What really bothers me is that we see a prominent and respected Islamic leader talking about death, violence, and anthrax, and we all think "well, there's another one." I was Muslim myself and you are free to believe what the Quran tells you but I personally have more trust in historical sources; for example Kaaba was built by pagans around a meteorite, it was dedicated to Hubal, a Nabatean deity and contained hundreds of idols representing Arabian tribal gods such as Al-lat and Al-Uzza. Once a year, pagan tribes from all around the Arabian Peninsula would converge on Mecca to perform the Hajj, and that is how Hajj was embedded into Islam.
