if you are a drummer and is dismissed by fools! I am ashamed of you.

  • @keepdrummin7

Jeez you guys, the circumstances? He's talking at the same time that he's playing, for one thing.

  • no matter what he does or how! on the beat and off the beat , he IS on time my friends, new orleans funk gives you the feel of being behind the beat , and it is!

thats why you feel like a jello and then that leads to mellow and then to feelgood.

  • @keepdrummin7

The truth is that I couldn't care less about your rudiment tree if you can play the music you want to, the way you want to. Technique is simply a tool used to express oneself...anything beyond that is superfluous and good for little outside academia.

  • well that makes up my mind once and for all.

You can see plenty of nobodys do doubles so fast and smooth that it sounds like a machine.

I have also witnessed first hand a well respected drummer play " lazy" on warm up but the hidden trick is to get rid of nerves and relax before the gig.

The proof of the pudding is the playing on stage no the way ole ZIG warms up.

My opinion, too many FLASHCATZ and no enough "feel" players.

  • @keepdrummin7

Haha. Yep, criticize Zigaboo freaking Modeliste on his drumming technique. That's like criticizing Picasso on his painting technique.

  • haha drumduder i couldnt have said it better, ive grown up in new orleans and have played live in the french quarter. zigaboo is an icon with his famous grooves and feel. :)

  • @keepdrummin7 thats just not at all true. developing a good feel for the music is only 10000000000000 times more important than chops. trust, a rock drummer with great chops CANNOT play jazz just becuase he has chops.

  • Ha, some of you seem so young! Ziggy has all he needs, trust me. There are many bad drummers with lot's of technique...These warm ups are about muscles loosening so your wrists and hands can do what your mind and soul wants to do my brothers and sisters!

  • haha drumduder i couldnt have said it better, ive grown up in new orleans and have played live in the french quarter. zigaboo is an icon with his famous grooves and feel. :)

  • @jimp442 amen

  • who gives a shit?

  • Yep I agree that talent AND technique is the ideal combination - but in the case of Zigaboo - or Baker - they are great players, both giants in their own field, so they clearly have enough technique for their needs. Hence I wouldn't personally criticise Zig's technique any more than I would criticise his dress sense - it obviously doesn't hold his playing back...

Some of these guys like Lang and Minneman have phenomenal technique - but minimal impact on music (great clinics, I'm sure :)

  • It is just an advertisement. Guy trying to pay his bills. Just listen to the funk, he has mastered it.

  • He & his band are playing for an audience to entertain them with music. Technique is just a tool. Good technique gives you a bit more facility to express ideas - but by itself is nothing. Many of the really great & influencial Rock drummers had very modest technique (Bonham, Baker, Moon) but great ideas. Baker was a fantastic soloist & rhythm machine - lots of kids today are faster & more technically proficient at exercises - but impress only other drummers brought up to think technique is all.

  • I love the HQ pads!....

  • You are the MASTER!!

  • maybe you should listen to zig's playing with The Meters before you say something stupid about his single and double stroke rolls on a friggin pad in a green room you fool!!!! N'awlins funk is not about stagnant pad work. You show your own immaturity with rediculous comments like this.

  • I'll second that. There's few people on the planet who are as good as playing 'in between the cracks' as Zig

  • he kinda looks like he's drunk when he's doing the doubles

  • he just swings everything!

  • Even his double-stroke roll grooves!!!

  • It's true...singles, doubles -- he makes them musical!

  • swing puro!!!!
