To the 4 guys that didn't like your video, I vote we make red shirts out of them and feed them to the Guardian of Forever, send them back in their red shirt to a time before TOS ! nice job on this. thanks
This was about the time I was first introduced to Star Trek! And I was lucky enough that my local station (regular TV) was airing both TOS and TNG practically back to back each weeknight!
did you guys notice when they were talking about the computer controlled camera to record the Enterprise in drydock, the computer they were using looked like an IBM Portable PC? (model 5155 originally released in 1984)
With the exception of Vina, I didn't think there *were* any women on Talos IV. And now I've invited the death penalty by revealing that I've been there...
I was one of the organizers for a convention in Kansas many years ago and had the pleasure of being Mr Kelleys assistant for the two days he was there. We talked a great deal and not just about Star Trek. He was a genuine, funny and admirable man in every way. I still have a picture of he and I that was taken with his camera that he sent me a few weeks later and signed: It was MY honor... DeForrest Kelley ....along with a handwritten letter inviting me to visit anytime I was in Ca. RIP De
LeVar Burton said in an interview that he was almost as blind as the character he played through the visor, and he often had to be led around the set.
Although TNG had computers to aid the scenes that were drawn initally for each episode (it's amazing that the computers like the one @5:50!] accomplished that - with 5.25 drives!), it shows how ahead of its time Star Trek TOS really was.
Roddenberry was the father of many directors who had interest in space...even if they don't acknowledge him. Yes, with larger budgets for their films, they were able to make a few more bucks, but Roddenberry's message was much more inclusive and personal. And that's why the Star Trek series of television shows and films under Roddenberry and his associates who worked with him are the most endearing and memorable.
@alphaomega309 I always thought his tombstone should read, "I'm Dead Jim.". If I were him, I would have insisited on it. lol But then I'm just crazy like that.
We've shared so many adventures with the crews of Star Trek. And every adventure gives millions of us a shared memory. It's these memories, and having shared them that makes us feel a part of something bigger then ourselves. DeForest Kelley is alive now as he always has been, because the memories he's given us all still live on. And after us, more will have memories from these same adventures, and he will live on longer then us all.
I find it funny if not being a Hypocritc...when Riker once told Q he doesn't need fantasy women. yet he goes to the Holideck and creates them. what a Lier he is.
I still have a VCR below my DVD player that was bought new in 1986 and the lighted clock has been on almost the entire 24 years, its like a little beacon of stability and permanence
@Goofyk1d No, but VCR's and VHS's tape went bad fast, Especially if you watched them over and over. They would get warped from heat or stuck in the machine's a lot, lol.
@Torus202 Yeah VHS tapes are like that, but watching an old worn out VHS tape brings back nostalgic memories, like an old song played on an old record player with the pops and cracks, its just part of the character and brings you back in time to that era.
The Doctor will always be in my heart and my mind - When I am confronted with a stepping stone in life, I always say to myself "Dammit Jim, I'm a....not a ..." - It always helps - God Bless you De - You will always be my Doctor...
to bad Deforest Kelly, James Doohan, and Gene are no longer with us I would like to see a new show that take place at the same time interval between the original series and the next generation
I always thought that the Dry-dock shown here from "Family" was one of the first CG models used on Trek due to its absolute smoothness and lack of surface texture. It's interesting to find out that it was an actual physical model used for the shot.
I remember loving this mainly because we got to see De and Gates together (nice legs on Gates, as always)....and De's reaction to the doors. "I'll be damned." LOL!
It was Kirk, Spock and Bones who MADE the original series the great stuff it was, and sadly, IMO that was never replicated in the other series like TNG, and DS9-
LoL, when he was in the turbolift and said "BLAST IT" I just about spat my drink out laughing. I think Star Trek (all of them) is one of those shows that, love it or hate it, no matter how minor the role everyone is really cast perfectly to the point where you see the actor and aren't sure if it's the character or actor you're seeing.
The scene in the first TNG episode where Admiral McCoy shuffles down the corridor giving Data the gears and bitching about Vulcans was where I said "yes, this is Star Trek."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think that overall the 'Enterprise the next generation' and the newest 'Enterprise' are by far the best series. I found the older ones the captains did a lot of unbelievable decisions etc, which made it harder to get right into the story.
Michael dorn is so right; I remember the first time I saw Klingons in 1996 on a rerun of TNG it disgusted me so much I had to turn away. Now days that bulging forehead is actually pretty interesting to look like compared to some of the more mundane looking alien species.
Goldburg was always one of my favorite on-off roles in TNG, sort of like Barkley is still one of my favorites to span series. Majel as well, fantastic actress. It was the quality-but-initially-unknown actors, the purpose, that gave it that "glow."
This is one of the best behind the scenes look at TNG I've ever seen, and DeForest Kelley hosting it just puts the icing on the cake. What I especially love about this jewel is that when De is talking about TNG, you can hear the respect in his voice. He would have made one hell of a real doctor. De originally wanted to become a Doctor (because he wanted to help people) but his parents couldn't afford the medical school fees so De became an actor. He based McCoy's humanity on himself while the gritty and abrasiveness on the doctors that looked after his parents in their final years of their lives and how they would update De on their condition.
The only thing that makes no sense is that every time he was on the Bridge etc, it had the sounds of the old Enterprise bridge instead of the Enterprise D's bridge.
I sure miss the familiar cast from the old Star Trek. but I do love the new cast seen in the Next Generation. Star Trek, the next generation will soon be a classic, like the original star trek.
you also forgot Mark Lenard..one who played in TOS ,some of the movies and a couple of TNG episodes....(Sarek,a Romulan Commander and a Klingon Commander)
he is talking about the actor Mark Lenard who played Sarek. In TOS he played a Romulan Commander before he played Sarek and in Star Trek the Motion Picture he played a Klingon Captain
There was an idea to bring McCoy's daughter on board in TOS in The way to Eden, but they changed it to Chekov's ex-girlfriend. But it's quite established non -canon that he had a bad divorce, went into space and has a daughter called Joanna!
Fascinating...and DeForest was great looking at the differences with us. All of the shows are great, but I'll always have a special fondness for the original, it boldly went where no one had gone before. "Dammit it Jim...!!!" Rest In Peace.

Ten thousand dollars for that little shot. I hope I'm never paid that much for anything two seconds long.

RIP deforest. You were one hell of a sci-fi doctor. :)
hoppers001 2 years ago 19

Star Trek, the next generation will soon be a classic, like the original star trek.

you also forgot Mark Lenard..one who played in TOS ,some of the movies and a couple of TNG episodes....(Sarek,a Romulan Commander and a Klingon Commander)
mikethegent 2 years ago 3
Sarek was Vulcan Ambassador of the federation, and Spock's father. He wasn't Romulan
Tren87 1 year ago
he is talking about the actor Mark Lenard who played Sarek. In TOS he played a Romulan Commander before he played Sarek and in Star Trek the Motion Picture he played a Klingon Captain

is it true McCoy had a daughter named Donna?
knowpassword 3 years ago
There was an idea to bring McCoy's daughter on board in TOS in The way to Eden, but they changed it to Chekov's ex-girlfriend. But it's quite established non -canon that he had a bad divorce, went into space and has a daughter called Joanna!

Fascinating...and DeForest was great looking at the differences with us. All of the shows are great, but I'll always have a special fondness for the original, it boldly went where no one had gone before. "Dammit it Jim...!!!" Rest In Peace.
