hmm - these are the kind of african leaders the british help in to power - gives you an idea of what they think of african people, funny how when he turned against the british they started calling him a deranged psychopath when it was for that very reason they selected him to rule over the ugandan people in the first place.

@Zoidypoo89 no just the truth, idi amin despite being the least qualified candidate for the job was given the job because the british thought he was a simpleton and a bufoon and therefore would allow them to continue to exploit the ugandan economy, unfortunately for them he saw through their bullshit and decided that he would no longer be taking orders from them, thats when they turned against him and started calling him a brutal dictator (sound familiar?)

@phoenixchi28 There is some truth in that. UK kept buying tea from Uganda during the first years of Amin' rule.
The defection of one of Amin minister and his book written in London against the UK support and trade with Amin rule, took the attention against Amin. That was 2 years before Tanzania invaded Uganda.

@phoenixchi28 Looked it up, and it seems like it checks out. Though you missed one vital point - it was around that time that he started acting more and more irrational. He didn't kill arch bishops on a whim when he was first appointed. It came over time, as it does with most dictators. They lose grip of reality over time. It's important to have in mind before deciding that the british only turned against him because he wasn't taking orders

I'm glad you did your own research to find out the truth, rather than let the western coporate media do the thinking for you unlike that moron userUK201, as i was saying, dictators have one common characteristic - paranoia, which is understandable given that they make a humungous amount of enemies over time, Amin was no exception, but we must understand why and how he came to be where he was and the real reasons behind his behaviour before condemning him.

@phoenixchi28 I agree with you completely, yet my point still stands. I've found no indications that Idi Amin was mad beyond recognition when they first appointed him as leader. Therefore it's logical to assume that he went mad over time, as almost all dictators do. It's rare that they behave that irrational from the very beginning
