When I plug my PS3 into my monitor detects the PS3 and the menu comes up but after a few seconds it tells me to turn down the resolution on the Playstation because the monitor is running in overdrive. I have no clue how to change the resolution through the menu. I am running it through a Philips monitor and the PS3 is connected via a HDMI to DVI converter. Any help would be appreciated.

@Keeplt Go to settings, press display settings, press video output settings, press hdmi, then select automatic. Then it will ask you if you can read the screen. Press yes and your finished.

@TrippyTurk big guy follow the instructions in this video for sound.. use your audio video plugs to do the sound and set your sound to scart-avi-multi and NOT hdmi.. good luck!!

Thanks a lot, fixed my problem. Just a little help for others, if you don't have that tube looking adapter (to the right @ 3:14), you may be able to just plug it straight into your subwoofer (that is your big base thing with all the wires that connect out and give you sound to your computer speakers) and that will work too. I don't know if it will make a difference if it is a male or female but try it nevertheless.

Well everything works great...........But the monitor is kinda old and it needs 720P to run, and the Ps3 is trying to force 1080P to it and it will not work unless I change it....BUT I can't change it without video...wtf they should offer ALL options before the switch just like computers do. what a pain in the ....eyes?

other then that this works great, if it doesn't then check the audio options in the ps3 settings menu, you can change it from there.

The monitor MUST be HDCP compliant. This means "High Definition Content Protection" and basically if your monitor does not have this various outcomes can occur but the end result is that the monitor cannot decrypt encoding on the signal it is being sent and thus you get zip to see.

This "HDCP" compliance should easily be discovered by checking the specification of your monitor online.

@ForzaAquila Yes. You can purchase a specialised cable that goes from your PS3 to the VGA connection on your monitor - this also includes the red/white audio connectors needed for your sound. Easily searched for in 'Amazon'.

You will still need the female/female 3.5mm adaptor as shown in the video, ofc., to plug in your speakers/headphones.

@ForzaAquila I forgot the most IMPORTANT thing - your monitor MUST be HD compliant. You will need access to your monitor specs to determine this. I believe the standard is known as 'HDCP' or similar.
