@ MAJORSNODGRASS I suspect the guitar intro is Jack Bruce. At the time he played a 6 string Fender VI, sometimes known as a Baritone Bass. I was lucky enough to see this great band many times around the North London scene.
@Bigkahkistan It's a cover, & it's the same song as the Kinks' record, also a cover: Originally recorded by Tommy "High-Heeled Sneakers" Tucker, written by R&B great, (& Little Richard associate), Don Covay. All three versions were recorded in 1964.

At the very beginning there's a guitar intro. Who was that could it have been John McLoughlin? Didn't sound like him but he's the only guitarist associated with the GBO.
@MAJOR: This was recorded in 1964. No single source mentions both McLaughlin's join date & departure date, but putting the sources together, it seems that he both joined & left the same year: 1963. He wasn't replaced by another guitarist, so he may well be on this record as a session player.
Great sounds! I read somewhere that the Repertoire Records lable of Germany was going to reissue the Graham Bond Organisation's 2 60s albums on cd with bonus tracks. This was back in 2007- 2008 when I read this and got excited as I love their music, but have not seen the cds for sale anywhere yet. Anybody know why they haven't been reissued yet? I am still waiting.
Bad-Ass jimmytheferret.......I love this tune. I've got it on an old "best of British blues" double l.p. I'm gonna be posting some gems from it when I get the record player-to-computer set up (soon) This one for some reason always reminds me of "tiger in your tank" by the Downliners Sect (now I've gotta go play it) rock on, man...nice post ;) P.S. Aleistair Crowley's Son??? tee hee hee hee
dont ginger and bruce look soo young.mad times and the back bone to many mad sounds to come out of the uk.lets not forget we the brits are the best at it,music is not a past time?its a dam way off life.the day mole jazz in london moved away from its old gaff to foles that did me head in.southall to ealing jazz club was a hive of muisc heaven.and dont forget pop pickers the drumer from j hendrix workted in a drum shop in hanwell west london many mooons ago,ps soz cant spell his name.

Damn this is good. Is this an original song? I know the Kinks did a song by this title too, but are they both covers?

Anyone dismissive of British blues and R n' B need to hear tunes like this.
This is tight, spirited playing and singing.

love abigail´s comment ... never heard any tune with a groove like that and thus far away from mainstream ... ever since!

Great song, and Bond's three-packs-a-day growl just seals the whole thing . . .
