What I liked was how throughout the movie you developed this sense of dread and you knew it wasn't going to end well, but you still felt sad when it, you know, didn't. It's a really masterful story that can give you that sense of foreboding and yet you don't lose the heartwrenching-ness of it all. Actually, the best stories/literature/movies I can think of are all like that.
1. The whole Scarecrow sequence was not needed. Or at least give scarecrow some more purpose as a subplot leading into the bigger plot.
2.Two-Face didn't get enough film time
3.Watch the 1989 Batman after Dark Knight. It's the exact same formula with Batman's encounters with Joker in both films. Party crash, "Hit me", throw Joker off the building
It was very "smart". Like Godfather smart. It wasn't about the action persay, it was about the content which is what makes it oscar material, not to mention the joker/heath ledger.
I agree with all except about TDk was running a little too long and I never felt like that in my opinion and it was one of those rare films where it went pretty fast like I felt when I watched Harry Potter 2 and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
they pretended jim gordan was dead bc the joker was nameing who he would kill and jim was worried if he name him as a victom his family would be in danger.
i cried in the scene with rachel's death because bruce thought she was going to wait for him and the letter said she was going to marry harvey dent! The part with her and harvey talking was like so mind blowing! rachels like i dont want to live without you i will marry you then harvey heres her die it was so typical joker to mix up the addresses!
i thought it was way cooler than scarier, like i kno it had scary moments, but im used to that. but it was totally different and more clever than anything else. just awsome everytime they did sumtin suposed be a terrorizm act or watev.
I hope not. I think when Gordon said "because he can take it", he means that Batman will protect Gotham regardless of the police. What makes it interesting though, is that his job just got a lot more difficult. Now he has to fight criminals and stay on the run from the police, but the interesting thing about the police is that unless he wants to make it worse for himself he can't really fight back.
Yeah, he will have to worry about both the criminals and the police. I hope they make a sequel, I'd like to see villains such as Man-Bat, Killer Croc, Black Mask or Clayface on the big screen. I don't think villains like the Penguin or the Riddler are suited for this Batman franchise though. They're too "cartoonish" for such a dark and atmospheric Batman film series.
The reason why Gordon faked his death is that if the Joker didn't think he'd killed Gordon, he may very well have gone after Gordon's family. Remember the interrogation scene when Gordon said he couldn't risk his family?
The Dark Knight was awesome times 100. It really made me proud to be a Batman fan again. Christopher Nolan's direction was second to none. In fact I had my face painted as Heath's Joker as a tribute to him. Christopher Nolan is the right man to handle the franchise. Awesome sequel to Batman Begins.
I saw this today, man i was litrelly speechless once the film finished, it was Freaking Amazing, Heaths Perfomance was Incredible, And Eckhart as Harvey Two-Face was Damn good too, Shame they killed him off since i was hoping they would save him for a 3rd film but he was used very well and wasnt wasted like Venom was in SM3, Oh yeah that bit when the dead body slams against the window scared the S*it out me lol.
lol, I remember that scene. I had my popcorn at my feet and I was reaching for it when all of a sudden everybody jumped. I was like "Huh? What happened?"
I just saw the midnight premiere here in my country. (Denmark) It was an awesome movie. Heath Ledger's performance was fucking brilliant. I liked Harvey Dent too. His appearance as Two Face didn't scare me though, but it sure looked cool and realistic. My favourite scene is when Batman is interrogating the Joker. When Batman beat the crap out of the Joker and he just laughed maniacally, that was an awesome part.
To clarify the beginning for you... (Def. see it again) Gordon and Batman marked the money to trace which banks they were in. Gordon knew his family was in jeapordy from the Joker. So to protect them he used getting shot in the back as an excuse to pretend he was dead. It's long, yeah, but did it feel like it? I wanted mORE!!
I agree it was too long and they didnt have to kill harvy dent and I wish we could of seen the joker in arkam and the trip to hong kong and the mob money thing they could of did more batman vs joker.the hulk iron man and hell boy was better movies
Oh, and excellent review btw, it was a good thing I kept away from watching it before seeing the movie, considering all the spoilers. :D But yeah, great review, I'll be checking out your other vids concerning TDK later.
Just saw it earlier. And honestly, while I expected a great film and to be probably the best comic book film ever made, I didn't expect to be the blown away by it. Seriously, SM2 and Begins, Iron man are great films and some of the best comic book films ever, but they're not by any means masterpieces. Maybe SM2 is close to that, but still. TDK is just flat out terrific, and the best film I've seen released this year.
