Then why should a fictional fantasy show like 24 be seen as such? People watch 24 because it's scary and thrilling, not because they automatically "approve of tough tactics" by watching it. If they didn't approve of tough tactics, they wouldn't necessarily stop watching the program.
yeah, the situations on 24 are very very particular. they are mostly impossible situations in which jack really does know something to be true and when the environment is just right for the tough tactics to produce results, and oftentimes such tactics had terrible side effects (though the results were positive ultimately). But don't forget the numerous times the show also portrayed non-torturous tactics yielding very positive results. 24 deals with unlikely extremes, not reality.

You're absolutely right. TV is TV, no matter how realistic it may SEEM. Even the non-fiction such as news can easily be sensationalized, not to be mention flat out TV-novels.
