  • Hi scooby,

can you tell me if the neck also needs support when doing hyperextensions for back or are the neck muscles stronger in the other direction?

other than that .. alles klar! :-)

Thanks for your always informative videos!

  • It seems like you're getting a great amount of tan, Scooby. Hope the swimming time was good!

  • how do you work out your side abs

  • Wow, right question XXdragOnbLOrdXX! I didnt even have to slip you a twenty to ask that leading question! Watch the video I'm uploading right now, it will be available in about 4 hours.

  • Hey Scooby, i am 14 years old and i' ve been doing your "get in shape" programme but i'm already in a decent shape. Should I do workouts in stead of your "get in shape" programme or should i keep doing this? And is my age a problem?

  • hey veho544, I'm working on a teen workout program video just for people like yourself. It will be out in a few weeks.

  • Lol, "Alles clar?" I don't get that .. :D

  • @Mrblackmystery "Alles klar?" is german and means "all right?"

  • Ah, well thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • lol nice mini you

  • hey, i have gotten the first two at the top, and was wondering how to work out the lower abs,

  • hey bestcoop14, you can do v-ups for lower abs. Or even hip flexors, just look those exercises up here on youtube and you should get some hits. They are pretty easy and very effective, just dont forget you have to change your ab workout ever 8 weeks roughly.

  • im sorry, i forgot Bicycles also target the lower abs pretty well. Matalessi2112 is right as well, you cant target the lower abs without working out everything at least to some degree.

  • bicycles video is coming tomorrow!

  • leg raises might stress the lower portion slightly more, but u cant target the lower abs with out working the whole area. Just keep at fat loss and ab workouts and the rest will show.

  • Your accent was hilarious. Love the video, by the way... Showing us, once again, that you have brains, as well as brawn.

  • no way that plate was 25 lbs lol

and you can trust me that this really works

  • Hey scooby, i was wondering. When I do my crunches, do I flex my abs when I go up? I don't really feel the burn when to my abs when I do my crunches but at the same time I don't feel any strains to my neck or back so i think my posture is correct.

  • cheers for the tips Scooby mate .top man !!

  • 5 stars

  • Thanks scooby for your amazing video's. They've helped loads while completing my workouts and I'd say thanks to your tips and your website I've made many gains through weight-training. Firstly I've gained a stone over a year: although this is not 100% muscle its still largely that. A stone to me- a hard-gainer is a huge amount so thanks so much, without your help I doubt I would have made as much progress!

  • lets vote for scooby!!!!

  • Yay more scooby videos! :D

  • WILSON

  • Alles klar

  • haha, i like your hat

  • Absolutely correct. I've only ever done work outs the way scooby explains

  • Thank you for posting this video it helped so much!!!

  • have to comment before he disables

  • I knew what you were getting at before you got to the point. BUT I had no idea there was a difference whether I held my weights behind my head vs on my chest/above my chest. Thanks for that!

  • feel like im in school agian lol

  • im entering your contest and also you have a tablet on your webstie of fail machiens what do you think of the iron gym

  • dude scooby you've got the smarts of einstein and the body of schwarzeneggar. traits a lot of people wish they could have.... like me :( lol.

  • Lol when you throw the head.

  • The mini-scoobs made me laugh. You're too gangster, Scoobie....too gangster. LOLOLOL

  • i should commenet before he disables it :)

  • The quality (not picture quality) of your videos is still great, nice job scooby

  • Hey Scooby,

Thanks so much for your vids and advice, it's all been a great help. I'm having trouble using AskScooby forum-

I've come a long way in the past year or so strength wise. However, as I progress in gaining chest and tricep strength, I am running into a problem: I get pain in my shoulder joints about halfway through my workouts, typically when I'm doing dumbell presses. It makes it hard to complete the workout with good form and full effort with this pain. Any ideas?

    A fan,

    Tyler

  • great advice scooby, thanks alot. :)

one question, i noticed you dont do sit-ups and it seems like its because they can strain your back. is that the reason?

  • when you double the distance the force you need is NOT the double but 4 times more difficult.

Ask Hans he knows better.. :P

  • last day to comment!!! scooby don't do it, we promise we won't make flame wars, right guys?

  • very useful im glad you made this video

  • deine Videos sind grossartig!