I completely agree with your ratings. I thought the beginning could have been a little better, but the movie overall was absolutely AMAZING!! Heath Ledger was the maker of this movie. Without him, it just wouldn't have been the same. He is the greatest villian of all time. And I really loved how they didn't make it too campy, it was a very realistic, dark, movie. It was just sooo good. Can't get over it! Can't wait to see it a million more times!
not bad, but Friday July 18 i managed to see it at midnight, 2:25pm and 6:30pm and twice on Sunday. that was the single best weekend of my life. and an expensive one. i do recommend you see it in IMAX at least 3 times too. great review btw.
true. they do 'tend to put IMAXs in upscale places of a city. mine was too and i almost got lost on the way. plus i had to arrive 4 hours earlier b4 the midnight showing b/c they're all soldout and the lines are massive. but dude, it's SO WORTH IT!!! for instance, the opening scene makes you feel like you're hovering over the rooftops b4 the clowns land on it. however, if you have a fear of heights than u might want to bring someone with you. it looks that realistc--like HDTV.
i was quite suprised how different the tone was compared to the previous film, definitely not something for the little kids, but the film's direction is something most batman fans would want, including me. overall an incredible flick to remember for years to come.
I have never seen so many people lined up to see a movie before! I didn't get home until like 4:30 in the morning, but oh my god, this movie was unbelievably badass. Loved it.
same, dude. I saw a HUGE line up and I was thankful I got my tickets online. but thankfully the line was just for getting into the theater and it went pretty fast.
ok cool :D I haven't seen it yet but I don't mind the spoilers lol, I had already been spoiled about Rachel's fate. Good god, I think it's awesome that they decided to do that. I was always like: Why don't they introduce and kill gwen in the Spidey movies???? A girl-friend dying is so dramatic and powerful, the Bourne trilogy handled that so well, and it seems Batman is doing a great job 2. I'll be seeing this when I can, Belgian release is later
I agree, the gilfriend dying always sets up the biggest impact on the character. and the thing is, in this movie it effects TWO people just as equally.
I didnt really understand the radiation on the cast either...do you understand it now? i still have no clue...
However i kinda hope they dont have another sequel, id rather not see them make a film that does not top TDK and kinda make it feel like they have gone down hill or something
Hey, well this is Hollywood now. You can't honestly say that it 'isn't' possible for Two Face to come back for the next movie...although I wouldn't mind. Eckhart was good, but I don't know if I'd really care to see him again. Can someone say Mr. Freeze? Haha jk.
I agree this is Hollywood and anything is possible. but then again, this Batman series has been reinvented to where if somebody dies the only time you'll see them again is a flashback.
i totally agree. the action was AMAZING. the ending was AMAZING. i am now worried about the next movie becuase it seems like it could only be downhill from here. i dont know how theyll top this. i give it 9.9 out of ten. not ten becuase i didnt want them to kill off rachel just when i was starting to like her character. i did like the length, however. as long as they can entertain me the whole time im all for longer movies, especially if im gonna pay ten bucks to get in the theater.
very true. whenever I see a movie I want to get my money's worth and here I did. I agree that it does SEEM like the third would only decrease, but then again Chris Nolan is a very creative and talented artist so I do have hope for the third one. I think he's definetely surprised us and hopefully he will continue to because I think that this movie deserves to be a trilogy.
yes, i will just have to have faith in him. he's certainly got his work cut out for him now that the hype is going to be bigger than ever. i dont envy his position.
he's definetely got a difficult choice to make for the third movie. Because he's either going to have a bunch of Ledger fans going crazy at it for recasting him and claiming he has no respect, or he's going to have Batman fans going crazy at him for not including the Joker in the next movie. I think he'll choose the latter because he knows that Heath would probably have wanted somebody to continue and he made this movie for batman fans, not Ledger fans.
So I just saw it...It's definately a very good movie, but anytime you have that much hype, it's extremely difficult to live up to it. Also was pretty long IMHO...If it were 30 minutes less it would be one of my favorite movies ever.
I agree, I thought that the last thirty to forty minutes could have been cut and saved for the third movie. but then again, if it wasn't we wouldn't have got the ending that we did where Batman is now being hunted by the police.
oh that part I figured out. but I found it confusing where the guy, I think his name is Lao, said he's got the mob's money when we've just seen the Joker steal it all. also the scene where batman and gordon are talking in the vault and gordon and dent are talking in dent's office, I had to listen carefully the second time around to know what was going on.
Well the joker stole 60 million of their money I believe, to be honest that's pretty small bills compared to the sum total of the mobs assets, which is what Lao took. I don't know, I didn't find it very confusing but that is just me.
oh, okay. so the Joker stole SOME of their money and Lao took the rest to protect it. but that still leaves the question as to why he stole it in the first place?
