It does make some sound during the dwell…i think it moving the fluid from the one bag to the heated bag ….eventually it stops, but it can go on for awhile
I just wanted to say thank you for doing this video. I'm a nursing student and it's good to be able to see what procedures look like from the patient's point of view. It looks like you've helped a lot of people. Good luck finding a kidney! =)
I don't use a mask, I don't use a povidone shield,
I don't clean the machine with bleach and I go swimming and take baths. I am into my second year of PD and no infections. I had a terrible time with pain and problems draining for the first couple months but it eased off and now I rarely have any discomfort. I have put on weight since you can absorb calories from the fluid unless you use the type of fluid meant for diabetics. That's a bit of a bummer and the machine hums all night long-ugh.
Hello, how is called the device that you use for connecting the tube to the bag?? i saw that you conect those parts pretty easy. I would like to ask for one of it!!!
@Juan2302 I don't know what that device is called, but I actually no longer use it since the connectors on the bags of fluid and the lines are different now, and you just attach them together by hand...Check with your kidney doctor or dialysis clinic if you need to use that device on your bags or not
@Juan2302 It's called a CXD. I'm currently use the same dialysis machine. My clinic has done away with using CXD and spike style bags in favor of the new "Lure" style connectors. Lure screws on to your catheter the same way a manual bag would
do you know where i could get a machin like this? is it called cycler dialysis machine? is so plz help me i need 1 for my grandpa if possible in spanish
@sangr3azt3ca In the USA the machine is provided through Dialysis clinics...have your granpa talk to his doctor about going on Peritoneal Dialysis if he is interested in using the Baxter Home Choice Peritoneal Dialysis Cycler Machine
@djgaryb11 oh but my grandpa doesn't lives in the united states and was just trying to find 1 on ebay and amozon but can;t :( tryin to see if i can get it cheaper cuz i think my parents said it cost 100,000.00 to get one
Thank you this is very informational. It is step by step. I have 2 make a decision about what type of dialysis. Does this type hurt? Do u feel blooded bcuz that's what I was told it feels like? Good Luck
@MsLupita1984 ...Peritoneal Dialysis does not hurt...there may be a little discomfort when your first start, but after a few times that goes away as your body gets used to having the fluid inside...The first few times i did feel a little bloated, but after a few times that went away, and normally I don't feel bloated from the Peritoneal Dialysis...Good Luck !
Hey listen, does your machine make noise all night long constantly or only when draining filling and then for a few minutes when it moves fluid over to the warm bag? The one I trained on at the hospital was completely silent between cycles but mine at home thrums all night long. Thanks, Karen.
I just think that is a great video demonstration being that I am a Baxter Driver that brings you your 28 days supply of peritoneal dialysis and your cassttes and everything you need..
I love my job.... getting to know patients and glad seeing them when I come through the door. Im out of Memphis,TN
Thanks for using Baxter, Service Specialist, Timothy-, GOOD LUCK Mr. Berman
Thank you for posting this. One of my best friends is about to start her PD. She is on the transplant list. But as you know it is a waiting game. Your video is VERY informative! I am not sure of the technical aspect of it. But I am thankful you posted this. Thank you. I will pray for your situtation as well. God speed on your kidney.
@calandur I felt better after about a week or 2 after I started on dialysis...once you are doing PD on a regular basis I don't notice any major changes from day to day
Your viewers might also be interested in the custom catheter support system for PD called the PD Security Band! Many patients say, "It's so comfortable, I forgot I had it on." It truly helps with the PD Patient's quality of life! Thanks for making this video!
This brought back memories, that irritating bleep noise, the huge amount of boxes delivered to the house. I live in the UK, and I used Baxter. Taking temperature was interesting, I was never told to do that. The face mask is a bit of a waste of time, as long as you don't cough or sneeze over the connections you should be fine, I never got an infection. Also you have no dressing over your exit site. What was that gizmo you used to do the connections? I've done both this and haemo. Great video.
Hey Gary, nice video about using Baxter's HomeChoice. I work at Baxter Healthcare in The Netherlands and I am a contact for people who use this machine over here. The reason I love my job is being in contact everyday with people like you and making sure they are getting their needed materials. Bye!
I got a notification from your blog today so I just watched it again! :) I first came across your video as you posted this link on the DaVita forums. I have a question about the toilet hook. Can you get one only via credit card or goes that site accept PayPal? Also isn't there a contamination risk with the open tube in the toilet (I know it doesn't touch anything with the hook but still I was wondering).
Thanks man this is awesome. I used to do this for a long time from the age of 13 - 18 well I did this for the first 4 then hemo the rest than I got a transplant. Good luck brother with it hope ur doing well!!
my mother is daily dialising by this cycler, you shouldn't place the drain line in the toilet because of bacteria and viruses.
and one more problem
why you don't use shields between patient line and your line comming from your stomach???? "baxter connection shield sysll with Providone-Iodine Solution. For isolation of the connection between solution container and solution transfer set. For use with transfer sets with twist connector"
This video shows the way that I was trained to use the Baxter cycler machine and do peritoneal dialysis. I was instructed that I could drain the used fluid into a toilet using the drain line. Other clinics ( and other countries...since I am in the USA, and it appears you are not) may have different procedures. I have never seen or been told to use a "Baxter Connection Shield System with Providone-Iodine".
@lyczewskiand the drain line has no direct connection to the peritoneal cavity. my mothers PD nurse has a patient who drilled a hole in his wall to drain it outside.
@lyczewskiand I'm 21 and I started Hemo Dialysis last July. I started CAPD in March and I was just trained for APD in August. It is okay to put the drain line in the toilet. Just don't submerge it in the water.
@lips858 thats a new procedure that they just recently implemented...and I also do that now also.....at the time this video was made, which was 2 years ago, that procedure was not part of the process yet.
Great video! Very well done! Thanks for making this! There are a lot of things people forget to include in a video once they get used to PD but you seem to have covered everything and in order! Thank you for that!
Thanks, mine makes a loud humming noise all night, might be on the way out!

I'm on pd dialysis and I use a different machine than baxter and it does hurt me. I have been on it for 2 years now and it still hurts.

I loved this video, it was so informative. I'm a former dialysis patiend myself.
I've always wondered how peritoneal dialyis worked, but I did know, it's a home
option. I see it's the same procedure as the hemo dialysis in a way, the taking
of temperature and blood pressure, the fluid, which in your case is in big bags.
It's similar, only you do everything yourself. I see that you have it down pat,
Nice video

you can put the drain line down the toilet tho,the tube is a one way system, nothing can go up that tube only out of it and that includes bacteria

@bitch29x Exactly. That's just the drain line. It doesn't do anything more or less. :)
