  • 1) its 100% legal to jailbreak

    2) its easy as fuck no adays

    3) the warrenty is crap anyway

  • @pspheaven I have since jailbroken my first generation iPod Touch.

  • Just a question, u seem like a nice fella but is legality such a big issue for you because of morals or just because it's that persons work jw

  • @dingers12345 Morals, but remember when this was recorded, this was before the courts decided Jailbreaking was okay.

  • do NOT jailbreak its poo and no w

  • @thequietmachine That iPod's battyer is dead (I gotta charge it) - and I like it. I may put Android on it if they ever stabilize it.

  • It's legal now do it.

  • I would suggest jailbreaking it. it is not illegal, although there are illegal things available on it. If you decide after you jailbreak it that you dont like it, you can simply restore in iTunes, whitch will unjailbreak the device. The difference between jailbreaking an linux is that, when jailbreaking, a new actual firmware is not installed, while with linux it would be. hope this helps and atm, the 4.0 jailbreak is very unstable so i would wait on that one.

  • well rockbox is debian based

  • @kilr153 Interesting. :) I tried Debian once, I can't remember why I didn't care for it. Probably something to do with audio drivers, but I can't remember.

  • @rml695 I aslo audio issues using almost any Debian based os including Ubuntu (which i use) and it does bother me very much because music is a big part my life so i hav to Dual boot

  • @kilr153 since my last comment i have installed rockbox and love it, I also forgot to mention that I actually use Ubuntu with uses the Debian Kernel and i still hav issues with audio and audio playback

  • son...son....son.... u r a gump u look lime a big time nerd how u not gonna jailbreak ur ipld cuz of legality issues u r the biggest loser ive ever seen n u look lime a cross eyed toad lls but foreal son stop bein a by the book bitch u dont gotta download the illegal shit if u wanna b scared about it but jailbreaj is love u can even get porn apps which im sure youll need like shit lmaooooo

  • @bowiekid787 Note the time when this was posted. I have since jailbroken my 1st gen iPod Touch.

  • fuck tha police.

  • @ptrakk fuck you

  • voorhies88 is a douche bag and a half

  • not to be rude but wtf is wrong with your eyes?

  • @Voorhies88 I have low vision. I can't see out of my right eeye, and wihtout my glasses, my vision is blurry out of my left eye.

  • I think Ipod's OS is based off of OS X which is UNIX but is technically UNIX-like because it isn't licensed. But Linux developers have yet to run an Ipod's functions through its LINUX kernel type in Linux in youtube and you'll see as of now the kernel boots but theres no compiling of anything, no GUI, nothing. But in due time someone's dedication will change that. So no Jailbreaking is NOT Linux kernel based there are emulators of the Kernel for developing though which are available throughCydia

  • The code implemented for jailbreaking is UNIX-like i meant but is exactly like the ipod touch os which is officially UNIX certified it has nothing to do with linux or the linux kernel being adapted to the ipod touch/phone

  • If you jail break your iPod you can always un jailbreak it by going to iTunes on you computer, with you iPod plugged in and click restore. And it deletes all you memory and you will have a brand new iPod

I gave this video a five star nice

  • I'm sorry if this comment is a bit late, but I have all the answers you need. No, Jailbreaking an iPhone or iPod Touch is NOT illegal, but it IS frowned upon by Apple Inc.

To answer your question about if content on Installer (now Cydia) is illegal, yes. Some content on Cydia is indeed illegal, but these sources do not come with Cydia - you would have to install them yourself. For example - Installous is generally a free version of the app store. Any apps for free.

    Hope that helped :)

  • Thanks for the info. I hear the main reason people jail break is for things like themes and better usability of the device like multi-tasking, better organization of apps, etc.

  • That's why I jailbroke my iPhone :)

  • @rml695 wont need that anymore thanks to version 4.0 software

  • r u serious there is gonna be linux 4 iphone!?

i am assuming that ther will be no application that installs other applications but i could be wrong

and it mite be like a boot camp 4 iphone

it also will prbly be much more safe to run linux than 2 jailbreak

  • All I can tell you about is that iPhone Linux is command-line driven at this time, and lacks any on-device keyboard or touch support. Right now you can issue commands through the host system. However, I THINK a lot of the standard command lines protocols work (ls, man, rm, etc), so you may be able to run command line applications, but don't quote me on that.

  • I agree with you. I'm getting the 32 gig though so I can't do it anyway, but I don't think I would even if I could! :) Great vids!!

  • nice

  • nice video

  • can you tell me how to copy videos and photos and music from my ipod touch back to my computer please

  • E-mail me as to what is going on.

  • I will say this though. You can select what gets synced, but manual drag & drop (as well as USB Mass Storage Mode) is NOT supported!

  • thanks for replying i just wanted to got a photo off my ipod touch

  • I've never understood why changing the software on a device YOU own could possibly be illegal. Yeah I can understand warranty becoming void but you own the device, you should legally be allowed to do what you wish with it. It's not illegal to smash it on a counter, as long as you own it, all that will happen is your warranty will be void and you have wasted your money. its not illegal to buy a VHS of star wars and record over it why should jailbreaking be illegal? its just pointless

  • Technically, you only have a license to the software, so they (Apple in this case) can pretty much do what they want with it.

I agree with you though, if you spend money on something like that, you should have a lot more to say.

  • linux? well, hacking isnt illegial. think of it like CUSTOMIZING

  • Who cares about the DMCA? That crap is so generic that they COULD file a suit against you if you made a copy of a CD and gave to the wrong person. (As is) right now - it is technically illegal to make back-up copies of your OWN DVDs. If you own it - you own it I say.

  • if you use an apple is like you are in a jail.Worst even than Microsoft. Why not to buy an another MP3 Player or a cellphone with MP3 Playback. What so special with iTunes?

  • oh you will not be able to jail break if you have itunes 8.2 apparently that's what i heard once agen great vid

  • you can uninstall, then downloaad an older version.

  • i dont own a ipod touch but i think the apps that you allready have on there will work after it is jail broken. if you do decide to jailbreak the ipod i dont think you will have any trouble with your tech skills. nice video
