@239Brenton French philosophers continue a tradition of obscurity of expression inherited from their German masters, Kant, Hegel, Heidegger & others. Nothingness, as I understand it, is his way of expressing HUMAN being as not that of objects: having no pre-existing essence such as a piece of furniture does, or a gardening tool, say. Being and Nothingness is about what being is for humans who make up our own essences as we go--by our every action. 'Be nice if he could just say that, huh?
Relentless music has me wanting to stop listening to the Sartre explication. Sorry.

Hi JC, it is a bit hard to hear you in this vid.
Analysts like Ayer think that the idea of nothingness is a logical confusion.
I think it is likely that the introduction to being & nothingness, and the chapter 'origins of negation' are both confused and confusing.
It is very hard to get to the meat of what Sartre is saying, what is the idea under the words?

I personally like Albert Camus the most out of the existentialist philosophers.
