Note to Tesla; Ditch the cheesy music and let us hear the car! Really, the sound of the electric motor winding up is so enticing! Why hide it with cheap promo music?
This car will be cheaper to maintain but insurance companies will still find an excuse to raise the cost of insurance on electric vehicles. If you think about it its kinda sad how any step in the right direction will be halted by corporate greed or government regulations.
@morg92 I own a Dodge Sprinter and they raised my rates because they call it a "Commercial Vehicle." I use it to drive 6 miles to my business and home and maybe do some shopping. The whole Insurance Rackett is messed up! We are on our 2 Prius averaging 48-50mpg. Not bad.
the germans bought 10% of it, and already have better electric cars. the only difference is, their products stay in concept for longer.
(i mean just look at the numbers, before daimler came along they had trouble getting a 250m funding(initially a 75m were missing, nobody knows what daimler paid to get the knowledge). not that much money if you were a serious player in the global car market)
nope. no other car manufacturer has an electric car that even comes close to the 300 mile range on the tesla model S, nor the performance of the tesla roadster.
BMWs only pure electric, the i3 only gets 100 to 150 miles range. Daimlers only electric, the Smart ED only gets a 68 miles range. Both are slower in acceleration than the Tesla Model S and Roadster. So no, they dont already have better electric cars.

yeah tesla is my favorite car company pure zero emission company the only one i can recall also it says fuck detroit this is from california who says california has only dumb people california just came up with tesla best company fuck oil fuck all other companies tesla is the best for everything from us to the ozone and until the skies
It is amazing to consider that General Motors could have been the corporate force behind companies like Tesla and the technology that drives it into the public's consciousness. Had they pulled their collective heads out of their asses in 1970 (if not sooner!) they might not have ever taken such a gargantuan fall from prominence in the decades to follow.
Finally a eletric car that's bigger than the crappy Nissan leaf and more driving range then the leaf in a long shot. 0-60 in 5.6 and 300 mpg. That's a shock. I am a petrol head and laugh a rc eletric car. But this i will buy it if is around 40,000 I don't care if i have to finance one if possible.

