I was exactly like you when Acclaim was going under, I noticed that they seemed to be working on some cool projects while on their death bed and I pulling for them. Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance was short, but a pretty good game, especially for Acclaim. I had no idea Red Star even came out, I was bummed when it was canned. This game would be perfect for XBLA or PSN, somebody make it happen!
so.. this is how 2 players looks like. I only play this game alone. I was surprise that the Rank given to individually, not as a team. Red Star Rocks. Thumbs up.
Really great game, my girlfriend and I have been playing through this game for months, on and off, and we're stuck at the boss of one of the later chapters, somewhere inbetween 14 or 16, the entire level itself isn't bad, but the boss is such a bullet hell that it becomes too hectic to avoid and we both end up dying. A keeper for sure, but definitely not something you'll beat without a lot of practice.
So, I actually bought this game because of this video. It was difficult at first, a few bosses gave me a whole lot of trouble, but I was doing alright until I got to Troika. Woooooo boy was he rough. Finally beat the game though, it was well worth the $10 I paid for it.
this was one of the games that were picked up by another developer after acclaim closed doors...probably would have sucked ass if acclaim finished it...
@AP93Playa Acclaim was capable of making good games, they just mostly chose the lazy path of uninspired development most of the time. A lot of people have no love for XS games either.
There was one game from Acclaim that really surprised me in its quality. Xtreme g racing series on the n64, ps2 and gamecube. I don't think there's any other futuristic motorbike racing game out there as smooth and as fast as this series. IMO the series is more fun than f-zero and wipeout in its own way. Really underrated series. My favorite is xg3 so far. The newest is xgra which i didnt like only because of the voice acting which is really really bad.
Looks really fun. I remember reading about it a few times during its development and it's great to hear that it did come out on both PS2 and PSP despite all the publisher-related problems.
Great game, very punishing, got stuck on coop on 14th level or something. Recently refreshed myself with this Punishment Pack on the psp, so yet again I fell into this unforgiving nightmare.. Yeah, I love this one.
i am so glad that this game was finally released. Years ago it was to be released on the xbox and be an exclusive but the power that be snubbed that idea. It was finally released on ps2 pretty recently( a few years ago) and personally it was worth the wait because it is such a great game!
I am not sure if I agree with you or not on this one. While it's fun at some parts, there are too many annoying parts that got in the way from me enjoying or finishing it. Also, why does everyone compare this game to every game ever made? There are a lot of other danmaku that could be more accurately compared to this than Ikaruga. Actually, I think that comparing it to the Arcade/Dreamcast game Canon Spike would be more accurate.
@woodALIVE Actually I said that while playing it today, but in order to describe it to others, I can't very well say Cannon Spike because less people have played that than The Red Star. Ikaruga is about a thousand times better known than Cannon Spike, and i was just using it as an example.
(drools) ARCADE ACTION!!

This game is pretty rare, I've been looking for a copy for a while. It does look pretty fun and I can definitely see the Cannon Spike resemblance.