  • WILLSSOOOOOOOOOON!!!!

    with scoooooby-caaaap

very funny. thnx for the video, it was very good!

  • Ja, alles klar, Scoob! ;)

  • Alles klar :)))) Das Video war mal wieder richtig cool, Scooby! Weiter so!

    Viele Grüsse aus Köln

  • Hey I am really appreciative of your videos. It is great to get these tips and I have begun getting into shape more after seeing your video's as they have given me the knowledge and motivation.

  • I love how you adress these small issues and not just the major topics. Thanks again for all the videos.

  • loved the model haha nice tips again

  • hey wud it be the same if u taped a weight to ur chest and the did crunches with it then if u were holding it behind ur hed

  • man scooby u are the best....i was wondering wat is ur job

  • wow 3 days 12,581 views, that better than some music videos haha

what is that latest thing you say Scooby, sounds german or something

  • Scooby is German ;d

  • it is....it means "all clear?"

  • Hey Scooby. How do you get the cut line on the pelvic area? like what exercises can you do?

  • running works well

  • Thanks man. Quite helpful.

  • Much respect to you scooby. I been doing your program for a month or 2 now. And I am starting to look at my self. And I am seeing some sexy abs and decent looking pecks starting to develop. You are the man scooby !!! much respect. I feel so cocky though. Like one of those kids that always looks at there muscles and flexes.. Thats how happy I am . That I see some abs and pecks starting to develop. :)

  • I love these videos so much.

  • Scooby you have transformed my life.

  • More Great advice thanks scoob

  • you rock, man ! perfect and sympathetic explanation. why you often speak german?

i am german and always smile when i hear that.

  • Scoobs you are the best, i have asked before, and averyone is a chef! just like working out, all kinda ideas, if you can though PLEASE help me get me rid of love handles, i have a slightly dodgy back, i do crunches 20 a day morning and night, but i cant get rid of them, any good exercise that should help is appreciated!

  • you have to do cardio. crunches don't get rid of fat. you have to run, walk, swim, and etc for atleast 20 minutes

  • you have to do more than 20 crunches, u should do 4 to 5 sets of crunches a day and in each set do as many as you can....also you need to watch your diet (like limiting fatty calories from it) and finally you need to do cardio everyday or every other day for at least 20 minutes. swimming and running are the best ways to do so

  • You can't spot train the love handles to go away. Watch your diet and DO MORE CARDIO. The rest is up to your body.

  • Ales clarrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! :D

You are one hell of a engenieer ! :D

  • Great video. One point I want to add if I may. With the hands behind the head, keep the elbows on the same plane as your ears, instead of in front of them. This isolate the abs more.

  • rofl 00:57 - 01:00

  • Awesome video Scooby! Good Work shutting those "hands-in-front-of-your-face-while-doing-crunches" guys up!

  • quick kind of related question - i know u prefer doing crunches to situps but r sit ups just as effective? i feel like i dont get as gd of a workout when i do crunches because of the small range of movement

  • Sit ups do more work on your hip muscles. If you do crunches really slowly, they become way more effective.

  • i thought sit ups only worked out ur hips if u had some1 or something holding ur feet down. if u have nothing holding down ur feet do they still work more on ur hips?

  • yeah, I think so, becaue the pivot point is down by your hips, a opposed to crunches, where the back curls, so your abs do way more work

  • the muslces in ur hips are called hip fexers

  • Great video as always Scooby!

  • Hey scoob, what's your take on full body workouts?

  • ''the head balanced on top of the head"....

  • I also don't like any exercise where my hands or weight or machine cushion is pressed up against my chest because I feel like it restricts my breathing. Even slight pressure on my diaphragm makes me feel weaker & uncomfortable.

  • Are sit ups good for abs, and what is the correct position for these?

  • check his other videos

  • Question for you scooby... I do pull ups like everyone, started out with 4x10 (bad form) after not too long I did 4x10 with proper form and now I'm at 3x15-1x~10 so I'm progressing... still; I do not feel my lats after I did them or while I do them. Unlike any other workout where I can clearly feel the muscle I'm working on. What gives? Is it too subtle to feel or am I doing something wrong?

  • i get slow biceps growing and forearms

but chest and triceps they much faster grow

and i have one question do you can eat white bread?or halfwhite? im not eating that but i asked because its yummy lol and whit what oil make calamary?

