There are few thongs that make me cry in this world. This, band of brothers and my mom. I have an important decision soon, join the marines or go to college. My heart tells me marines and my brain tells me college. I don't know why its so hard to tell my mom and dad, and its sad how I'm even posting this in a comment. Maybe I'm just looking for advice or help. Great video, great series but people please don't forget the real men and women who fight for us everyday. Keep them in your prayers.
This mini-series was so important. Up until it's release, there was very little about this theater in the film industry. Over the past 20 years, almost all of the movies focused on Europe. It was about time that the veterans of the Pacific had a theatrical piece worthy of their fight. To my step father, USMC and veteran of Guadalcanal, New Caledonia, Saipan and Guam, thank you for everything that you have done for our country and I will miss you everyday of my life.
There's a lot of credit for the drawing, but I like to give credit to Hans Zimmer who is absolutely one of the best composers on the planet right now, who composed this music!
Loved your intro. When the series first showed I always made sure I was settled so I could watch the intro. Inspirational and the music behind is awesome. You contributed to a iconic, great and successful series.
I was inspired by the the music of Hans Zimmer, Geoff Zanelli & Blake Neely and used it for educational purposes for a Tribute video of my Dad's hero, a Marine who fought in the Pacific, Roy Auer, here on Youtube.
my civil ethics teacher's father was a WWII veteran who fought the japs like this men did, I never get to met him , he's dead since a few months ago, when this series began he refused to watched before dying!
@liamjordan2297 Yea, there's a series called "generation kill" it's not world war 2 but it follows an elite battalion in the USMC and their journey through afganhistan in 2003. It's relatively new, came out in 2008 I think.
@liamjordan2297 "Generation Kill" is a 7-part miniseries about the 2003 invasion of Iraq, I've only seen the 1st episode but it is really good.. it's like a modern day The Pacific/BoB :)
this has to be the best opening to ANYTHING on the face of the planet.
i am extremely determined to learn this on piano. i will play with as much intensity as i can in memory of those who have died protecting our freedom.
ANY Marine who served and learned about these great men such as Bassalone and Chesty Puller really appreciate this series...my personal favorite.. A great job by Tom Hanks. Just truley amazing!!! And Han Zimmers music just tops it off..I get the chills everytime!! God Bless all my Fellow Marines past and present, near and far!! Semper Fidelis!!!
did u guys notice hans zimmer in his music is trying to tell us to think about the people who fought and who died for america god bless america and canada wich im in sorry for my english
Did anyone else see the charcoal breaking off in big pieces and smaller pieces and kind of make the connection to the losses of the Marines from island to island? some islands we lost so many, some weren't as costly as others but still we lost brothers. Semper Fi
I see more and more comments about how this didn't stand up to BoB well it hadn't a chance to even compete, this was made 10 years later. More and more of our brothers passed away with their stories going with them
@wvufanngarner yes, the charcoal in my opinion symbolizes the history that is writen with a cost, and the red symbolizes where blood is spilled. Im glade to see that that their story is told and we may learn from their experience so we may learn for better, and god bless them
This didn't have anything on Band of Brothers sadly. I still REALLY enjoyed it but I think I expected too much out of it and felt a little let down :(
@MrScreamingeagles101 It makes me want to cry, yes, but it makes me want to be a better person too. Maybe change the world someday. Funny how much meaning music has in life.
The music is really great. But what I really love about this intro is the way it's done. I dunno who came up with intro like this, but I think he/she is awesome. The images and how it's drawn by coal that breaks is just awesome. :)
Truly beautiful. Especially at the very beginning where there were two beatings on a drum signifying the start of the theme, giving listners a dramatic feeling. The only bad thing about it is that it is short.
Watched the series through once and its very touching. the only series i've waited to the exact release so i can watch it. and now i'm watching it through out again and even now this theme and opening gives me chills.
the greatest intro i have ever seen but cannot believe this didnt win that emmy, so sad really thought it was a winner :( beautiful design with wonderful music.
fools for not giving you that emmy and losing to that 1 minute segment to bored to death >:I
great art work. really amazing. this is the best i have ever seen. simple & strong. i was surprised that soul and humanity were expressed only by charcoal and pencil.
fantastic work and i mean it absoloutly amazing without stuff like this it would have never inspired me to start creating or editing i hope that in my future i aspire to your levels of greatness. once again fantastic job a truely inspirational title sequence
Congrats on being nominated twice! Question, I was re-reading the Art of the Title article and you mentioned that you used a Casio high speed camera. Which part did you use the camera on, and how did you deal with the very low res footage (also, what speed)?
