i agree that mazda has the best sports convertibles, but its fricken JAPENESE, you know its nationality that causes wars, im american and im saying this
I drove a LOT of MX-5s and settled with a very tidy, one owner NB series 1. I thought a lot about the series 2 but personally I prefer the 5 speed, the closer similarity with the NA and the lack of extra weight that the bells and whistles they put on the series 2 caused. Personal preference but whichever one you chose you won't be disappointed with either machine!
i have a mx5 this model and drove a lotus also, present model.i really am glad that i bought the mx5,yes i know its slower but so much more driveable.i bought the rs model and they are absolutly great.i can see why they are called the best roadsters ever made.
You would if you lived in the real world. A Lotus is an amazing thing but they simply suck in everyday, daily driving duties. An MX5 is dual purpose ride that won't bankrupt you when you have an off at the track

This okay and everything....but nothing,.. NOTHING can touch my awesome Civic. It is the Chuck Norris of all cars with ME driving... Why? you ask? Because I am so Awesome! Please give me thumbs up because I totally deserve it!!!!
haha! the miata an american deisgn???!!! the mazda miata is the exact OPPOSITE of any american car. american cars are designed to do straight line speed and nothing else. the miata is all about handling and driving enjoyment
Yes, your right...accept for the mid-engine, front wheel drive part. LOL
The Japanese design team wanted a mid-engine, rear wheel drive set up like the toyota MR2
What would be the point of a mid engine, front wheel drive? haha. I agree with you though, thank god they chose the American teams design, my MX5 is the most fun car ive ever driven for the price
It actually was designed in California, Mazda Japan wanted to use a front engine/front wheel drive, while Mazda developers in California wanted front engine/rear wheel drive. Both sides collaborated as far as design, but it in reality it was designed in both, but more so in California since their design was what made it to the final cut.
Let me correct you. Mazda Japan's idea was for a mid engine/rear wheel drive similar to a Toyota MR2. Mazda California's idea was for the front engine/read wheel drive layout that you mentioned. Mazda decided to use the California's design and then engineered the car back in Japan.
i <3 my miata...

Top Gear lays on the Brit bias way too thick at times.
They absolutely go bonkers over Lotus, Aston, and Jaguar.
Even when the Jaguar is shit compared to the Aston, they'll always treat it as if it's close.
Even though the new Lotus Evora is completely underwhelming, especially for the price, they go ahead and drool all over it.

i wouldnt even consider a car like a lotus as an everyday car. if you can afford a lotus you can afford multiple cars

@potatotruck I could live with a Lotus :D

Surprisingly i know 2 people who have owned Lotus's and went ahead and purchased a Miata afterwards. Gotta drive one

The Miata is a lot of great sports car for very little money.
I just bought a 99 Miata and added a style/roll bar, an exhausts, and a racing steering wheel.
it's Awesome.

It was designed in California U.S.A. Get over it.

Not quite Japanese
Designed in America, built in Japan.
If it were entirely Japanese, it would have been a mid-engine, front wheel drive car since that's what the Japanese design was.
The California design team wanted a front engine rear wheel drive setup, and thank god they won the design.

Oh hah! Sorry, that was a typo on my part.
I meant to say rear wheel drive, lol.
Mid-Engine Front Wheel drive would be rather odd, wouldn't it? lol
Thanks for pointing that out :]

No problem mate, LOL. Didn't want to upset you, thought it was funny what you wrote. have a good day yeah

It was certainly not designed in America. Check your facts, buddy.
