  • Why am I thinking the lyrics go "so they rode on his head in their blurry on key"?Not "furry donkey".I guess I could be wrong.

  • they're so bad at lip syncing lol.

  • Townshend worrys me ,all his songs seem to say someting",Pictures of Lily" "Happy jack" and the deaf dumb and blind kid

  • I was like Jack, glad i was too.. if i had been aware of what was going on around me(thanks dad- who ever you are- and mom we wont go there) and all the awfulness that surrounded me growing up. Once i figured out that i could make it all go away i would have, but never did..

  • What I like most about this song are the striking drumbeats...

  • @Bernard5323 There are parts in this song where Moon actually follows the melody of the song. The best example of this are the last few seconds. My favorite part of the drums on this over all is the section that starts at about 1:18. Especially live versions of it. Listen to Live at Leeds and you'll know what I mean.

  • how does entwistle make that cool thumping sound?

  • Why arent they playing their 60s splattered punk shit, smashing breaking blowing shit up? Because of Mods?

  • Pure classic, just listen to it!

  • wow look.. Keith Moon sitting up nice and straight

  • The only ones

  • this song rocks

  • One of the best lineups of all time.

  • @rodycaz Greatest lineup.

  • this is a brilliant song l think

  • awesome footage! but i hate that werid thing at the corner at the end.......

    anyways I luv the video!

  • great vid~thanks for posting

  • I'm still not sure about these indecipherable lyrics.

  • The Who had an original sound.

  • Simple Jack?

  • "So they rode on his head in their furry donkey." ~ one of the most bizarre lyrics in a bizarre decade

  • We Are The Mods!

  • Gotta love Roger's smile <3

  • when keith hits the cimbal it looks like hes scared its going to bite him

  • dont know why but when i first heard this song, I thought that happy jack was about a giant

  • Its my guess that they are lip syncing in this filmed performance. Anyone else agree? They don't show Keith crashing the symbols. He holds the sticks funny, and that's the album track version. Some of the back up vocals they aren't singing. And they cut the song abruptly at the end right before the "I saw ya."

  • @dieselcalhoun yeah i totally agree dude. if you watch the kids are alright movie they juxtapose a lot of actual performances with lipsynched ones, and when its lipsynched its always the same deal, john looking even more disinterested than usual and holding the bass awkwardly, keith "playing" like he's afraid of breaking a stick, and roger just kinda sulking there looking around. they're way less into it when they're lipsynching, and relaly who could blame them

  • GOD BLESS KEITH MOON ! ! ! !

  • Basically a song about making fun and being cruel to a slow kid, but it never gets to him because he`s slow and is just plain ignorant. Why aren`t pop songs more like this now?

  • @dropd26

Dude, you're taking it the wrong way, each one of us should be like Jack, everything and everyone is against him, but no one can't prevent him from being happy.

  • @Villalistico180 Well either way we`ve come across the plot of someone who isn`t letting others get to them.

  • The band started in 1965 and 2 of the guys in the band died and they are still a band thats whats cool about them

  • they couldnt prevent jack from feeling happy <333 i love that line!

  • Shame that they don't show much of "Moon the Loon". He must go down as one of the best drummers ever..

  • hey, this is the first song i heard today, and any day that opens up witth Happy Jack has to be a good day, cheers and beeirs

  • The best MOD band ever. Check out "The Creation" also.

  • This song is addictive. Can't blame it, though, because it was made by a great band.

  • great performance but not enough loon footage.

  • mods rule scooters for ever The WHO are Kings

  • Doesn't get a whole lot better than this. Too bad the camera does not always focus on the right musician. At least, Entwistle is part of the picture, as ooposed to being out-of-frame as in some later films.

  • Yeah, the Who are a mixture of out of frame and in frame-ness. Enthwhistle included.

The modern Who are great, and I'm glad that they still kick it.

Ain't the same without Entwhistle's high harmonies, thrubbing bass. And the Moon's chaotic and yet sympathetic personality.

They were some band, when they were together.

  • 1:11 rogers epic smile!

  • wow great video, tks for posting

  • they shouldve shown more keith in this video i want to see him do the crazy parts on his drums

  • He was miming here, I don't think he'd bother putting any actual effort into his drumming. Besides, he's having too much fun obviously NOT drumming, check the "I'm a Boy" vid on the sidebar here, you get a few more shots of Moonie playing the crowd there.