@jeremiahjw The casio stuff was replaced by Phantom footage in the final piece. But in this version, which is our animatic it's used in a few places. When the two lines make a cross, the swipe at the end before Tom Hanks credit. I think it was 300fps.
@stevefullertv Ooh, I forgot this was an animatic. The first slowmo shot looks great, the 2nd one, I can see the compression now that I know it was shot on the Casio. Still looks awesome!
Wow! This is the best man title I have ever seen. Amazing work! Hans zimmer did a great job on the music. But I have noticed that one of the composers is missing in this version ? Why that ? Good luck with the Emmy. You really deserve it!
Soundtrack is lifting, beautiful and inspiring. The filmwork and editing is genius. Looking forward to the award and applauding you and the team for all the hard work. Thanks.
Steve, I adore both versions, this and the broadcast. Each has brought tears to my eyes. Better than Band of Brothers and that was exceptional work. The broadcast version began with the sound of an old clock. (I recognized the sound because my grandparents owned a clock that made the identical sound.) Are you sending us a message with the chime of the clock?
@insouthchicago No hidden messages from us. Hans Zimmer did the music so you you'd have to ask him. We just got nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Design.
@stevefullertv The intro was composed beautifully. I can see why many drawings had to be cut as they probably wanted to convey that the pacific focuses on the 3 marines sledge, leckie and john. The best parts are how the charcoal medium excess blends into the explosions, and the closeup of the charcoal being sharpened symbolic of the weapons used in war.
What a BEAUTIFUL opening. The music mixed with the drawings which became real life is incredible. Not to mention the action shots. It all blended so perfectly, just amazing.
So you're the one who came up with the charcoal idea? Nicely done. I wish they kept they leckie face dissolve and the basilone charge in the credits. Very good work.
I listen to a ton of musical scores..a TON but I honestly think this one has to be among the greats. Very few scores hit you with the emotional impact that this one does.
I wonder why anyone would be nuts enough to cut any part out. This is just outstanding! Best intro of any movie or TV series or anything i've ever seen.
Excellent music, excellent drawings, excellent openings. I usually get bored by WWII movie opening titles, but this one I always sit through and enjoy.
The bass drum is important, as it is in sync several times with explosion visuals (the short strobe flash sequence), and gives the explosion audio. The creeping red stain is both the ever-present Japanese flag, and blood on the ground. As the music crescendos, we see Leckie running through explosions in what quite possibly is his finest hour, heroism and courage personified. As the music and explosions fade with the end of the war, so to, the memories and emotion of the artist.
The opening credits of The Pacific are fantastic, and evoked a very strong and clear interpretation of them to me.
I see the artist as an old Marineone who was in the Pacific war. The images we see are his memories, the bold, heavy strokes and breaking charcoal showing the depth and intensity of his memories and emotions as well as representing explosions and flying debris.
You did a wonderful job on the drawings. When I first saw the intro I was so amazed at how awesome it was. It adds something to the show that I think no other ww2 show really had. Thank you and great job!
Stupid question but did someone basically film you while you were drawing?
@MrChiefs84 I did the drawings, then we scanned them. Printed multiple copies of some of them. Then me and our editor filmed us drawing on top of some, and drawing long lines and shaded areas etc. It was meant to fool the viewer a bit.
There are few thongs that make me cry in this world. This, band of brothers and my mom. I have an important decision soon, join the marines or go to college. My heart tells me marines and my brain tells me college. I don't know why its so hard to tell my mom and dad, and its sad how I'm even posting this in a comment. I see the artist as an old Marineone who was in the Pacific war. The images we see are his memories, the bold, heavy strokes and breaking charcoal showing the depth and intensity of his memories and emotions as well as representing explosions and flying debris.

those drawings add a special significant into the movie for those watching the series and for those men that have been in a war.

Haha well you did fool me. But it was an amazing intro to a great series.

I hope we will get an extended directors cut Blu Ray this time. The series grew to short for me. A pity it had to end.

@stevefullertv
You did a wonderful job on the drawings. When I first saw the intro I was so amazed at how awesome it was. It adds something to the show that I think no other ww2 show really had. Thank you and great job!
Stupid question but did someone basically film you while you were drawing?
MrChiefs84 1 year ago
@MrChiefs84 I did the drawings, then we scanned them. Printed multiple copies of some of them. Then me and our editor filmed us drawing on top of some, and drawing long lines and shaded areas etc. It was meant to fool the viewer a bit.
