From an engineering stand point Britannic should have never sunk, the addition of the covered shelter deck on the stern of the ship as well as the enclosed promenades and extra deck above the poop deck, and the fact that she had a double hull and curved expansion joints that could'nt create a fracture, means she should have been nearly un-sinkable but a failure on the water tight doors and open portholes caused the ship to sink twice as fast as her sister Tianic. Rest in peace Britannic
know all about white star line she did not hit a mine she was hit by a topedo by a german u-boat i know cause if u look on line there was a british cruser behind her that sunk it and look at it in the books
there was a britiannic in 1882 and calided with another ship but they saved her but was never put back in service and hmhs means his/her magersty hospital ship
now, i know why britannic was higher in tonnage than titanic. Look at Britannic's stern, there seems to be like a small structure there that looks like a group of rooms. Its completely different from titanic and olympic's stern . The design was similar to the Lusitania and Mayretania... can you see it?
@ianobey11 Well that changes must have been done in the last moment when it became a hospital ship! Really, I'm living in Greece and I do some diving from time to time! Hope I'll have the chance to go see Britannic one day ;)
@BrandonBCM it wouldn't have been this one. White Star had three ships named 'Britannic'. . The ship that he must have travelled on was, RMS Britannic (1929).
@BrandonBCM Hate to burst your bubble, mate, but Britannic never saw trans-Atlantic service. She was delivered to the British Admiralty almost immediately after she was completed due to the outbreak of WWI.
It really must be noted that the White Star Line never claimed any of the Olympic-class steamers were unsinkable. They only ever advertised them as "The Largest and Grandest Steamers in the World," which they were for a time. The press, on taking a tour of the new liners and learning of the arrangement of watertight bulkheads, extolled them as "practically unsinkable." So fantastic were these new ships that, in the hysteria of the day, people lost sight of the "practically" bit.
@mrtrainboy019 RMS Olympic enjoyed a long career on the trans-Atlantic run. She was not taken out of service until the 1930's, and the closest she came to sinking was a collision with HMS Hawke. And no one ever claimed the Lusitania was unsinkable.
These types of ships in the early 1900's sank because of people that were so full of them selves, thought that nothing would sink theses "great" ships. Like the titanic instead of listening to the iceberg warnings they kept going to mean their final destination. So sad.
The Britannic was built with all the "improvements" that her sister's (Titanic, Olympic) didn't have like higher bulkheads, etc. Britannic sank so fast because she was in a warm climate with most of the port holes wide open so all it took was a slight list and down she went. Sad. Olympic "died in bed" as she was in service until the mid 1930s before being scrapped. Her interior wood work is in several buildings today in England.

@NICK79ist It's all war, many Hospital ships were lost in mistaken attacks. Look up a Ship called the Wilhelm Gustav, it was a German Hospital ship full of wounded and refugees escaping the Russians and the Russians torpedoed her and close to 10,000 souls lost their lives. So even the Germans Suffered and please learn what all sides went through before you post comments like yours.
Since the Britannic sunk 4 years after the Titanic, she's probably in a more good shape and condition than the titanic. We can raise her and rebuild parts of her that fall off. We can look at blueprints, 3D models, etc for areas that fall off if we raise her to rebuild.
I want to go scuba diving and explore those ships. I know theres no bodies, but I feel like someone got trapped in a room and never got out...........ever. and I'm a history nut
Dont worry all people that dont died at the explosion could go off the ship because in war the evacuation was more faster and safer. Ofcourse 2 Lifeboats got sucked in the propellers and of that 30 people died but only the people in the 2 lifeboats. even though it where 30 people too much...
@PresidentZod maybe because it could be for tourists and it would attract a lot of attention which would make people a lot of money ok so why cant you just think this out on your own ok
It would be useless as a passenger liner because no-one will spend five days crossing the Atlantic when they could cross it in a few hours in a jet.
It would be useless as a cruise liner because the Titanic was originally designed as a passenger liner with three different classes totally separate from each other (1st, 2nd, steerage).
Cruise ships now are designed so fat Americans have all the comforts of home - including a McDonalds and KFC.
@PresidentZod don't know bout u but i'd rather spend 5 days at sea away from the city rather than 10 minutes in a security checkpoint with a guard ready to cavity search me followed by the cramp long journey on a jet with the possibility of a crying baby on board. -.-
@SuperTitanicfreak The Britannic sank faster cause it struck a mine the Titanic hit an iceberg the mine left a bigger hole on the Britannic than the iceberg on the Titanic letting more water causing the Britannic to sink faster
If you've seen the movie there's some agent from Germany on board the Britannic's last voyage, and makes this bomb on board her and drops it in the ships engines, but when she's sinking water gets into the engines or something and causes a second explosion on the other side of the ship.So there were 2 holes in the britannic's hull,1 on each side, and it has been proven that there are 2 holes in the Britannic's hull.
well they are histrocial but ship sinks unlike wat they said to one crew ship are unsinkable or britannic but that is no true britannic can be sink by a torepedo and if they didn't know it they will die and of coures engine must stop the rotating thing must stop it already explodeded so the 3 spining thing will not work for that it must stop alredy
well there histrocal but ship are sinkable a missle vs a wooden part or wat i mean a metal hull can break a torepedo unlike other sip i really sinkable even the biggest modern ship can be sinks by big waves example tsunami and some powerful missle can break it so compare to a ship all ships sinks
whats sad about this is when the ship capsized, everything fell to the side and a maybe a rifle sitting on a shelf in somebodies room, and their locked inside... the rifle skips over the fireplace, hits a shovel, the shovel's handle clicks the rifles trigger and... bang. 1 down, six billion to go.
anyone else find it ironic that she sank in only 55 min compared to the actually 15 hours of her sister ship? and that she was built more sturdier(i think i spelled that wrong) may be that she struck a mine or Torpedo that cause a larger hole(they still dont know which).. eh both are tragedies but we all know about the Titanic.
What is it with the WSL making fail ships? I mean, only RMS Olympic was the only one of it's three sister ships (Titanic, Britannica, and Olympic) that survived to retirement.
She was a casualty in war, everyone will have a casualty in war, no matter how big or small, each must be respected, no matter the banner they fall under. The world gave Britannic her faith. Wrong place in the wrong time. Something we can not change. I still do not get why people hate on a country that tested faith. Germany is not still a Nazi crazed place.
(I am not German I am Russian, I have a friend that was German and was murdered by an American that thought he was Nazi)
@SBernardoni1991 is was a confirmed mine because the germans who laid the mines said there wasnt any u-20's in the area and that they had just laid mines out
wow much faster then the titanic but still as sad

@joeylenseigne120 Really? They could rebuild something whose technology is over a hundred years old?
Of course they could "rebuild" it.
The question is why would they want to rebuild a coal-burning steamship designed for a a five-day trans-Atlantic passenger run in the 21st century?
It would be like rebuilding stagecoaches to transport people from New York to Los Angeles.
