The Toshiba Satellite P500

It is a lemon. I am on my second one, they gave me a credit after the first P500. I have had the current one for a year and it was at the repair depot 3 or 4 times before it was even a year old. Nothing but problems. Could be why they completely discontinued the P500 model.

guys - what are the speakers like on this laptop? I had a Satellie series laptop years ago, and the sound was really good.

THe Quosmio series I heard have real good speakers, are the speakers on the Satellite P500 good sounding? I'm after one which don't sound like a built in ipod speaker :)

i have this laptop. had it for about 6 months now. dropped it from about 4 feet while operating. still works great today. 12 cell battery it came with is still great. i dont regret buying this at all.

This thing is amazing!!But any one else having trouble hooking this up to a big screen TV the Hdmi output glitches the TV think it's called REGZA(HDMI Control)it has to go back there's a defect on it the tech said....be careful

I had a Satellite model, It had a catastrophic hardware failure, 2 weeks into its operation.. Toshiba refused to repair it reguardless of the warrenty and I did nothing to it

@roxblue5 It can be a little hefty and unwieldy when I'm walking around with it a lot, but for me, I only have to carry it around a college campus in a bag so it's not bad. (If anyone's having trouble finding a bag for this go to Amazon and search "18 inch laptop bag". First result is the one I got and the best deal.)

I really wanted the LED keyboard but i'd have to upgrade the graphics controller which is an extra $95 + the actual keyboard which is $45...guess thats not gonna happen. Anyway, anyone know what the "edge-to-edge display" is? Is it just a screen protector or something?

@ronicKing are you 10 years old? a desktop is of 4-5 different components , which includes its own monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and a 50 pound monster that sit under your desk.

Can u customize this to have the Cosmio features? I don't like the Cosmio look. If it has options ddr3 memory, nvidia 250m, bigger hard drive, I would get one.

I don't think so. I just custom made one on Toshiba's website. The best graphics card option was Nvidia's 230m with 1gb of dedicated ddr3 memory. For ram ddr3 wasn't an option. I chose 4gb of ddr2 and I'll add another 4gb. A blue ray drive cam free and I added a backlit keyboard. The best processor option is the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9600 if your willing to add $350 for it..

i just bought the quad core version of this, bloody quick, 1 issue, the sound is stuffed, always on auto volume...realy noticable!, i managed to fix it though however i dont know how i did it, toshiba said they are releasing a driver for the issue...
