@Yupyusuf ABS may decrease stopping distance when in comparison to full wheel lock, But threshold braking (controlled brake force, without full wheel lock) has an even shorter stopping distance than ABS.
So, I guess what that person was saying is that in the hands of a semi-skilled person a car without ABS will stop sooner than a car with ABS.
@Hyeclasscomps it really doesn't though. if you've ever watched a wheel with ABS in slow motion and if you know anything about it, you'll realize it lets the tire just barely lock up then completely releases the brake. you lose way more of your stopping power than knowing the proper amount of brake force to apply
@DocUnsane Yeah, but if you have EBD, it can brake wheels individually, so if you are with two wheels on asphalt and two wheels on dust, you can brake better, cause EBD will match the brakes and the car won't spin, without that (EBD) you can't brake wheels individually, even if you are a professional driver, does not exist a pedal for each wheel hehehehe. I live in Brazil, most of the roads are tiny and no coasting, just some dust and gravel at the sides.Thanks.
@burnout8488 the demonstration was meant to show that ABS can help save your steering capabilities. when your wheels are locked up, steering the wheels will not change the direction of your car.
Long story short. ABS > stupid people. NON ABS > non stupid people. ABSent minded people use ABS

Stupid...threshold braking gives shorter distance...with abs your tires still like up for short instances....my opinion tho..

I read someone say ABS increases stopping distance. Well sir will you please google static and kinetic friction?

@DocUnsane Even threshold braking isn't enough. ABS gives the MAXIMUM amount of stopping power without locking up the tires.

So the car with ABS had longer stopping distances? Yes.

@Alex050796 This is true. However, its hard to ignore that ABS actually increases stopping distance! (but most people do ignore it)

Is this guy implying that the RX's competitors don't have ABS?!?!?!
bg1379 1 year ago
@bg1379 i don't think so, because almost all the cars these days have abs.