  • how many lbs are there in 1 kilogram?

  • 2.2lbs in a kilogram

  • wilson!!!! haha quality videos scooby, keep up the good work

  • err scobby doo how to get a 8 pac fast ? i every day run 10km can that help me scooby ?

  • Scooby is TOP GEEZER, FANTASTIC!

trying to get rid of belly, but hate cardio.

  • very nice.....but whats with the 'undersclamped'

  • Hmm, thanks Scooby!

  • WHat Scooby says here is compleetly correct.

I have discovered this myself, and if anyone is in doubt... Just try it out yourself ;)

  • Good tips Scoob!

  • i just read something that says that lower heart rate cardio burns more fat but higher cardio burns more overall calories. if i want to get rid of some fat and try and get those 6 pack abs should i do low intensity or high intensity cardio?

  • If Calories IN < Calories OUT, you will lose fat. All the voodoo and gimmicks in the world can't change biology, or physics.

That said, you'll likely be able to burn more calories OVERALL, and thus, more fat, if you do lower heart rate activities, because you'll burn out faster on high cardio, and not do it as long.

I can only do about 15-30 minutes on a bike where i'm keeping my HR around 155 (aerobic target), but if I go easier (135 - 140) I can go for hours.

  • ROFL at the head droop

  • I thought that was pretty funny myself, I had trouble keeping a straight face.

  • Hi Scooby. Nice vid.

From watching the video, "Bulking up and Gaining muscle" earlier, I began to think that since I'm a 19 year old ectomorph(I gain muscle with difficulty) and work out only 3 times a week, I would only gain about 1 or 2 pounds of muscle in the year. So is there any hope for me, or will I have wait until I'm older?

    Thanks alot.

  • hey everybody hey scooby i have a question i work out wit weight every other day and take a protien shake called musclemilk every other day sometimes the next day i dont feel sore but i know my work outs are good becausei end up sweating like a pig :) i would like to know is it ok to work out every day and talk the protein shake every day if im not sore

  • In some of Scoobys vids he says something about having a protein every 3 or 4 hours after workout.

  • I think sweating could be more indicative of local temperature than effort. It also depends on the type of workout you're doing eg: cardio vs lifiting.

You don't need anyone else to tell you when you're getting a good workout in, you just know. I can generally gauge the intensity of a workout by the way my muscles feel the next day, and in my experience, protein shakes or even something as simple as a powerbar immediately after a workout can greatly reduce soreness and recovery time.

  • musclemilk has WAY too much fat, read the nutritional label if you see it in the store. For a better alternative make your own protein shake, it will be cheaper, lower in calories, and healthier. There is a recipe on my website.

  • i knew it i looked at it and was wondering thanx hey scooby can you or anybody else answer the other part of the question if i dont feel sore the next day can i work out with weights again the next day

  • No. Check Scooby's vid called 'No Pain, No Gain'.

For the quick answer: even though you do not feel soreness or DOMS, your muscles are still damaged and need time (and protein) to recover. Working out the next day means basically means you gain nothing from the previous training and it may even result in overtraining if you are not careful.

This all assuming you did work out properly though.

  • thanks man

  • From wating that video the thought of eating 5 high protein meals a day seems a bit impractical to me. I thought the whole idea was to get the protein source during or imeadiatly after exercise and then take a long rest for the muscle to repair. That would at least make some difference that I'm doing that.... right? I also thought that the protein had to be in the form of whey.

    Once again, Thanks

  • Protein is protein, as long as it''s complete, like Whey or meat or fish. The reason whey is a good source, is that it is low in calories and fat, so you don't overload on those things while trying to get the recommended protein.

Your body doesn't just use protein immediately after a workout. You PLAN to build in the gym, you build on the couch. The day or two after a heavy workout session is when your body actually rebuilds the broken muscles, stronger, which is what causes gains.

