One thing I always wondered about your strains is why I've never seen anyone duplicate your results with your "white" strains. The pics in your advirtisements for "w.widow,elNino" in particular look like they've been dusted in kief. Is there a particular technique that everyone is missing?

Sir Franco, any chance you can advise me on what feed i should use in active hydroponic system. I use canna aqua as my base nutrient and the other canna range, (tricoderma, rhizotonioc, cannazym, pk13/14 & boost accelerator) but still don't seem to be getting PERFECT results. my water ph is fine and cf never out of range. Hey GHSC, what about an Malawi update on your site? After watching this video I was intrigued by the strain you took back, and how things are progressing on a controlled indoor environment. But there's no mention of it at all on your website. 35,000 viewers want an update! :):)

Over one year has gone by since we came back from Malawi after filming the first Strain Hunters documentary. During that awesome trip we were able to recover seeds from several fields of inbred-landraces, representing the true heritage of the Malawi Gold so famous in the 1970s. And now, after working on selection of outstanding individuals for a few months, its time to report on the progress made.

One of the criteria we used to choose the seeds to take back was to only use material from very isolated locations, with no contact with other strains. In these extremely remote areas, plants were able to inbreed for many generations, thus showing the real landrace traits. When we retrieved the seeds from the different locations we visited, we noticed the little difference between the plants in each field. Every field had a good representation of the 5-6 phenos of the same landrace.

This shows how the landrace has been able to preserve itself through the years, in the whole area, in a uniform way. We planted most of the seeds we were able to bring back, and we identified the same 6 phenotypes we saw in the fields. During the growth phase we took a few backup clones from each numbered plant.

Then we flowered them all to identify and select the 3 most outstanding individuals for each phenotype. The selection was based on vigor, desired plant traits and bud/resin formation. We also took into account the intensity of smell and the general look of the single plant as a whole. Once harvested, we dried and cured the 18 selected plants (3 per each of the 6 phenos) and finally had a very interesting week of smoking sessions to test the final product.

Needless to say, it was a great week, high as a kite does not even begin to describe it... After extensive debate, the best single female individual for each of the 6 phenos was selected. We had our 6 mothers.

Males plants were also numbered and backed up in clone form, and the 6 fastest flowering males with the shortest internodes and the most vigour were selected as fathers.

So we ended up with 6 mothers and 6 fathers to play with, now starts the real fun!

At the moment we are busy making a large amount of seeds using the selected plants. We are making seeds crossing the selected fathers with all 6 phenos mothers (6x6 matrix). The large amount of seeds produced will be planted (the whole 36 batches), and we will flower them to select the best female out of each of the 6 phenos. This selected female will be then used to produce feminized seeds for our sativa-freak customers.

This will be a 14-16 weeker guys, so be ready for a long one.... but it will be the REAL LANDRACE, untouched, just selected and feminized.

Its going to take at least another year, maybe a year and a half, before the feminized original Malawi Gold from Green House Seed Company hits the markets and the various events worldwide. But when it happens, its gonna be the return of a lost treasure.
