what was launched was an EMP, electro magnetic pulse, the blast renders close to any electrical equipment useless, thus the helicopters falling form the sky, and the red dot sights not working, i thought it was a nuke the blew up, then i found out it was an EMP :D hope that cleared some things up

@shoyru18 that's not true. EMP and Nuke are different. EMP is a bomb that explodes, and like how the nuke gives out radiation, the EMP releases magnetrons that destroy any electronic device ect. In it's way. nuke is a bomb that not only is very dangerous, but after the explosion, there is radioactive waste: radiation. Nukes are worse, depending on how big it is.

@CarlOreally i'm afraid your mistaken. Nearly all modern military planes and helo's are on a fly by wire system. That means that all the pilots commands are handled by computer. If the computers are shut down the pilot has no control over the aircraft. This includes the engine management systems. The eurofighter typhoon for example, has 13 on-board computers just to keep it in the air, and the designers openly state that if even one of them fails the plane will immediately crash.

When you do that, the earth's magnetic field traps all those stray electrons in the ionosphere, creating a huge EMP blast that cooked all technology in Washington and evened the playing field for the Rangers.

@kjun13 Every nuke detonated in high parts of atmosphere makes an EMP. Actually, there is no weapon which makes only EMP - the only way to gain so big Electromagnetic blast is to detonate a nuke in low parts of stratosphere.

In addition, single EMP doesn't have it's own shock wave, so it can't degrade a space station ;]

@kjun13 ACTUALLY, it WAS a nuke. That submarine that Price was on had a shiton of nukes on it. He just put the co-ordinates above the eastern seaboard to make it act as a nuke. A nuke has to properties. The radiation and EMP included.
