you're gonna strain your gears downshifting like that. You should practice shifting down to the lower gear, rev it up to what it would be in the lower gear, and then take your foot off the clutch and you'll get a smoother downshift. if you want to look it up its called rev matching

lower gear means higher acceleration but lower top speed in that gear.

driving at a certain speed in gear 2 and same speed in gear 3, gear 2 gives better response, higher rpm, but can't go as fast top speed as the higher gear because it'll reach redline faster.