  • oh dang i didnt know it wasnt live

  • It can be a little hard to tell. I'm an aspiring musician so I pay more attention to the technical aspects of things than the layman might. You can pick up on how the vocals are double-tracked here, more than one take layered on top of each other to thicken things...harmonies are a bit too perfect, if the Live at Leeds version is any indication....and of course the guitars aren't plugged in. ;-)

  • haha i didnt even notice that

  • what a group! my very first concert at the little theatre in downtown kansas city, missouri. they never needed the gimmick of destroying their instruments. someone's bad idea.

  • It was 31 years ago today we've lost Keith Moon.

  • ...hard to believe it's been that long, saw Pete & Roger in Vancouver a couple of years ago....they looked good...and they played well.

  • The Live at Leeds version of Happy Jack is definitely the best. Obviously there isn't any leeds video footage but the 3 hit singles medley on disk 1 is awesome, Substitute into Happy Jack into I'm a Boy. They play all 3 songs flawlessly.

  • funny song and great drumming from the legendary rock drummer keith moon!!!!!!

  • bonzo wuz here rockon!!!!!!!!!!!! and all that early tube amp blow out anolog circuitrry an all that ,like it was broken ear drum eaven it was ...ha ha ha

  • They never played this song well live anyway. Check the live vids, they all sound lame. This studio version is best.

  • are you kidding? the coliseum was the best version the who ever played of this song

  • Where is it? Produce it and let me hear it.

  • fuck you piece of shit! The Who is great mother fucker

  • cameras were to shitty to record a good performance back then especially for the who because they were so loud the mics cant handle it well. cunt

  • damn pre recorded VIDS!

  • best fashion ever

  • a donkey, with pete who knows..humour

  • Anyone know what this song is about? I have always wondered

  • There is a guy named Jack and he is a friend of The Who. His nick name was Happy Jack. Pete wrote this for "Happy Jack". I think Jack wrote a book or two about his friendship with band of 50 yrs. I think he has a website and has thousands of photos.

  • Genial = 5 Sterne !!!!

  • Tolles Lied.

  • was keith moon hitting the drums drum sticks at the 1:20s on purpose?

  • this is not a live performance. Anyway, Keith did such things live very often, he plays the base drum and does something totally different with his sticks. He is the best drummer, and the best clown

  • EVERYTHING Keith did was intentional!

  • Mimed performance? :-/

  • Cool bass guitar playing by John

  • Cool band...long lasting band !! great track ..

  • Great tune! They're all so adorable here! RIP John and Keith.

  • john died?

  • Unfortunately, yes. He passed in June of 02 from a heart attack brought on by cocaine and an old heart condition.

  • That's really sad.

  • I wasn´t aware of that! He was an extraordinary virtouse on the bass, as seen on the solo in "My generation"

  • As seen in just about everything he ever played... In fact Pete Townsend once said thet Entwhistle was the Lead Guitarist for the Who...

  • rogers looking good here! XD

  • i love the who

  • WOW 1:12!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How about 1:40?

  • aww your right john is sooo adorable!

  • AW.....memories of childhood. My older brother was playing this 45 when my mother asked, "Who's that?" My brother said, "The Who". Mom replied, "No, who is that?" We laughed about it for years.

  • i think this is playback

  • terrific,thank you

  • 1:12

    priceless smile

  • man r u serious?!?!?! I LOVE THE WHO!!!

they r my favorite band. i just posted that comment cuz i loved roger's smile!!

    wtf is ur problem

  • @javabeansalmon just wondering what does "they rode on his head in their furry donkey" mean...

  • Roger's so adorable! :)

  • ???

  • ???????? wats wiv u man

  • sorry, i didn't understand your reply ?

  • THE WHO IS SO AWESOME

  • a lot of bands did send-ups in these shows, Nirvana, Green Day and etc.....

  • this tune is undanceable yet the duffuses try anyway. what a lot of stiffs!

  • THIS IS A HILARIOUS VIDEO! especially the part where roger tries to mime but they cut to him early and he just smirks. pete looks like a goof but he realizes it. great video haha :D
