  • Just wanna thank the boys across the pond, You are a rod of steel.

  • As a child I heard this song half a century ago on a Canadian Country-themed TV program called "The Tommy Hunter Show." I had never forgotten it and it pleases me to hear it again. Tommy recited it on his program, but this is the first time I learned that Tex Ritter actually composed it. Thanks for the memories.

  • the song is wrong add up the spots its 364.jack is 11,queen is 12,king is 13

  • @pete1998ful They might be counting the ace as one.

  • i can remember this song when i was a little girl

  • Wow that was awesome! I new about the 4 suits and 52 cards in a deck but for it to relate to religion that was awesome! Thanks for posting the vid.

  • Man thats deep right there

  • This was my grandmother's cousin. I heard he was very good person. :P I wish i would have got to meet him.

  • @MattDazeTv In 80 years, I met him on a couple of occasions, I have never heard an unkindly word against him. I believe he was indeed a kind and honorable man.

  • They even let the soldier keep his deck on him when he was shot the next morning.

  • It's not so much a song. It's more of a prayer. Simply beautiful. If you're not religious, that fine. But it's still a brilliant and beautiful piece.

  • I love this song.

  • great song brings back a lot of old times

  • So beautiful, makes me cry every time! I remember my very much loved grandad shedding a tear over this! Beautiful.

  • i didn't understand why the Jack is the devil

and why the devil has his place among all the other good things he mentioned before

the Jack or Knave describe either a common man a noble or a knight

none of them reminds me of the devil

  • @MartianSanta According to the Bible, Satan was the prettiest angel in Heaven before what ever happened to cause him to get thrown out..

  • @MartianSanta perhaps the Jack is looked as a prince, you have a handsome prince, who is spoiled and gets what he want's and thus betrays the king like Satan had done to God, but or it could be just that's how he remembers it, idk just my theory

  • Ahhhhh,ol' Tex.

  • I remember this from my childhood - loved it then - and still do.

    owlman49

  • @rhala1960 T Texas Tyler wrote it in 1948. This is not the original. Tex Ritter also done it without music.

  • A nice recording if you take into account that playing cards in church is not an offence of the articles of war. The sargent would probably be tossed in the stockade for being so stupid.

  • Wonderful

  • very clever and a true story this is told of a real soldior who had only a deck of cards and used them as a bible brill way

  • outstanding

  • i never thought about cards in this way. there is a reason for everything according to God, there are no mistakes. may all our servicemen and women be blessed by this video. people should look for the good in everything, even those we do not understand. who would have thought about a simple deck of cards having such a meaning, God bless you all.

  • Deck of cards is a rare classic no doubt.

  • @Pentagonshark666 please share this with all your friends,