  • Hey Scooby, I have an Important question for you. I have a very nice gym at my school and the caretaker of our gym is an amatuer bodybulder, or atleast he should be haha. Anyways, he said that protein shakes are the most expensive piss you'll ever take, that your body can only take in so much protien an excess amounts get absorbed into urine. What's your opinion about this? Also I was shocked to see you're an engineer, I don't think alot of people would look at you and think ENGINEER! haha :-)

  • Hey bobby123greenhalgh, its true. Those mega-protein-bomb shakes with mega doses of protein are a waste because your body can only use so much protein at once and the rest becomes "very expensive piss". Not only that, your organs have to work very, very hard to get rid of the excessive protein. Bodybuilders need small doses of protein every 2-3hrs

  • Also, would I be correct in saying that if you do gain the muscle that you then have work out for life because if you decide to stop at any point it would turn to fat.

Thanks for listening and all the great info; regards, Floyd

  • Well first If if u stop for a long period of time than yes u would start to re undo what u have done. The point is that u dont have to work out as much when u hit your goal.

  • Muscle never "turns to fat" just as fat never "turns to muscle". However, if you stop working out, you will lose muscle mass, as your body metabolizes what it no longer requires. Use it or Lose it.

that said, maintenance of existing mass is far easier than gaining more mass.

  • Hey scooby, what excersize should i do for man boobs ? and 5 stars bro your videos are amazing.

  • Arkbark, as scooby says there is no such thing as targeted weight loss, you have to lower total body fat to become leaner in the man boob dept.

  • Yep, as bobby123greenhalgh said, the only way to get rid of man-boobs is by eating less and doing more cardio. Please see my website for more info on man-boobs, its under "Health | Man-boobs"

  • thats basic physics tbh.....i.e. everyone should know it

  • The illustration doesn't really apply considering most sit ups are done on the ground, where neck support is given by the mat or whatever it is that you're doing sit ups on.

  • wen ur going up

  • Sit-ups are not an ab exercise, they are a hip exercise. I have never, and never will, suggest to anyone that they do situps. Crunches are king with abs and the head only touches the floor lightly and briefly (if at all).

  • dude those are so not 25 pound weights, how big are your hands!?!?!

  • dude, are you serious??? Of course they are not 25 pound plates. HES USING THEM AS AN EXAMPLE! come on dude, wheres the common sense????

  • wow you think those are 25 pounds thats 50 pounds when theres two im sure he wouldnt hold 50 pounds on a stick like that

  • really? it was just for example.. you knew that though.. riiight

  • I do have big hands but those weights are not iron, they are actually kryptonite which is much denser than iron.

  • my personal traiiner

  • so that's why in ab machines it's easier with the same amount of weight if the weight is on your chest rather than behind your head. Thanks Scooby!

  • 5 stars but are those really 25 pound weights

  • Yes those are really 25lb weights, they are kryptonite which is much denser than iron. :)

  • depends on the person and the workout. If youre of the older generation (60 upwards) then it tends to be less strenuous exercise periods but maybe do 2 periods a day instead of 1 big workout. You shouldnt suffer permanent injuries from a workout. Any pain during an exercise and youre doing it wrong. You should feel an exercise working, but pain means something is wrong and you should stop or change the exercise to something slightly different.

  • I disagree with your so called facts. Exercising isnt gonna be fun nor should you not feel some slight pain. Weight lifting is all about form and pushing yourself. If you are a basic exerciser that doesnt want to increase in size but just wants to slightly tone themselves then id say go with no pain and slight burn toward the end of your set. But if you are a extreme lifter like myself that likes to push yourself from say 5 reps all the way to 10 that is more for power lifters that want mass.

  • Weight lifting wasnt in the question. Extreme lifters like yourself suffer good and bad pain. The good pain is proof that the workout worked, the bad pain (sharp searing pain) normally indicates something wrong. You do have to consider the age thing tho as someone at 60 isnt going to do what youre doing unless they have done it for a long long time.

  • Alles Klar = All Clear?/Understand?

  • Jetzt is mir alles klar ^^

  • I've been waiting so long for a decline dumbell exercise... When will it come???

  • Oh its coming. I actually filmed it but lost the footage, it wasnt HD anyway. I will try and work declines in, its on my list!

  • WIIILSOOOON!! :D

  • Hahaha you're cool dude :D

  • I like it, when you say "Alles klar". :-)

  • Hi scoopy, this may be off topic, but I was curious as to how many pushups you can do with good form in a row. Thanks

  • Thanks for the information. Great as always.

  • Love you german :D

    Keep it up!