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the bad thing about this company is that they lack originality. they dont have any designer and buy the body parts from lotus/and buy the battery from a japanese company. this company has a low chance of growth. not a worthy investment
Maybe you should do more research on Tesla. I think an all electric sedan that can drive 300 mi on a charge is very original! To allege they don't have a design team is ludicrous! Show me a car that's manufactured exclusively in the U.S., or any other country for that matter. American automakers have been building Japanese cars for decades, and Japanese companies are building cars right here in America. Tesla has a unique product in a unique market. That's why it will hopefully succeed!
Go find a video documentary online called "Who Killed the Electric Car." There used to be some electric GM cars called EV1, but the "owners" were not allowed to actually own the vehicles, but lease them instead. Then GM recalled and crushed most. But it's time electric cars come out now. The people are ready. Nissan is releasing the electric Leaf and even Chevy is in on the action with the Volt.
That is their goal with the introduction of the Model S. The next model will hopefully come in around $35K, if all goes according to plan. At $35K, they will be competing with a huge segment of both foreign and domestic auto makers, but without the need for gas! Look out Prius!
I want one. With Daimler Benz as a partner and Elon Musk at the helm, this is going to revolutionize the transportation business, and environmental issues and geopolitics. As we won't have to be in the Middle East fighting wars over oil. Iran, Iraq, Saudia Arabia and the rest will be worthless desert as it was pre-World War 1.
so the revolt begins. first the roadster for the high elete. then the sedan for the upper middle class. next? perhaps a smaller compact car? I hope the sedan takes off. but they'll need to market it right.
@gNayward you do realize that TIRES use oil, and ROADS use oil. so we can't escape oil, face it, you're gonna be f*cked one ay or another, but lengthening the date of our demise with eletric cars is a good thing :-D
@AbsolutMassager yea but doubt those release as much co2 into the atmosphere as burning gas, not nearly as much. And whos to say we won't find a substitute for oil in roads and tires, necessity precipitates change.
@RPShredow what's worse for the atmosphere is actually the car which are older and do not have proper filtering, many cars being driven in other countries also do'nt filter or burn oil properly. In fact the Mercedes S-class burns fuel better than the Toyota Prius. We just need to burn things off in a better way or recycle. And reason why we won't find substitute for roads/tires is because of the "masses" unless everyone in the world, walks, rides an animal, or drives an alternative car.....
@AbsolutMassager so your saying we won't find another way to make roads and tires without oil because people use them? that makes no sense. we may not find a different way to make them cause its not profitable unless someone can find a way to make it profitable. And even if every car burned fuel perfectlly, ie just co2 and h2o being the products co2 is the main problem causing global warming. its not hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide though those aren't good either.
@RPShredow But you do realize that plants need CO2 to survive and produce oxygen. And yes, there is NO way we can make roads and "drivability" without using fossil fuels to some extent. Think of anything that is combustable or needs "power"....it all requires fossil fuels to be either produced or to run. For instance even if we could replace tires we still need OIL to lubricate the gears in an engine, without OIL as a lubrication for gears the car will overheat and fragment the internals.
@AbsolutMassager Yes, plants do need co2, every 6th grader knows about photosynthesis. But we are pumping more co2 into the atmosphere than plants can even begin to use, on top of that all the deforestation that is going on, especially of the rainforest which is responsible for a large chunk of o2 turnover from co2.
And have you not heard of synthetic oil? They it isn't made from crude oil and is actually better for cars.
@RPShredow Even us as human need fossil fuels to survive unless every house had its own garden/farm which I doubt we can turn into the dark ages again.
It's not a clone; it's a look alike. The difference is under the hood, or not since the Model S doesn't have it's engine under the hood. haha It's what's on the inside that counts, the outside just makes it that much nicer. haha XD Very nice car.
if I could buy one of these in australia for $50k I would buy one for myself and the wife!! this car is hot, it has a lot of the same styling characteristics as the newish aston martons and jaguars.
Tesla Motors doesn't need bail out money. gm only got bail out money because they needed to save the factory jobs. Tesla Motors knows how to watch their financial structure and make decisions accordingly.
President Obama did put a smart person in charge of DOE. Tesla did get the DOE loan.
Now I ask. If peace on earth is near, starvation has ended, diseases are being attacked full force, what is left but the environment and the quality of life. There are still things to be worked on.
They've combined available and proven lithium ion battery technology with their own unique battery pack design to provide multiple layers of safety. It's light, durable, and recyclable!

What can I say? It's a gorgeous combination of a design which is like my favorite car brand (Aston Martin) with an electric engine in it..
I WANT ONE! :-D
Design, quiet, clean, max. torque over almost the entire RPM range, good range, very decent price.. I'll start saving *right now* :-D
Very nice video too, thanks! :-)

Not much of a first look if it's just a "Kenn Burns" effect done on a bunch of still photos.

if I could buy one of these in australia for $50k I would buy one for myself and the wife!! this car is hot, it has a lot of the same styling characteristics as the newish aston martons and jaguars.

I definitely agree. It looks a lot like a Jaguar Xf from the rear but with it's own distinct look

They should lend one of these to a rapper for a video shoot so it could sell.

Tesla Motors doesn't need bail out money. gm only got bail out money because they needed to save the factory jobs. Tesla Motors knows how to watch their financial structure and make decisions accordingly.
President Obama did put a smart person in charge of DOE. Tesla did get the DOE loan.

I agree with you on this. Tesla Motors should have gotten some grants. So they could build several factories in SoCal and hire a bunch of people.
That would have been a better solution. Help Tesla Motors hire those hard working former gm workers.
But they at lease got a DOE loan.

Now I ask. If peace on earth is near, starvation has ended, diseases are being attacked full force, what is left but the environment and the quality of life. There are still things to be worked on.

But things are getting better. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and its getting a lot closer.

i wonder what batteries are they using to get that 300 mile range? silver zinc? oxygen batteries? or some unheard of brand?
vindigga6 2 years ago
They've combined available and proven lithium ion battery technology with their own unique battery pack design to provide multiple layers of safety. It's light, durable, and recyclable!
ncgraphicboy 2 years ago
The 49k model isn't 300 miles in a charge, but it is still a lot. Around 150 or so I think, with the ability to possibly rent the larger battery.
