i want to see this movie, i'm REALLY curious about it, but i'm also worried that i won't be able to handle it. and i'm the kind of person that can watch horror movies(some of them) with no problem. but i saw a scene from this movie, the one where Francis finds Solitare's body, and i felt SO disgusted, it haunted me for the rest of the day. so IDK if i can handle this movie or not... if i may ask, what happens in the most disturbing scenes? maybe if i know ahead of time, i can be prepared for it

Yes, I agree with you. Felidae is a good movie but very dark and disturbing. Like when I first saw it here on youtube I couldn't even watched it on because it was so disturbed by it, but I do think it's a good movie though. Good animation, good music, and a very good storyline. I like it

Now that you mentioned the Aristocats. Francis, in the film, actually makes a joking remark of the Aristocats movie. As if subtly poking fun, at the audience, that this really is a mature film.
Thank you so very much for this review. I did a research on this movie after I heard about it, and thank the heavens I did. I was considering watching it because I'm a cat person. I was smart that I even stopped to think about it. xD Even though I'm an adult, I seriously doubt I'll be able to watch any of it. I looked it up on Wikipedia and got the shudders just from that.

1989 was the year the book was published. It is out of Print in America. The sex scene is still in the book, which the movie did very good job at telling it.
This is by far not a typical German animation. Too violent and too good animation. There are veeeery few German 'adult' animation films. Such films are normally imported.

I have no idea what your talking about, this movie was fantastic. And the way he did the voice acting made it seem perfect. The entire "Do you hear me you bastards?!" the way he said it seemed like he wasn't so sure of himself.
This was a pretty good movie. It didn't really repulse me much. When I was little I've seen bloody movies so I watched this as if I was watching an actual adult mystery. Plus after watching Fritz the cat and certain anime -coughhigurashicough- this didn't shock me much. I've seen worse.

And the voice acting was pretty darn good considering that the pool of voice over talent in the 90's was very limited. When you said that the music was good I thought that you were commenting on the semi-epic orchestral pieces, not that crappy song 'Felidae'. I was surprised that you didn't mention it. I saw this one disturbing anime show called Requiem from the darkness about a young man trying to write a ghost story and traveling with three spirits that help solve murders. And usually at the beginning of an episode,before the intro,you'd see the murder being committed in graphic detail,but the cause of it and who did is very ambiguous and theres always a twist ending in every episode.

I think the acceptable audience is 12 and beyond. Atleast then you're old enough to understand it, and won't be freaked out as if you're 5 and watching this.
We saw this movie the begining of this year (7th grade) english class alonge with watership down and plauge dog, one kid threw up during this movie... they had to send a permission slip out and everything XD l LOVED IT

I absolutely adore the movie. So much, I got the whole movie on my computer to watch when I'm bored. The story is very good, the characters well done, and the action. It's just awesome. The movie didn't disturb me one bit.
The book is actually creepier but totally worth the read!!
It is pretty much an alogory of the idea of making a "super race" and, to an extent, the corrupting violence of man.
I'd ask people not to put it down due to the violence, especially if you have not seen the whole movie or read the book upon which it is based, without considering the deeper message.
And remember, this was NOT made for kids. Its an adult artistic film and should be treated as such.

I don't love nor hate this movie..... well ... Iiked it. I am fond of cats and I was shocked of the deaths of this movie.... and .... I think is unrealistic (no cat attack devowel or decapitate another).... but like he said.... it was... damn.... gory.
I loved mostly the Sherlock Holmes atmosphere that was in the film.
But well..... at least the gore doesn't go beyond other gory films I saw like The Thing, Battle Royale, and Brain Dead.

If the movie is not meant for children, then the "gross-out" factor shouldn't be used against it, just as the violence in Plague Dogs shouldn't be counted against it. There are plenty more animated films with violence and sex ("Heavy Metal", anyone? How about a little "South Park: BLU"?) that surpass this one. "All Dogs Go To Heaven" is very mild compared to other films. (In "Secret of NIHM, another Don Bluth film, they actually curse. And that movie was MEANT for children.)

Actually I thought the movie was good- ONLY in the sense its a breath of fresh air from the monotonous 'goofy-singing-talking-animals' toons; and the fact the cats ACTUALLY DO cat things other than 'meow'. They mate (a brief scene) they scent mark, you know, real CAT things =3
But I agree, its very very VERY gory. Yet it goes to show what can be done with animation other than what we're used to in the United States. Btw GREAT review!

I saw the movie all the way to the end, it is SO GORY!!! But, i liked it, i'm sad about felicity. :(

They actually referenced The Aristocats at one point in Felidae. XD
I personally thought it was brilliant - the cats were truly catlike while keeping a dark plot. It's not that disturbing in my mind.

This film is an adults film rated 18 i think, but its really good i highly recomend to people with a stronger stomach.

I absolutely adore the movie. So much, I got the whole movie on my computer to watch when I'm bored. The story is very good, the characters well done, and the action. It's just awesome. The movie didn't disturb me one bit.

the first time I saw Felidae, I couldn't sleep for a whole week. now I'm alright with it, but sometimes it still creeps me out a bit -_-

The book is actually creepier but totally worth the read!!
It is pretty much an alogory of the idea of making a "super race" and, to an extent, the corrupting violence of man.
I'd ask people not to put it down due to the violence, especially if you have not seen the whole movie or read the book upon which it is based, without considering the deeper message.
And remember, this was NOT made for kids. Its an adult artistic film and should be treated as such.

I don't love nor hate this movie..... well ... Iiked it. I am fond of cats and I was shocked of the deaths of this movie.... and .... I think is unrealistic (no cat attack devowel or decapitate another).... but like he said.... it was... damn.... gory.
I loved mostly the Sherlock Holmes atmosphere that was in the film.
But well..... at least the gore doesn't go beyond other gory films I saw like The Thing, Battle Royale, and Brain Dead.

it's the scientific family name for cats, that's what Felidae means.
the gore is horrible, yes, but they explain why things go on they way they do.

If anyone wants to know what kind of gore this movie has, I'll give you an example.
In a murder scene, a pregnant cat is killed, her stomach was ripped open and her unborn babies are strewn on the floor.

If the movie is not meant for children, then the "gross-out" factor shouldn't be used against it, just as the violence in Plague Dogs shouldn't be counted against it. There are plenty more animated films with violence and sex ("Heavy Metal", anyone? How about a little "South Park: BLU"?) that surpass this one. "All Dogs Go To Heaven" is very mild compared to other films. (In "Secret of NIHM, another Don Bluth film, they actually curse. And that movie was MEANT for children.)

Cursing in SoN? As far as I remember there was one or two times when the actual word was too silently said and mistooken by many for a curseword. :p
But when it comes to cursing Felidae's english version is the Hulk Hogan of the ring. XD

Actually I thought the movie was good- ONLY in the sense its a breath of fresh air from the monotonous 'goofy-singing-talking-animals' toons; and the fact the cats ACTUALLY DO cat things other than 'meow'. They mate (a brief scene) they scent mark, you know, real CAT things =3
But I agree, its very very VERY gory. Yet it goes to show what can be done with animation other than what we're used to in the United States. Btw GREAT review!
